Grocery shock on the horizon for approaching U.S. elections as Iran war drags on
"It just pisses them off more," said Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, said in an interview when asked about how voters will react if food gets more expensive.

There's no way this can be turned around by the next president and improvement be felt by consumers in four years. Fish brain USA will forget where all of this came from and blame a likely sitting democrat (assuming we actually have elections in 2028) and run back to the "economically intelligent" republicans.

Idiots demand someone offer a quick solution to long term problem created by Republicans, Democrats start process to fix problem. Idiots yell the Democrats aren’t fast enough and put Republicans in power where they finish what Democrats started because it’s nearly done already then go back to f****** up or f*** up harder and make it worse. Idiots left scratching their head and declare both sides are equally bad.

Well said. It’s frustrating.

Heck, the full tariff supply chain issues *still* haven't hit.

They blamed Biden for inflation but conveniently forgot how lumber, car, home, building supplies etc prices went up during 2020. I could sell my 2 year old car for the same prices as I bought it. Lumber prices went up 50%.

Disagree. We could tax the f*** out of the billionaire class to pay for it and it would be quick and painless. And they’d still have billions left over.

That’s fine, financial crisis got Obama 8 years. Though I’m sure attention spans have gotten worse

Instead of a financial poll tax, maybe we should do an education educational poll tax and require people to do a two hour US history and civics course online for free and pass with 80% competency. Maybe every 4 years in January and February of presidential election years.

Tuberville thinks the 3 branches of government are president, house, and senate.

Yeah, and that's why the world should not make the mistake of trusting the US too soon, after Trump is gone... Americans have already blatantly demonstrated in 2024, that they are unable to learn from mistakes...

Typically, I would say you’re right. That is certainly what happened under Biden. But that was also coupled with his obvious senility, replacing him with a candidate who wasn’t popular in 2020 and had gained no ground in that regard as VP, and the fact that the problems set in motion by Trump only got worse during the Biden presidency. If the next candidate can at least manage to be seen repairing the damage, and they make real effort to hold the appropriate parties accountable (f****** prison sentences), then they might stand a chance.

> The war in Iran threatens to raise grocery bills in the U.S just months before a critical U.S. election. Threatens? It’s inevitable, rising gas prices ripples through the entire economy like an earthquake. The price of freight/shipping of groceries will increase, which will get passed onto the grocery retailers, which they will then pass onto the consumer.

Don't forget that fertilizer is made from hydrocarbons, too.

Earlier today I overheard a coworker complaining about the space launch because "we could use that money to help people live, eat. Hell lower gas prices" Things are bad if conservatives are suddenly for socialism

They only start talking like that when the problem affects them. Typical self-centeredness. Until that point it's everyone else that needs to work harder, and be better. Ironic really. Tough times are coming for everyone. Except the rich. Blue and red it won't matter.

F*** this, blame the corporations for infinite price gouging. I don’t give a shit about their profits, they shouldn’t be allowed to raise prices to cover their own expenses.

People are fixated on oil prices and forgetting about to arrive impact everywhere else as well (due to oil, and despite of it)

add to the shock on groceries is the fact that the west of the United States is going to have no water this year to irrigate crops much of the southeast is suffering from drought. There is the climate stuff it's just gonna drive everything higher.

USA has children slaughtered in schools every other week but grocery and gas prices make people care?

Gonzomi313 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Yes

stinkbuttsupreme Apr 2, 2026 +7
Grocery prices affect people in a direct, tangible way that reading about injustice and tragedies does not. If you live in the suburbs or in rural areas, you’re likely not seeing the awful things this administration is doing in person. Paying double for everyday grocery items has a lot more impact for a lot of people.

Food tends to be a high priority for people.

> USA has children slaughtered in schools every other week but grocery and gas prices make people care? If America shrugged its shoulders at Columbine, Sandy Hook, Uvalde, and countless other times its own children were slaughtered, it's definitely not going to give a shit about children slaughtered abroad.

Notice how Democrats are just phoning this in, hoping that Trump's failures alone will get Dems elected. They don't bother specifying how they will change things. Will they make things better? Sure, but we need big changes. And it just pisses me off that they don't feel they have to fight for our votes. It's lazy and entitled. I hate it.  Sorry, I just needed to whine.

Who knows what else will get torn up before we vote in any adults to fix things? It is going to take generations before we get back on track, and the Republicans will ratfuck every step of the way.
