So the message Hegseth is sending is Breaking rules is ok if him or Trump like it. So disobeying orders and regulation is now acceptable?

It's wild how blatantly the rules are being applied based on political favoritism. This sets a terrible precedent that undermines military discipline and accountability. They're basically admitting that waste and abuse only matter when it's convenient for their agenda. The hypocrisy here is just staggering.

I am surprised there was an investigation at all, I'm not at all surprised by this. You could hardly debase America more than it has been in the second Trump administration.  I was never particularly patriotic but I really thought we were better than this. I don't know why, I guess I must have still bought into the propoganda.  At the very least we do still live in a nation, for now where I can call Kegsbreath and the pedophile in chief mean names without being imprisoned or executed, but I suspect America would be repulsed by finding how how truly on the edge of that not being true we are.  It may not happen, but it is far from a guaruntee anymore.  Do you believe your MAGA neighbor would care if you were imprisoned for sedition against the president? I don't.  Sure my mom is who is Maga, I'm sure *she* would care if it were *me*.  But broadly. Would they?  How far do you think they are away from acting like people did in countless other largely forgotten cleansing?  Do you feel confident, given the rhetoric and behavior coming from the right, that many of them would not butcher you next week ?
