Hi r/movies. I'm Lou Taylor Pucci, here to answer your questions. I've starred in films & series including: EVIL DEAD, THUMBSUCKER, PHYSICAL, CARRIERS, SOUTHLAND TALES, FAST FOOD NATION, SPRING, A.X.L, EX-HUSBANDS, THE CHUMSCRUBBER, and more. You may also recognize me as Benji from Season 1 of YOU and the Green Day music video JESUS OF SUBURBIA. AMA! My new movie, TOUCH ME, is out in select theaters starting March 20 in NYC via Yellow Veil Pictures, with limited release starting on March 27 and then On Demand/Digital on April 7. It's written and directed by Addison Heimann. **Synopsis**: >A wacky, wild, sensual homage to Japanese exploitation films, Touch Me tells the story of two cringe millennials, Joey and Craig, who do everything in their power to do absolutely nothing. Of course they have capital T childhood trauma, but so does everyone, so like, judge them however you like. Seriously, JUDGE THEM. One regular day, Joey’s super hot alien ex, Brian, comes back into town begging for her to forgive him and come back to his desert mansion for the weekend. With nothing better to do (and also a pretty unfortunate sewer explosion in Craig’s house), the two trepidatiously accept. Also the fact that Brian’s slimy sexual tentacle appendage removes anxiety and depression maybe helps solidify their decision. But at the house, under Brian’s veneer of healing is a sinister plot filled with murder, mayhem, and blood. Then again, maybe they can all get along in the most glorious throuple you’ve ever seen. Touch Me, is a psychosexual horror-comedy with 100% old-school practical effects, about the nature of co-dependent friendships and how far we are willing to go for a slice of happiness. Cast: Olivia Taylor Dudley, Lou Taylor Pucci, Jordan Gavaris, Marlene Forte, Paget Brewster **Here's our trailer:** [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjWDJScsSuY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjWDJScsSuY) **More:** [https://www.touchmemovie.com/](https://www.touchmemovie.com/) Back later today at 5 PM ET to answer your questions. Ask me anything!

Hey Lou! I’ve really enjoyed your turn as a character actor. Two things: 1. Do you consider yourself a scream king? 2. Did you learn anything from working with Paul Newman?
5
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +6
1. i feel l;ike alot of people are becoming Scream Kings right now because Horror films are both so inexpensive to make and have the potential to make large amounts. Thats why so many horror movies are made now it seems. I loved Horror since i was a kid watching Creepshow and Creepshow 2. So im happy to be called a Scream King. Ive certainly died in movies enough to warrant the title 2. I wouldnt say i learned anything necessarily. But HBO had so much money then that they woukld send me home on Empire Falls but them immediately call me back to Maine. So eventually I told my dad to tell production i was away on a camping trip when i got home again only to be called back immediately. My dad said he couldnt get in touch w me which gave me time at home w my fam. Thern they called back after a couple days and said "Paul Newman will be flying back to Maine on his private jet. if you happen to find Lou, he could ride with him from NJ. So i got to get on Pauls private jet with him. we mostly talked about farming while he read his farming magazine and we ate Newman-Os, his version of oreos. when we took off, he went up to the cockpit and got in a push up position so when the plane took off he looked like superman taking off. So i guess i learned that he was a big kid even at like 70.

Hey! Thanks for stopping by! Southland Tales is one of my favorite scifi movies of all time and I love the arc your character takes and the peace he seems to find at the end. At the same time, it’s just f****** cool that you’re shooting a rocket launcher at a MegaZeppelin from the roof of a levitating truck. Any neat stories or takeaways from making the film? Was it bonkers being on that set or was it pretty chill? And what do you think of the film now? Thanks again for doing this! Can’t wait to watch Southland Tales again!

