It just dawned on me that I am one of the very few people is accessible to people whome I have not contacted since years. One of the fact is my contact number. It was bought by my grandfather in 2006 for years was the only phone in our family. I used to give it to my friends and relatives for contact. Later when he passed away ilit sort of become my contact number and I have been using it since then. Similarly, the very first phone in our whole family belonged to my uncle who later gave it to my grandmother and now my cousin (uncle's daughter uses it. It's like these have been in the family for 2 dacades while most people untill recent years changed contact numbers like clothes.
I’ve had my number since I went to college in 2003.

same, when i went to college in 08 my parents got me a flip phone and i've had that number ever since!
now, even though it's caused me problems having a number in an area code that's not the one i live in, i am too attached to it to give it up

I have the same situation, but I always looked at it as a positive. If it's an unknown number with the same area code as mine, I know it's spam, since I don't live or work in that area code anymore.

My original gmail from 20+ years ago is still active although it is such a junk/spam trap that I have started new business and personal gmails since then. But I still check it cause some people I've known a while still use the OG one
Hell, even my license plates on my daily driver are the same plates from when I first registered a car in my own name 11 years ago, and I'm gonna keep renewing the same reg/reusing the same plates as long as NY keeps letting me do it

We got our current cell phone numbers when we moved in 1999. Probably be the last numbers we have.
My folks lived in the main house I grew up in for over 40 years. When they moved I begged them to keep their same number by moving it to a cell phone but they didn't want to confuse people in their new state with a totally different area code. There were literal generations of friends and family that all knew that number. From a time when everyone still memorized them. But nope. About 2 years later my Mom said she wished she'd listened to me. /sigh
When we got our now adult kids their cell phones it struck me that unless the move out of the country they will likely be the only numbers they ever have. Very few reasons to ever change now.

My parents have had their same phone number for at least my whole life (I’m 57), and likely since they got married in 1966. I think when they first got it, it was just 4 or 5 digits. The two-digit “exchange” (I think that’s what it was called?) became mandatory around 1980, and the three-digit area code requirement is more recent. Does that count?

More info on [telephone exchanges](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephone_exchange_names).
I got curious and looked up info about it because (as you mentioned) my grandparents had the same number from 1962 until my grandmother’s passing in 2023, and it started as two letters + 5 numbers.
Hilariously, my great-grandparents on the other side had a lumberyard in the 1920s where the phone number was **10**.
Couldn’t you just have picked the phone and gone “hey, Edna, it’s Jack at the lumberyard. Connect me to ____”, I figure?

I've had the same home phone since 1994, and the same cell phone number since 1998.
I'm glad I don't have my grandparents old number. It was a 3 way shared party line. On Sundays, you only got a call out in an emergency.

In Australia we introduced Phone Number Portability in 2001... and I had already had my number since 1993... so I have been contactable at the same place for 33 years.

I've had the same mobile number since 2001. I've changed phone companies quite a few times, I just port my number to the new account

I had one number from 1998/1999 til 2007. At that time, I was switching to AT&T from Cingular and since the company was being bought out from AT&T, I couldn't port the number. I've had this number since 2007. If I had been able to port that number, I'd have had the same one since 98/99.

Have one of the few original area code phone numbers in my old state. It’s bee passed down at least 2 family members before me and it will continue remaining in my family regardless of where we move(within the states).

I've had thw same number since 2002. It has a few repeating numbers and people always comment how easy it is.
I'd never remember a new number now. Lol

I have had the same home phone number since 1979, although these days its connected to my fax machine because everybody texts me on my cell (same number for well over c 20 years) instead and the only people who call that number are scammers.

We've had the same house phone number for 37 years. We've changed towns. It used to be a lane line. Now it's a VOIP number. There's no bill and the quality is better than the cell.

My sister still has the number she first got in 6th grade, which was... 2003? My number is younger, but still old, from ~2009.

Yep maybe 2005? It carried it through carriers. Alltel which became Verizon and where it's at now - Google Fi.
I can't get rid of the number. My grandmother had me on her contract. She passed in 2021.

69m. Three phone numbers in my life, when I was a kid, when I was an adult, and a cell phone.

I owned a bag phone in 1993. I still have the same number today (obvs I’ve gone thru all the various cell phones since then). Fun fact, my husband at the time also got his girlfriend a phone for the same Xmas present and her number was one different from mine! 😂

I’ve had the same number since 2004! My first phone was the RAZR, and it was fantastic! I’ve saved contacts from high school, college and everything in between. I’ve moved a few times, but I’ve been in the same city for about 8 years now and I got a Google Voice number with a local area code instead of changing my number because I don’t want to lose it.

I can beat all of you. When I decided to get rid of my landline, I transferred that number to my cellphone. It is the same number my parents got when they got married in 1941.

Had my number since I was at Uni 30 years ago - had multiple phones but always kept the number. Not quite sure why you wouldn't keep it unless actively trying to ghost someone.

I've had the same number since I got a mobile phone, so about 23/24 years ago now I think? The account was in my mother's name at first, and I still occasionally get emails and stuff from the provider with her name instead of mine, despite moving the account over to my name when I started paying for it myself (about 7/8 years after getting it)

I've had my phone number for 15 years. I remember how it was new to be able to keep my number when I replaced my phone. My mom still has her 40 year old landline number. Calls get forwarded to her cell phone that she's had for about 20 years

I think I got mine in the early 00s and it's been transferred between multiple networks and sim cards. When I found the card for it as a PAYG option I grabbed it as it was an easy number to remember.
My email address, however. I've had that for at least a quarter of a century.

Two decades?? Amateur hour! My mom has had the same phone number since the late 1970s lol. Obviously it's not a cell phone. For context, I used to take up that phone line with a 28kbps modem playing Warcraft 2 over kali in the late 90's, in the very early days of internet gaming, when few people even knew it was possible...She still has it.
