I really love documentary types of horror movies or good zombie movies and I am looking for some that have good scare and plot. I tried some recommendations I found on tiktok and all I felt was disappointed.
Here are some of the films that I love and I am looking for movies that have the same vibes as these:
\- As Above, So below
\- World War Z
\- Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
\- Taking of Deborah Logan
\- Blair With Project (2016)
\- Hell House LLC
\- Incantation
\- Insidious 1
Thank you in advance!
Diary of the Dead is a decent Romero zombie film. Not the greatest but I thought it was worth a watch.
Have you seen the 1999 Blair Witch Project?

I just actually added the Diary of the Dead on my list! Also, yes I have watched the 1999 blair witch but I find the plot a little too slow and only a few scares. I still loved it tho but not as much as the 2016 movie.

I'm a big fan of the Fulci gates of Hell trilogy, all of those have at least one zombie. Not very documentary style, just early 80s Italian surrealism. Fulci's Zombi 2 is an amazing film that involves a shark vs zombie battle and an infamous eye scene. The title is referencing Dawn of the Dead, which was released as Zombi in Italy.
Edit: Romero's Dawn of the Dead is WAY better than Snyder's though Snyder's is far from bad.

Land of the Dead
If you liked Insidious, you’d probably like The Conjuring and The Grudge (2004)

Thanks! I'll add that to my list. As per conjuring, I only liked Conjuring 1 and 2 and the rest are meh for me. Also, I remember watching the grudge but I do not remember how it goes so I will definitely rewatch that one.

I recommend “Fresh Hell.” (2021). Microbudget found footage, 100% Rotten Tomatoes. On Tubi, as well as Prime. Disclosure: I made it.

I really want to watch Rec (2007) but it is not available on any streaming apps I have😭. I have heard good things about that and I cant wait to find a website that has that.
I also have watched train to busan and yeah it is a good movie as well. Im still looking for one zombie movie that can top world war z though (for me only)

“The Host” (2006) is a great monster film, if that’s interesting to you?

I’ve see a couple of the dead movies already recommended, but might be interesting to see the one that started it all, night of the living dead. Thought it held up very well, although there isn’t a ton of scares by modern standards, I thought it was super interesting to see the origins of where basically all zombie films from today come from. Just a thought.
Edit: [Criterion version in 1080p is on YouTube!](https://youtu.be/J7Yvhe5fKmM)

Ooooh that's also interesting. Just like on 28 days later where it showed where the virus started. Thank you for giving the link as well! I will definitely watch that later on.

Not exactly a horror movie but Herzog's Aguirre the Wrath of God has a very chilling, nightmarish feel. Herzog's background in documentary really comes through.

I'll recommend the Psychological Body-Horror assassin film **Possessor: Uncut** --from Brandon Cronenberg.

The Ring
The Birds (Hitchcock)

Hereditary
It seems like you enjoy slow realization of the horror and a chance to beat it but not guaranteed success