I think richard Kelly is kind of a genius in his own way. or maybe ahead of his time. I LOVE that movie now - and if it came out now, i think it would have made alot more money. i saw it at a screening in NY at BAM and the theater was packed which made me happy. I thought Richard knew when he was making it that he was making a B-SciFi cult classic, but it seems he and his producers didnt think itd bomb in the box office they put alot of $$ into it. The only reason i got to shoot down the megazepplin was an added reshoot when they got extra money to throw into it. so for them it was very sad when it wasnt well received. But i think Richards view of a Fascist america was quite precient and worth a new viewing if you all have time

Hey man! Loved you in Evil Dead, the eye scene still makes my limbic system flip out; but my favorite film of yours I’ve seen is Spring with Benson and Moorhead. Given the shoestrings they tend to work under, how did the lack of a larger budget affect the day to day filming? Cause it came together beautifully.
5
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +4
Aaron and Justin are incredible directors. perfect team mates. working on Spring was only possible with such a tight budget because of two things. One, Aaron did almost all the VFX himself because hes a genius. And two, Justin n Aaron set it up so that Nadia and I could have two weeks of rehearsal before filming. so in italy, we rehearsed every scene in the actual locations in italy that we would eventually film. that gave us time to figure out blocking with aaron who was also the cinematographer ahead of time. It made the shoot go so fast because we already knew where we would be standing or sitting or walking in every scene before we shot. amazingly smart strategy.

Hey Lou! I’m a big fan of your work! I have several questions for you :) 1. Besides horror and indies, what other genre of films do you see yourself doing in the future/want to do more of? And what type of roles would you like to take on with all your years of experience? Any directors you would like to collaborate with? 2. What was the most memorable on-set experience you had with your Evil Dead castmates? 3. Besides work, what is a personal goal that you have for yourself that you’d like to achieve? 4. Lastly, random question but how hard was it to wash out the fake blood out of your hair and beard in Evil Dead? I LOVED your look in Evil Dead! It’s so iconic. Super stoked to see Touch Me soon! :D

LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
Thanks! Ive always wanted to play a character like Lestat from Interview with a Vampire. I love the Neil Jordan film. I also played alot of Zelda growing up, so i wish i could play Link someday. big long shots but i love those characters 2Evil Dead, we took an Easter Vacation to a little beach town during rehearsals because everyone was off for Easter weekend. we partied and got to know each other which really help\[ed with filming. usually you dont get that time 4I would fall asleep in a director chair on set and wake up with my beard and long hair attached to my shoulder by the fake blood. they would have to spritz me with spray bottles of water to get my face unattached to my shoulder. hahahah

ProjectGlass2236 Mar 26, 2026 +5
Spring is my favorite film and the first one I wanted to show my girlfriend when we started. Your acting is so honest and real in those sad and then crazy circumstances. No question, just want to congratulate you and hope you keep having a good and interesting career.
5
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +4
Thanks ProjectGlass2236!! i love that movie.

Hey Lou, everyone is praising your horror work so I'll just add you were fantastic in Physical. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened on set (any set) you remember?
3
Grand_Rent_2513 Mar 26, 2026 +3
Hey, I haven’t seen anyone ask about this yet, but how was it like being in the music video for “Jesus of Suburbia” by Green Day.
3
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +4
apparently a motorcycle guy came into my agents office and slapped a binder down on his desk with a picture of me on the cover and it said GreenDay. I had no idea they meant for me to be the main charcater. Sam Bayer, the dir, brought me to his office and showed me a doc on Greenday and said "I want you to play an amalgamation of all of the group" I just said, as long as you can figure out how to give me messed up teeth, ill do it, cuz i just looked too "all american boy" with my blond hair n straight teeth. he said they could make it happen. then he asked if I knew a girl who would be a good WhatHerName. I said do you want someone wild or someone innocent? he said wild. so i said Kelli Garner. She worked with me on Thumsucker and shes just a person like me who is willing tyo go to the extreme for a character.

