The body does have an internal clock. Interestingly, there's a study indicating that people operate on a 25 hour cycle. Participants were put in a facility with no windows, and couldn't go outside. They would naturally wake up 1 hour later each day.

I get on weird cycles of if I wake up at 6:17 one morning then for the next month I wake up at 6:17. Then my body chooses a different time, rinse and repeat.

I usually sleep about 6 to 7 hours on the clock. I've woken up literally just a few minutes before the alarm went off (sometimes within 1 minute). It's pretty comical.
Definitely is convenient though.

EVERY. DAMN. DAY. My alarm is set for 4:45am and I always wake up between 4:35 and 4:40. My wife appreciates not hearing my obnoxious alarm, but I sure would like that extra 5-10mins of sleep. Sigh…

You know, I tried that wake-up trick once—eyes closed, willing myself up at 6 AM sharp. Nailed it for weeks, smug as can be. Then one morning, I pop awake, fist-pump the air... right into my nightstand. Lamp crashes, wife yells, "Tom, it's 3 AM!" Twist? My body clock was set to the dog's pee schedule, not mine. Now I let Snoopy call the shots!

Aww I had a Beagle named Snoopy. She was the best damn dog. She didn't wake me up to pee at an ungodly hour, but she did call the shots. I miss my Snoopy. Hope yours is doing well!

Ì usually wake up about five minutes before my alarm is set. Sometimes more, sometimes less (today it was two minutes, yesterday it was ten.)
And on days when my alarm isn't set, I wake up at roughly the same time.

Yeah it does. I hate when I wake up like 20min before my alarm. A few times I forgot to set my alarm and didn’t wake up but my dogs woke me up. I usually get up and feed them at 6am. And if I’m even a few minutes late they are waking me up

I think it's the poop cycle more than anything. I usually eat around 6. It takes 12 hours to digest food. Brain gets a single that it's time to poop so it wakes you up.

Yeah and it always freaks me out a little when it happens. I’ll wake up, check my phone, and it’s like 2 minutes before the alarm like my brain set a silent timer or something.
It seems to happen more when I actually care about waking up on time though. If it’s something important, my brain’s suddenly very responsible. If it’s not… I’m sleeping straight through everything lol.

I stopped using an alarm years ago, I had to be at work at 5:30am, didn't want to wake the spouse, took a month, that was 30 years ago, I still wake up at 4:30, but I get to go back to sleep.

Always. Sometimes I hate it. I cant nap either, it makes me feel kind of crappy. I always wake up at 6/630. Good thing im a morning person lol I get some quiet time before everyone else is up. And its helped already being like this once I had a kid.
It is odd though like if I have to wake up extra early and set up an earlier alarm, I STILL wake up about 20 mins before. I just get up. I hate alarm sounds and I think part of it is the anxiety of hearing that alarm soon.

I only get up before the alarm if I have had enough sleep
Which is great when it happens

I haven't used an alarm for years. Even if it's a rare day when I have light work & crash during the day, if I have to be somewhere I'll get up.

Yep, when I was working and had an alarm (disabled now), I'd always wake up about five minutes before my alarm went off. Mostly because I hated the sound of my alarm. The only time I didn't is if I was late going to sleep. Like if I read a book the night before or something.
