Has anyone here tried meditation before? I wanna get into it.

Been wanting to try meditation for a while now, but i've always put it aside, there's so many forms of meditation if anyone has a form that works for them i'd love to talk about it.

How long have you been meditating for?

Do it for 5 or 10 mins to start

I practiced mindfulness for a while, still do just not in a fixed position. People think I’m crazy because I don’t work out with headphones but really I’m just meditating between sets

I’ve tried it a bit and honestly music helps a lot, especially starting out. Just something calm in the background makes it easier to focus instead of sitting in total silence. I found even a few minutes at a time is enough, you don’t have to go all-in right away.

Many Buddhist temples offer meditation classes usually for free (though you should leave a donation). There's nothing religious about them. Here's a link that can help you find the closest to your area. https://www.buddhanet.info/wbd/ Good luck!

Yes! I try to do a loving-kindness meditation daily, it’s supposed to help raise your baseline happiness levels 🙂 (your brain doesn’t adapt to its positive effects as quickly as it adapts to other rewards like food, money, etc haha)

Meditation helps you step back and notice your thoughts instead of getting caught up in them which makes your emotions feel more manageable. Over time, you become kinder to yourself, and it brings a sense of calm and peace. If your starting out, just try 5-10 minutes a day. Sit somewhere quiet, focus on your breathing, and don't worry if your mind wanders, just gently bring it back to the beautiful place you want to be at.

Do you recommend a form or a video?

It really works for me, I’ve got the Apple fitness app, I download either 5 or 10 mins meditations, and sit in my car and do it. It’s helps calm me so much. Highly recommend

Try all of the given forms, then choose the one that put you in to meditative state easiest/soonest.

For me, what’s worked best is isolating myself a bit and finding somewhere peaceful to reset (cutting out distractions helps me settle in and focus better) One thing that can help is sensory blocking/ reducing sensory input a bit. Things like ear plugs, a sleep mask, or finding a quiet, dim space can make it easier because your brain isn’t constantly reacting to sound and light. That way you can focus more on your breathing, your body, or just sitting still without getting pulled around by distractions. I try to do this before I sleep, it’s like the best sleep… it really helps me decompress and recharge.

Disregard many of these recommendations, and try to keep a daily routine of at least 10 minutes where you keep your mind focused on your breath, any part of it; the stomach rising and falling, or the feeling of the air in the nostrils, or the noise of breathing. Also, make sure you belly-breathe, so diaphragmatically, not chest. As your practice lengthens in duration, you'll self-develop into whatever interests you.