Lou rules! Met him at a con in Texas once along with Chris Marquette and they joked and told stories about their time on Fanboys (one of my favorite movies). Both of them were incredibly nice and friendly. But my question for Lou is: You have a lot of movies in your filmography that break the mold of conventional films. What draws you personally to things like Touch Me, Evil Dead, Thumbsucker, Southland Tales, etc?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
to be honest, I was never a big indi film watcher growing up. i was into the big spectacle movies. but in my career, ive learned that alot of actors are afraid of taking roles that are unconventional. when there is no blueprint for the role, many actors pass instead of risking looking dumb. Me on the other hand, ive never had a problem making an ass out of myself. So i think its my general courage to take roles that are "weird" that has let me get so many. And I love this career. BStaying as anonymous as i have, not being a household name necessarily, has made the workj ive done stronger because so many people go in and have no idea who is playing the role. i also work from the outside in, so i figure out what the character looks like first, and try to change into them so that when i look in the mirror, i believe that im another person. more fun that way
3
Practical-Vampirism Mar 26, 2026 +2
How is the vibe or working environment shooting scenes with practical effects and the grosser side of genre films, fake blood and all that? Is it a challenge due to the physical discomfort and added complication, is it fun and rewarding? How much does it depend on the director?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
Its always rewarding as a result of using practical effects. I will die on that sword. Because its tangible and gross for the audience. so even tho it is usually torture for us, (and i bleed real blood on every set or i dont consider myself trying hard enough), i love. it and would always pick practical over CGI or god forbid AI
3
TheCharliQuinn Mar 26, 2026 +2
Hi Lou, my question is when did you realize the first initials of the characters names in Evil Dead (2013), David, Eric, Mia, Olivia, and Natalie, spell the word DEMON?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
yes!!! and did you know that my name in American Horror Story, Jonas Shevoure is an acronym for Jason Vorhese?
3
HotHalo_ Mar 26, 2026 +2
What’s a genre you haven’t explored yet but would love to?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
supernatural - i love stroies that have a grounding in ancient religions. Like The Omen or even the MothMan prophesies. I think its a scarier version of the horror genre and it always makes me full on scared watching those types of films. But Id love to get into more sciFi like outerspace stuff
2
SomeGuyYouDonNo Mar 26, 2026 +2
At the end of 'Evil Dead', why did you include Bruce Campbell? Was there a planned sequel? Or hope for one? Is it just a little nod?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
they had so many plans for sequels. But when Ash VS the Evil Dead came out, they sort of scrapped the sequel idea for the tv show idea. im happy they have now started making movies like Evil Dead Rise, and Im sure Bruce and Jane will end up in one soon
2
SomeGuyYouDonNo Mar 26, 2026 +1
I hope so, man. Thanks for replying. My wife loves that Evil Dead a lot.

mlee117379 Mar 26, 2026 +2
What’s a big movie or TV franchise you’d like to have a role in? Also what kind of music do you listen to?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +4
Im weird with music. My dad was a musician alll my life so all i grew up with was 80s rock and now thats almost the only thing i listen to. im also kind of a 'silent in the car' type when im by myself. i just dont usually need a soundtrack to my life. dont know why, just ended up this way. i would love to be in a True Detective type of series. Season One is the best show that was ever on TV and i rewatch it often

Ok-Substance5101 Mar 26, 2026 +3
who’s got funnier jokes on set - Benson or Moorhead? which of those two would win in a no-holds barred fist fight?
3
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
hahahahahahahaha. great question. They basically are one person when telling a joke - and it always seems like theyre in on it together. so basically unanswerable. Justin probably would win in a fistfight cuz Aaron is so non-violent and wholesome of a human being that he would probably just be innocently asking Justin the whole time why Justin was hitting him. But i wouldnt wanna see Aaron truly mad either, so TOSS UP
3
Ok-Substance5101 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Excellent, thanks for the thorough reply!

