Looks like they're kind of borrowing from Conan O'Brien's [Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legally_Prohibited_from_Being_Funny_on_Television_Tour) after he got screwed over by NBC/Jay Leno and got fired from The Tonight Show. Regardless, really looking forward to this and hoping it ends the series on a high note.

I’d be willing to bet he cameos

ZiggyPalffyLA Mar 23, 2026 +19
He might be dead in the show’s canon, either that or Jimmy Kimmel was making a deadpan joke

That tall, sad lesbian?

She's so amazing, I love her 😂

batatasta Mar 23, 2026 +103
did we already know this was gonna be the final season?? probably the right call, but still makes me sad.

Rytlock Mar 23, 2026 +89
Yes, we've known since the renewal was announced I believe.

monsieurxander Mar 23, 2026 +28
Even before that, Hannah Einbinder let it slip in an interview at last year's Emmys.
28
Mr-Nanny Mar 23, 2026 +24
They announced it last year. Gonna miss the show but I’d rather it end on top. Industry is doing the same thing.

EThorns Mar 23, 2026 +59
First Lady Martha Logan and President Allison Taylor finally cross paths. Jean Smart's gonna set the record of winning an Emmy every year she was eligible for Deborah Vance, isn't she?

Yenserl6099 Mar 23, 2026 +46
Julia Louis Dreyfus went 6 for 6 going into Veeps final season
46
tvqueen Mar 23, 2026 +7
I don't think she did? Phoebe Waller Bridge beat her one year.
7
Yenserl6099 Mar 23, 2026 +19
Yeah that was the final season. Veep ran for seven seasons and in the seventh season was when she finally lost to Phoebe Waller Bridge

nosayso Mar 23, 2026 +8
Pretty plausible, I think The Comeback is a rogue element there but otherwise the runway seems pretty clear, especially without Catherine O'Hara - if she had been a lead in S2 of The Studio, she beat Jean Smart at the Actor Awards but that was posthumous and also most of the time she was competing as Supporting and not Lead for The Studio.

Omg April 9th! So excited

Normal-Taro-1621 Mar 23, 2026 +9
Damn, that is surprisingly soon!

I think HBO has come to understand the hate for the massive waits between seasons and for popular easy to edit shows they are hammering them out. The Pitt had not even wrapped filming when this season started airing
7
Federico216 Mar 23, 2026 +4
I know it's not the same in terms of scope and amount of post production, but this show has lapped Severance, 3 Body Problem and Stranger Things twice, despite taking a year off themselves.
4
SmileyPiesUntilIDrop Mar 23, 2026 +4
And that is despite one of their seasons having to delay because of Jean Smart having minor health problems.

JimmyTheJimJimson Mar 23, 2026 +198
I wonder if the season starts off with the two of them being really close - something happens - then they hate each other, but become close again by the end of the season? Love this show but it follows this f****** trope every season

Chataboutgames Mar 23, 2026 +113
I mean, it's a show about two contentious, difficult, combative people working together while having very different priorities. The pattern seems pretty natural.

Also toxically codependent
43
ElGuitarist Mar 23, 2026 +29
That’s the narcissist loop: love bomb, keep, neglect, push away, Hoover, love bomb, etc etc. Main character’s mom is a covert narcissist, which makes her susceptible to Vance’s malignant narcissistic abuse. The show is pretty accurate with its depiction of a narcissistic relationship. Succession is the gold standard for displaying the many forms of narcissism in media.
29
GetHighWatchMovies Mar 23, 2026 +13
That arc happens every few episodes not just every season.
13
Mattyzooks Mar 23, 2026 +24
I'm pretty forgiving of seasonal formulas in comedies, so long as it provides a vehicle for humor. Your point is pretty valid though and the show itself plays up the dynamic between the two as a pillar of the show.

