Selfish cow. She knew she was at risk and American health authorities had asked her to self monitor and stay indoors in place but she took 4 flights . This is why we can't trust people to self quarantine. If this turns into a pandemic it will be because of selfish people like her

While I personally agree with you, I feel like if they did take the right measures and forcefully quarantined her and it made the national news, I'm not sure the average person would be okay with it. People tend to not think rationally, especially with all of the deportation stuff happening, forcing someone to do something probably wouldn't go over well.

In Europe we are quarantining them without issues, shouldn't be a problem for USA. This is just taking risks for the sake of it but I mean, your gov probs doesnt care if a few plebs die and they didnt particularly care for their fellow rich during covid either.

Yeah USA is literally detaining thousands of people against their will. Mandatory quarantine should be nothing.

Yeah, should really be a prison sentence if that's the case that she was told to quarantine or present herself to local health officials. Not sure if any laws directly cover it, maybe reckless endangerment?
Really showing the shitshow of how we're still not prepared for the next possible pandemic even if this hantavirus strain isn't likely to cause one because of its lower transmissibility.

There is a good % of people that still denies Covid, same crowd that says vaccines were chips or even say that the covid vaccine actually was the hantavirus hidden.
I don't understand how these people were educated in the same country as me.

The Hondius isn't a standard c**** holiday cruise. It's a polar expedition ship which is designed to take small groups to Antarctica. It isn't c****.

If I remember correctly, the cruise they were on runs 16-25k. That was not a poor person's cruise.

Holy shit the lack of awareness, do you think poor Americans are going on cruises? They're barely getting Christmas off these days dude

Uh yeah, that's pretty standard American culture in warm cities with ports. C**** cruises cost less per night than most hotels. Here's a 5 night Caribbean cruise for under $100/night: [Link](https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruises?itineraryPanel=FR05MIA-3040554279&country=USA&icid=myfs35_tctclp_myf_hm_hero_4624)
People who can't afford a plane ticket + resort just go for a cruise, that's where the "poor" reputation comes from.
Obviously that wasn't the case on this INSANELY expensive Antarctica cruise!

Yes I do. My poor friends are the group exclusively taking cruises. The ones that can afford actual vacations take those

There comes a certain level of wealth that circles back around to cruising as a main form of vacation. Ultra-luxury cruise lines like Silversea, Seabourn, Crystal exist to cater to these people.

For context, the costs of this cruise are like $10k-$36k per person.
[Oceanwide Expeditions - MV Hondius](https://oceanwide-expeditions.com/trips/dates-rates?ship=m-v-hondius&year=2028)
The average American spends about $2,000 for vacation.

Plus at the lower end of the costs, you're sharing a bunk bed in a room with strangers - something nobody would accept on a standard cruise.
I've been to Antarctica on the Hondius' smaller sister ship (the Plancius) and it isn't remotely comparable with a normal cruise. You pay a lot more and sacrifice a lot of comfort (a wonder if the relatively tight conditions help HV transmission) in order to spend more time off the ship on Antarctica or in a zodiac.

Your poor friends also fly on airplanes. The difference is, rich people have their own planes, or fly first class, and poor people wear several pairs of underwear to avoid the 40 dollar bag check charge on a d******* airline.

Wait what? Who is this person? Were they on the ship before? The article doesn't say. They flew from San Francisco, so they were leaving the US, not flying into it. But all the Americans which were on the ship are now in Nebraska, are they not?

A number of people left the boat before it was known to be hantavirus. There are some positives that were found already on their home country like the one in Switzerland.

I was thinking it was involved in Captain Cook's expedition, but he was never there; some of the current residents are descendants of sailors from a certain HMS Bounty.