Lost-Active3056 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Across films like Thumsucker, Evil Dead, and now Touch Me, you’ve taken on very different psychological spaces how do you mentally enter and exit those worlds without carrying them with you?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +1
Glen Moreshower taught me this one. talk to your body outloud before a shoot. say "Body, mind, Im gonna become a different person for a while. I dont want you to think thats who I am now, I want you to remember who you are after this when you go home. And i apologize for the torture i might put you through, but just remember when we're finished, thats not you. "

ama-about-ye-ukraine Mar 26, 2026 +2
The first thing I remember seeing you in is The Answer Man, where most of your scenes would have been with Jeff Daniels and Kat Dennings. In the director's commentary, he said you were filling in for someone who dropped out at the last minute. Do you want to talk about how you ended up getting that part?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
Crazy story. I had auditioned for that film and didnt get it. i loved the script. One day im at home in NJ in my childhood room waking up on my literal bunkbed when my mother comes in and says i have a call from my manager. Bob tells me that if i drive to Philidelphia right now and audition in person the next day for the dircetor, i could get the part, because two people had to fall ouyt of filming for scheduling conflicts. Paul Dano, and then Joe Anderson because of a Visa issue. I drive right then to Phili, dyed my hair black the next morning and did an audition for the director the next day. Next thing ya know i was talking to jeff Daniels and making a movie
3
miasmomUWS Mar 26, 2026 +2
Hello! I absolutely loved your work in Physical. It was fascinating to see how your character maintained his internal core values through a series of external choices (wardrobe, hair, and, ultimately, acting) in a time and place that was shown to be changing so rapidly. Did anyone/anything inspire you in creating him?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
Spicoli - i just didnt want to be that extreme, but i knew i was laying a really innocent, loving, less cartoonish, and slightly less dumb version of Spicoli from Fast Times.
3
moonraker400 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Big fan of your eclectic filmography, especially Thumbsucker and Southland Tales. Any memory from making Southland Tales that you can share?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
The first script I got didnt have time travel. or Two Sean william scotts. The third one did. Nobody knew what was goin on, but they all trusted Richard because of his success with Donnie Darko. They got the Rock and Sara Michelle Gellar in that movie, and literally all of us because of DDarko

moonraker400 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Interesting! Thanks Lou, keep up the good work

hi. i was wondering for evil dead what are thoughts on the lastest movies that happen? do you like them? and how was it like working with keanu and tilda on thumbsucker?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
Keanu was such a sweet guy. but before i met him, i left an action figure of Neo on his doorstep at the condos we were staying at in Oregon. because the second Matrix hadnt come out yet. i meant it as a stupid joke, i was 17. I didnt hear anything.then the Producer wason the phone 2 days later and he had a sour look on his face. i asked him whats wrong and he said Keanu might not wanna do the movie because he doesnt feel safe because he thinks his neighbor is stalking him. he said the neighbor put an action figure on his doorstep. i was like "dude, it was me" i had to Call Keanu right then and explain that it was me. He was like "Dude. I was standing at my door with a shotgun thinking it was my neighbor." thats how i met Keanu. over the phone saying sorry. oops. Tilda is the smartest person Ive ever met in my life creatively. Shes a true Alien. I like the new evil deads. i still kinda think ours is the best one that was made, but i enjoy the new ones. they gotta stick to practical effects tho or theyd be doomed
2
midnight_rhcp Mar 26, 2026 +1
thank you so much for answering me. so sweet. that's a cool story about keanu lol. i do agree your evil dead was so awesome. its one of my top favorite horror film remakes.

