*“A chaplain is first and foremost a chaplain and an officer second. This change is a visual representation of that fact, specifically unique to the role of a chaplain. They are first and foremost called and ordained by God,” Hegseth said."* This seems like an absurd and petty ask as chaplains do both tasks at the same time. With the war in Iran ongoing, 165 Iranian children in a school killed, and threats to global energy, economy, and food production, why is this a priority?

Hegseth is a religious zealot and his spiritual advisors are crazier than he is.

Because our government is being overrun by the kind of people who see the Handmaid's Tale as a blueprint. It starts being more easy to figure out what's going on when you stop assuming they should be acting rationally, and instead ask yourself what a far right religious extremist would want.

So doesnt a chaplain have to obey his superiors, if his rank is secondary?

But this is the point here, isn’t it? This type of symbology has an air of Leni Riefenstahl and “Triumph of the Will” all over it. This is a logical progression of Hegseth’s ideology and methodology.

My guess is he wants to use images of them for recruiting, and more prominent religious symbology would lend authority and look like "endoresement from God" for Holy War against the Islamic world.

I think you're onto something, and I wouldn't be surprised if he deployed them to protect some dude that looks like David Koresh.

>“be seen among the highest ranks because of their divine calling” So military chaplains are not displaying rank anymore...because the chaplain insignia is the rank, now?

And the first step to having the troops look to the chaplain first, and their own officers second. ~~Political~~ Religious Commissars, here we come.

They’re already in a seperate chain of command, doesn’t seem necessary to hide their rank. Doesn’t seem like a very consequential change on its own though, but knowing Hegseth this is just step 1 of some weird religious indoctrination plan.

With only WW2 movies to go by. I always thought that chaplains were just chaplains and didn't have an actual rank in the military. That they were just embedded with a group like the way war correspondents are. Well whatever. Who cares about this though?

This could be used for many positions. “A dentist is first and foremost a dentist and an officer second.”

And idiot is also first and foremost an idiot, and the head of Department of Defense second.

Yeah, I also wish that our f****** guy in charge of war wasn’t Jewish pretending to be Catholic so as to convince a large population of American citizens to go and give up their lives for a stupid ass f****** forever war.

I’m not anti-somatic by any means but I’m anti anything that gets Americans killed over some stupid ass unimportant back-and-forth 2000 a year war between two groups who will never ever get along and you should not be next to each other goddamn

Ah yes, Leni Riefenstahl and “Triumph of the Will” coming to the 21st century.
