I mean kind of but not really. It was a unanimous vote called while only 5 people were present which worked because of the specifics of senate rules (in theory you need a quorum with a simple majority of members to bring a unanimous consent vote, but the senate rules only actually care about this if somebody calls out that there isn’t a quorum) the parties were in on it (otherwise people would notice other senators are staying late and not let them be alone to do something like this) but the “unanimous” vote was actually a way to keep the actual vote off record.

Johnson sucks so much; if he brought the bill to the floor, House Dems would largely support it to the point it would probably pass with the 2/3 majority needed. They could at least try to pass it.

He actually thinks that this is a Trojan Horse because Dems voted for it.
Instead, he just gave the news cycle another week of "Republicans refuse to vote on funding TSA" and brother, when the lines for Easter travel hit the news on Wednesday he's gonna wish he was home watching his son not watch p*** the most he ever has in his life.

I disagree, he doesn’t think this is a poison pill. He knows that Trump has already promised not to sign anything until the Enslave America Act is passed. So if the House passes it, then it goes to Donald and requires him to veto it, otherwise it becomes law. The makes Dear Leader look bad.
Johnson’s being an obsequious little toad protecting the toddler from the consequences of his temper tantrum by trying to strangle it in the House.
8
ep29Mar 27, 2026
+12
See, I thought about this too, but here's why I think it's a total own goal.
It's because Johnson isn't good at politics. If he ***was*** (and I know this because as I thought of it I immediately thought "This is exactly what McConnell would do in the Senate") he would let it go to a vote, whip enough "No" votes for it to fail, and then get on the podium and blame Thune and the Senate Dems for pushing a bill that "Doesn't solve America's problems." That's what a real congresscritter ghoul would do.
The fact that he didn't and blamed Chuck Schumer on a unanimous vote just proves again that Johnson is nothing more than an impotent ball of rage who isn't capable of understanding the levers of power he has his hands on.
He doesn't seem to grasp that he can manufacture the same result with better optics for his own party or even himself (which, let's be real, this is a good thing).

Republicans instead plan to propose an eight-week bill to fund the entire department, including back pay for TSA workers
**TL;DR:** The Senate passed a bill overnight to fund most of DHS through the end of the fiscal year, covering everything except ICE and Border Patrol (TSA, Coast Guard, FEMA included). House GOP leaders immediately rejected it because it left out immigration enforcement funding. Speaker Johnson said the House will instead pursue an 8-week stopgap that funds all of DHS, including back pay for TSA workers.
Problem: senators have already left for a 2-week Easter recess, so nothing is getting resolved quickly. Meanwhile, TSA agents have been going unpaid since DHS funding lapsed on February 14th, causing widespread call-outs, long airport lines, and some workers quitting entirely. Trump separately said he'd sign an executive order directing DHS Secretary Mullin to pay TSA workers as an emergency measure.
The underlying fight: Democrats blocked ICE/Border Patrol funding after two U.S. citizens died in confrontations with immigration agents in Minnesota. Senate Republicans plan to try funding enforcement separately via budget reconciliation, which only requires a simple majority and cuts Democrats out of the process entirely.

This is so stupid. The senate bill allowed the Democrats to honestly say they didn't include more money for ICE, while allowing the Republicans to add more money for ICE through other channels. It was a win-win scenario. Sure, it was a net loss for American taxpayers, because we're funding fascists, but Republicans got what they wanted and Democrats got to honestly say they stuck to their principles. Why wasn't that good enough for the House?

You're likely right. But I feel like that's a harder sell when there is a unanimous vote in the Senate and then as the party in charge don't even bring it to a floor vote. This just comes off as monumentally inept.

Many republican districts run uncontested. Dems have to live, work and campaign in rural areas. This is the result of my entire life just being told to relocate to a blue city. Blue cities get outnumbered by seas of red districts if people stop trying to fix what’s wrong and just run away.

My prediction is that Trump is going to unilaterally appropriate funds from somewhere, no one is going to stop him (certainly not the courts), and this issue is basically going to end Congress's power of the purse. Hope I'm wrong but I guess we'll see.

Another week, another 40 day shutdown. It’s peak unserious government when they’d rather keep the DHS deadlock alive for campaign clips than actually pay the TSA and Border Patrol agents working for free.
We're sitting here with 4 hour airport lines and zero stability while the House GOP tanks the only deal that actually had a shot in the Senate. It’s all performative chaos at this point, and the rest of us are just stuck paying for the drama with our own sanity. Same circus, different Tuesday.

One person's opinion, but I think this is another case of Mike Johnson taking a bullet to keep Trump from having to take a position (sign it or veto it) on a popular bill that he doesn't like.

I have a feeling the vote, if come to floor, would have passed with veto proof majority. I have a feeling that Trump told Johnson that HE will be the one to give TSA the money through EO to make himself look good. However, I think it will backfire since if that happens, many will, instead of thanking him would resent him more since they will think they could have been paid long ago but he just held them hostage.

GOP just got baited so hard lmao. They just took full ownership of the shutdown they never even wanted.
I shouldn't credit the democrats too much here though. The GOP created this opportunity all on their own. They begged democrats to fund DHS and framed the entire thing as being harmful to TSA and therefore airport security.
Now the GOP is openly blackmailing TSA funding until their thugs get paid. Well played, stable geniuses.

The overwhelming sentiment among the majority of white voters across all three elections: 'The fact that you think we care is truly comical. The cages, the deportations, and the violence are what we voted for. So brace yourselves. Because there are three plus more years of the beatings, and we are just getting started.'
Among those who voted, the majority of white men and white women voted for a racist, fascist, sexist, war-mongering kid rapist and kid killer in 2016, 2020, and 2024. *It was never about the price of eggs or gas.*

Everybody knows that it gets much worse with every single hour that passes. The MAGAts are all such little-d*** cowards that they won't end this madness, and they are the only ones that can. Every hour that passes also makes the crash that much worse when it inevitably happens. They still don't act. They would rather sit and get more and more nervous than admit they were wrong.

I genuinely don’t understand how the government works, it’s so confusing to me.
Can trump sign an executive order to pay TSA? If so, why didn’t he do that weeks ago?
Also didn’t the senate unanimously vote last night to find DHS (minus ice and border patrol)? Unanimously, that’s seems massive to me, so why wouldn’t the house vote on it?
I know I’m trying to find sense in administration that is nonsensical , but still.