Hi Lou!! I'm a big fan of your work. My question is if you had to watch the same movie on repeat for the rest of your life, what would it be? :))
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
oof. Maybe big Lebowski. Batteries Not Included?
3
ImperfectRegulator Mar 26, 2026 +2
Hi Lou! I actually saw the film at Sundance, saw a few rows in front of you at touch me. (I had the green Slytherin scarf) Loved it then, can’t wait to take all my friends to see it. Anyways question time. Given all the horror movies youve been in. What’s the wildest scene youve filmed?
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
Thanks for seeing TOUCH ME! It might have honestly been the dancing scenes in Touch Me because I had to be so perfect cuz we only had about 4 takes and only one angle. so Addison told me if we couldnt get a good take, it just wouldnt be in the movie. pressure
2
iluvjyb Mar 26, 2026 +2
I think your character in Evil Dead has some very iconic moments in the film. *"Oh my god, why the f*** did you do that?!"* is one of my favourite lines. Is there anything about that character, Eric, that you got to come up with yourself? Part of his style, personality, etc? I'm looking forward to watching Touch Me.
2
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +3
When I start laughing in the scene after i get shot with nails in the arm and crowbarred in the hand, it was a real thing that happened on set. I started cracking up because Natalie was laying in the arms of Shilo and she was saying "My Face Hurts" and something in me cracked and i started laughing so hard i couldnt stop. So Fede asked if we could try one where i started laughing like that and it stayed in the film!
3
ThatDudeBSmith Mar 26, 2026 +2
First of all, why are you so stupidly handsome? I mean geez. Do you prefer the short hair or long hair look?  Serious-ish question(s): I never got the chance to ask when I met you (during Morgan’s bachelor weekend in NYC)…. What’s your method for choosing roles?  -Also, do you believe that challenging roles brings out your best work or perfecting the wheelhouse is the best way?  -Can cast chemistry help aid you in your performance or is that a myth?

best pizza topping is pepperoni or mushrooms, worst is sardines or black olives

Hello! I want to start off by saying thank you for being open to an AMA! I have a few questions for you! 1. Who were some of your role models growing up? 2. What is some advice you would give someone following in your footsteps? 3. What does a typical "workday" look like? 4. What's a movie you'd recommend?
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
role models would be Gary Oldman, Steve Buscemi, Vincent D'Onofrio 2i wish i had advice. this industry has changed so much and will still be changing so much so fast that people literally cant follow in my same footsteps. advice:Only do it if you truly believe you couldnt live without doing it, cuz its truly a hard life when you arent able to act because of the industry changing. 3watch my instgrams - i just put up a few videos of prep for TOUCH ME!

Hey Lou! Why did you think it was OK to read from the Naturom Demonto?
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +5
I asked Fede the same thing. I also asked him why even if i am a history teacher, i would have brought a Latin dictionary to the cabin. hahahahhah. some things are just necessary holes so we can enjoy a Candarian Demon

makingoutwithsatan Mar 26, 2026 +1
Hi, Lou! I was wondering what most catches your eye when reading a good script?
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
Dialogue, when its simple and concise, not too over-explanatory.
2
Jazzlike_Winner642 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Now that you're becoming an 'old' hand at appearing in horror movies would you ever want to write or direct one?
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
yes 100%. i think ive gotten to the point i really need to at least make a short film to start this process of getting on the other side of the screen
2
yayayathecreator Mar 26, 2026 +1
dude just wanted to say you're legendary in southland tales, absolutely love that movie. how was the vibe filming for that movie? any fun stories on that set? it's such a wild movie

NeitherPercentage868 Mar 26, 2026 +1
What was it like filming that crazy sex scene in You season 1 🫣
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
hahhahahhahha. I felt bad. It was still right before the time that intimacy coordinators were on set, so i had to be overly protective over my costars body and make sure not to offend her in any way physically. i always get so scared doing sex scenes.
2
HerHymn Mar 26, 2026 +1
What was it like being in green days jesus of suburbia video? And how was the makeup/getup process and did you like the look or totally want it off after getting done?

Hey Lou! I once saw a meme on Instagram that said Fede Alvarez modeled himself after Eric for Evil Dead, is that true? lol
1
LouTaylorPucciAMA Mar 26, 2026 +2
I dont know, I actually posted that meme too. where he looks just like Eric. I think that all directors do hire people who are a version of themselves to be main characters, so that tracks. but i think it may have been subconscious

Hi Lou! Been a big fan of yours for a long time and Thumbsucker and The Chumbscrubber were definitely some of my introductions to indie films as a teenager. Do you think there would have been much difference to the film, had Elliott Smith lived to complete the soundtrack for Thumbsucker?
