I think part of the issue with Trump is that he is undiagnosed with autism. 30 years ago it was rare for kids to get tested and so a lot of us today masked until we were diagnosed. So 80 years ago I can’t imagine anyone getting that diagnosis. The way he just says shit and talks in ultimatums is very neurodivergent coded.
So let me be clear, in no way am I saying that excuses anything he has ever done or said. I think this just explains it for me why whenever he just says things like this it doesn’t really mean anything to him or those around him. Of course what he says now as President shifts the world back and forth through catastrophe after catastrophe. I’m sure he also has mental health issues as well that were left untreated.
I guess what I’m saying is viewing him through that lens helps me process why he is the way he is. Of course add in lifetime wealth and privilege, shit parents, and always being told he’s right added a lot too.

well watch out for internalized ableism/self hatred then - I got a little defensive because of my own autism. all of those things are symptoms of various disorders/conditions, but autism isn't one of them
lying for the purpose of furthering your own agenda/enriching yourself because you both know what lies to tell and are so confident that you won't face consequences for lying would be hard to explain in the context of someone having trouble navigating social interactions
