Funny how this guy seems to *come down with something* every time he appears in court. Last time he suddenly couldn’t walk and needed a walker.
What a coward.

The walker with the tennis balls on the legs was such a lawyer move. “Hmmm, just a walker doesn’t seem pathetic enough…hang on a minute…” and pops a fresh can of Princes. “There we go!”
96
Wasting_my_own_time1 day ago
+34
It gives it a small air of legitimacy to the theater production that is his court appearances. The tennis balls make you think: “Oh this person has used the walker long enough to develop an opinion on the noise the walker creates or maybe it’s because they use it so often that they must bang their toes on the legs so they put something there to soften the impact.” These things might trick some people into thinking he really is sick, handicapped, blind… or whatever he chooses to use to get out of the court appearance or trial this time.
34
HrhEverythingElse1 day ago
+70
The tennis balls are actually used to help the walker "glide" across the floor. It for people who are too weak to lift the stoppers off the ground between steps. So actually more pitiful than having an opinion on the noise or bumping toes

Its honestly hard to process how long this case has dragged on now.
For the victims every retrial probably means being pulled back into some of the worst moments of their lives again while the entire world debates it publicly all over again. Whatever people think legally, that has to be emotionally exhausting.

I honestly blame the prosecutors for this. They knew they were treading new territory by bringing the other bad acts evidence in and honestly they had an extremely solid case without it. They didn't need it to win and they only hurt the victims by asking to bring it in.

If it were just Weinstein in the picture, I'd say drag this shit on for years. Burn his cash, keep that mental strain of spending the rest of his life in jail just hovering. Keep his name in the news. Keep sharing the actions of this piece of shit. Run this guy's mental and physical health to the ground. His victims have to deal with the mental anguish from this pig, let him suffer too.

It’s telling how rich rapists and pedophiles can openly dodge justice for decades, while a student on a visa can have it revoked and thrown in ICE prison for a year in nightmare conditions.
Bluntly, if our justice system worked properly, Weinstein would be in ICE-like prison conditions right now.
Edit: I hope the.. distinctive .. poster below will be okay. I just don’t want to engage them.

People should remember that the world has changed a LOT in the last 20 years. As screwed up as society is in so many ways, 20 years ago people like HW and MJ had public reputations as "good guys" and the rumors about them weren't taken seriously. That information can be shared now, and sunlight shone on the dark corners of the world is one of the positive things to have come from the internet.
We thought Tom Cruise was normal because he had a good publicist. Only when he fired that person and hired his sister to manage him did the truth come out. You could get away with a lot back then. As an old person now it's amazing to see how fast we unmask the creeps in society and it's good thing.

You're describing revenge, not justice. I agree it needs reform badly but "eye for an eye" is not the path and hasn't been for a couple thousand years.
To reform our justice system though we need to first balance the scales of social power away from the heavy hands of the wealthy elite. This current system is, after all, their invention.

I agree that wishing the two tier system of justice be used as a blunt instrument against your enemies isn’t good, but given that the current administration and GOP openly cheer on doing just that, I don’t see how that would “make people oppose the left”.
Do you think people on the left call for targeting their political opponents with state violence more so than people on the right?

Could you address my criticism, instead of deflecting to a different point? You said this behavior would make people oppose the left. Why would people specifically leave the left for the right (which is what you do in a FPTP voting system) when the right is the largest purveyors of that kind of behavior?
I’m also not convinced that what you’re describing is a huge portion of the left, but we can all see what the current administration peddles in as far as rhetoric.

Go look at r/asktrumpsupporters
There’s a thread active right now about whether “illegals” should be treated humanely.
The overwhelming majority said they don’t care, because those people broke the law. They’re literally the ones saying people deserve this for crossing an imaginary line without permission.
Yet you bury your head in the sand and point outwardly.

I get where you're coming from now, but I don't think that's a reason people oppose the left. A majority of the opposition is pretty ok with ICE detention centers. The right wants more use of them and is advocating for less oversight over their use. The unaffiliated, if we count them as opposition, would support Democrats to minimize and potentially abolish their use if this was a priority.
Right, left, center, Democrat, Progressive, and Conservative all use hyperbolic language like this pretty often against perceived political enemies and ne'errdowells like pedophiles and rapists. I agree it's uncouth and flippant anout something that should be serious, but it's not really a leftwing thing. More of a human thing.
