Euh, it’s called the Strait of Hormuz (تنگهٔ هرمز), not the straight. And it isn’t even (straight: bit of a curve actually).
Sorry really not trying to be “sassy” but I cannot believe how many people (mostly Americans) cannot get this simple English word correct of quite a vital geographical element of this war.
For me, English is not my native language, how hard can it be?

The casualty from this quagmire will be nich high than what the public are used to. The truth is US air defense and precision strike munition has been depleted while Iran's missle and drone capability are still very much intact. This will expose the ground troop to hostility that US military has not seen since WW2.
This is going to very bad but there is no other way out of this. The deployment of ground troop is the only way for US to hopefully gain the upperhand. At the end of this, it will be 200k-250k deployment, thats going to be the bare minimum against a country the size of iran. The 50-60k currently in the region is no where near enough to make any meaningful change.
There is no solution out of this. Its a bad decision followed by worse execution, thats where are now, and it will be awhile before things turn for the better.

The big difference between this shit show and the Iraq war(s) is that we had a place to stage for literally months before the invasions. Saddam was too afraid of international backlash to attack our buildup in Saudi Arabia so we were able to put 450,000 combat troops with a full logistical train in place. Iran is only accessible except for a direct sea assault and isn't equipped with a bunch of soviet era junk.

The thing that Trump is really good at is making bad decisions and then compounding them to further aggravate whatever mess he fixated on to begin with. So the potential for a vicious cycle of nightmare proportions is lurking just over the horizon here.
This is nothing to be toyed with and it's time for Republicans to get serious, join the Democrats, and put a stop to the insanity.

Democrats need to make a lot more noise about this illegal war. But I am not hopeful we will get the robust, full throated response we need because we have never gotten one yet from Democrats on any of the countless outrages the Nazis have committed.
We may have to actually get off our own lazy asses and do it ourselves…No Kings was a good start, let’s keep up the resistance. Find something constructive to participate, or better yet, help organize one!

I am not blaming Democrats for Republican crimes. I am blaming Democrats for failing to forcefully respond in an organized way that makes the public aware of what is happening and mobilizes citizens in defense of the Constitution.
Democrats are individually making responses or showing up at one-off events, but this is not going to cut it. The Nazis are disciplined, on message, organized and well funded. You don‘t counter that with off-the-cuff comments in the Capital hallway. And that is mostly what what we are getting.

No sir, thank you for making your position quite clear.
It has been made clear to me I do not get to disagree… and yet I do, on a couple of your points, while on others we are in complete agreement.
We will see how your military fares. So far, not all is going according to plan, if there was a plan, according to the OSINT sources I follow. As I said, time will tell, you can prove you were right in a month (shouldn’t take any longer should it?)
I have been lucky to have travelled in Iran (and Cuba, Russia, China, but never the USA.) So this may colour my perspective a little. The people of Iran were more hospitable and friendly than any other I personally have met anywhere else. I do not make light of this war unleashed by ungodly forces upon such a beautiful country.
But on the internets, I do admit to succumbing to some sarcasm and sassy behaviour. For which I do apologise. We are probably more on “the same side” than opposed, if you allow me the simplification.
Why haven’t they? Despite the monumental damage the world economy and America’s standing in the region have taken??

Ah great, so your gas has become cheaper then? Wait and see my friend.
Last time Persia was invaded: by the Mongols (under Genghis Khan and successors), 1219 to 1258 (by your calendar; I will adapt as a sign of civility)
Genghis Khan’s forces invaded the Khwarazmian Empire (which controlled much of Persia) in retaliation for the massacre of Mongol envoys and merchants. Cities like Bukhara, Samarkand, Nishapur, and Herat were devastated, with massive loss of life. Later campaigns under Hulagu Khan captured Baghdad (1258), ending the Abbasid Caliphate, and established the Ilkhanate (a Mongol successor state) in Persia. The invasions caused widespread destruction but were followed by cultural revival under Ilkhanid rule
So… the USA didn’t even exist yet.
Persia was never permanently erased as a cultural or political entity. Native Iranian dynasties (like the Parthians and Sasanians) often reasserted power after foreign rule weakened, and Persian language, administration, and identity frequently influenced or absorbed the conquerors (a phenomenon called “Persianization”). In more modern times (post-16th century), Persia/Iran faced pressures from empires like the Ottomans, Russians, and British, but these were typically wars, influence, or occupations rather than total conquest of the core Iranian heartland.

Beg to differ mate. There were boots on the ground in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq. None of those were a resounding success. None of those compare to Iran in size or military strength. The USA will win all the battles and lose the war.
But don’t take my word for it 🤗 Time will tell.

Afghanistan’s goal was to get Bin Laden and dismantle Al Qaeda. He escaped within months, so your war-hungry government shifted the goalposts to removing the Taliban, building a democracy, and training their military. Who’s in power today? The Taliban. Also, Bin Laden was eventually found in Pakistan, not even during your ground invasion, a decade later, in a completely different country. Lmao.
Your country literally invaded Iraq to get rid of WMDs that didn't exist. You removed Saddam, sure, but then created the power vacuum that became ISIS. So I guess killing hundreds of thousands of Middle Eastern people, burning through trillions of dollars, losing thousands of your own soldiers, and radicalizing entire generations who now hate your country counts as winning?
3
paranormal_penguinMar 30, 2026
+3
Man, your pro-military bias is really showing hard in this comment. Not a single educated human being thinks the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were necessary or successful. We occupied Afghanistan for over 20 years because we didn't want it to fall in the hands of theocratic terrorists, then Trump pulled out leaving bases full of equipment for the Taliban to take back control of the country.
There is no rational, logical way to spin anything we did there as a success. We gained nothing and lost thousands of American lives, not to mention the horrible atrocities committed against the people of those countries.
I get you're clearly a h******* fan of the U.S. military, but capability and strategy are completely different things. The U.S. military is plenty capable, but the people wielding that hammer have no f****** clue what they're doing with it.