Never watched a sitcom before king?
48
m_Pony Mar 23, 2026 +10
they should watch some Three's Company. :)

Own_Citron6260 Mar 23, 2026 +18
Like 90 percent of the shows to exist??? Wow a successful show follows a trend. Will the Pitt season 3 be about a medical catastrophe??? Will the Bear be about fighting and fighting some more about the restaurant??? I wonder
18
Mr-Nanny Mar 23, 2026 +5
lol so true. The s3 ending was wild and made it seem like things were really gonna change and they’d despise each other. A few episodes later they’re getting lost together in the woods and reminiscing. Of course it’s a comedy so I just let it pass and enjoy the jokes. None of this is meant to be taken too seriously.

Old-Way-5529 Mar 23, 2026 +2
they are toxic, i think it would be out of place if they just became true best friends without ulterior motives driving their decisions.
2
ffordedor Mar 23, 2026 +1
I hate shows that have conflict and then the conflict gets resolved. It's just so repetitive

I had to stop at season 4 because of this. Just couldn’t take the fake drama anymore. Wish it went more positive like Shrinking does.

Calm_Memories Mar 23, 2026 -2
Same here. Though I think it was S3.

You forget the part where something in Ava's personal life goes wrong and begins to implode (again).

AnAussiebum Mar 23, 2026 +6
This is big for Katya, but it is also huge for Hacks.

I'm not ready to say goodbye 😭

Fun-Sea-7753 Mar 23, 2026 +17
This has been such a great show, their best season so far has been the latest one and if they stick the landing it will be one I revisit time and time again.

EpicHawkREDDIT Mar 23, 2026 +12
Love this show can’t wait to see how it all ends

So much talent in this show. Sad to see it go but can’t wait to binge it all again!

Square_Saltine Mar 23, 2026 +3
One of my favorite shows over the last couple years. Excited for this and while it sucks it’s ending it also feels right to do so before it overstays its welcome

I-Have-Mono Mar 23, 2026 +2
No need to watch this at this point, just ready to tune in!
2
The-Oxrib-and-Oyster Mar 23, 2026 +2
Ah bless I can't wait. Such a superb show.

RuneofBeginning Mar 23, 2026 +2
I don’t want this show to end!! I’d rather it go on a high note than crash and burn just to have another season after this.
2
LeapperFrog Mar 23, 2026 +1
Having a defined start and finish is why I think these shows are good, so Im not complaining at all. Every time I get a show with 3-4 real seasons I cheer haha

-FalseProfessor- Mar 23, 2026 +2
She has RISEN!!!!
2
turb0_encapsulator Mar 23, 2026 +3
It would have been funny if they reason Deborah Vance lost her show was because the network got bought out by a trust fund right-wing lunatic.

Giving Jean Smart her own showcase of a show is well.....smart Can't wait for the final season.

I bet there is yelling this season!

nimbuscloud9 Mar 23, 2026 +1
Well there goes Lisa Kudrow’s chance at finally getting an Emmy for The Comeback
1
SacralScenes Mar 23, 2026 +8
“Finally”? The Comeback released two seasons over 16 years. In the second season she was up against Julia Louis-Dreyfus in VEEP. There’s no finally here.

Let me get out my handy dandy chart of which AH now owns HBO…. Oh there it is HBO is owned by robber baron David Ellison. No thanks. this is a great show too bad it’s owned by Nazis. With luck no one will watch it and Ellison looses some money. Note to actors, producers….think carefully before associating with Sky Dance. There are millions of us who might have enjoyed your work in the past but will drop you instantly if you produce a show in Sky Dance.

How has this made to 5th season i am shocked i enjoyed first 2 season but than i lost interest.

TootieSummers Mar 23, 2026 +18
HBO Max must have lost the memo that you control all programming based on your tastes alone, I hope someone got fired for that blunder
18
tyedge Mar 23, 2026 +7
Honestly I was the opposite - lost interest, rediscovered it, and I thought it really grew beyond what it started as.
7
TrixieBastard Mar 23, 2026 +3
Same here. I struggled with s1 because everyone was so damn unlikeable. For some reason, I felt like giving it another go after I heard that s2 was done airing and something about it clcked for me the second time. I am so glad I gave it another chance, because it is one of my favorites now.
3
balasoori Mar 23, 2026 +1
Maybe i should try again
