DHS Shutdown Continues After House Rejects Senate Deal, Passes Separate Funding Bill
The standoff over funding the Department of Homeland Security continues after the House and Senate passed competing measures. President Trump announced DHS would pay TSA workers, but it's unclear how that will work and Congress left town for a two-week recess without a resolution.

Just to be clear... this passed unanimously in the Senate. The bill did not restrict ICE, but also did not fund them, and funded the rest of DHS - in other words, a compromise. For House republicans to refuse to even vote on it is a perfect example of just how extreme and ridiculous they all are. Vote them out!

Can’t wait for the ny times op-ed saying this is happening because both sides can’t come to a deal. How much more clear can it be that TSA agents are not being paid ONLY because the GOP does not give a single f*** about them and are using them as political pawns?

How could Obama do this to us

It’s all that dijon mustard to blame.

PersimmonWorried2155 Mar 27, 2026 +5
Keeping those airport lines long is surely pay off in November.

hoffsta Mar 27, 2026 +4
Also worth noting ICE is already fully funded through 2029. This does not negatively affect them. It’s also not a “win” for Democrats. They gain nothing in regard to ICE reforms they were demanding. This I purely to deny the optics of a symbolic Democrat win. That it.

Hastert rule. I’m sure plenty of house republicans were in favor, but they follow the rule that anything to get advanced has to have the majority of the party in support. So stupid.
3
Sad_Locksmith_2904 Mar 27, 2026 +6
I thought the Hastert rule was “be a pedophile” which tbf they do follow

rvretiredlife Mar 27, 2026 +3
Say it again. Vote these Republicans out of office. I can't believe they did this.

NPVinny Mar 27, 2026 +2
I mean, it passed unanimously in the Senate because it was voted on by 5 Senators in the dead of night and because of quirky rules regarding the assumption of quorum.

Proper-District8608 Mar 27, 2026 +1
The order came from above I imagine

Ok_Shoe_1094 Mar 27, 2026 +53

good news, all of them are up for reelection in 8 months! surely voters will hold them all accountable.. right?

AlexZivojinovich Mar 27, 2026 +6
Get rid of Fetterman in the Senate too.
6
aagaash2001 Mar 27, 2026 +6
Unfortunately not until 2028. I can't wait to say "Senator Malcolm Kenyatta" by then.
6
Aggressive-Will-4500 Mar 27, 2026 +3
He's not up for re-election until 2028.
3
BUYMEBONESTOORM Mar 27, 2026
If dems get both house and senate they could impeach him
0
JoanOfSnark_2 Mar 27, 2026 +1
They would need a 2/3 majority vote. Not going to happen.
1
Aggressive-Will-4500 Mar 28, 2026 +1
The impeachment part, triggers the trial, only requires a simple majority. It's the conviction part in the Senate that requires 2/3 majority vote.
1
JoanOfSnark_2 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Right, but you can't get rid of him without a 2/3 majority vote, which is what the comment was specifically about.
1
Aggressive-Will-4500 Mar 28, 2026 +1
They can use the impeachment hearing to publicly air all his dirty, corrupted, and treasonous laundry.
1
pizzapromise Mar 27, 2026 +24
Seriously, at this point how could anyone vote Republican?
24
Made_Human_Music Mar 27, 2026 +18
Only stupid and evil people vote for Republicans
18
tinyhedge Mar 27, 2026 +6
exactly this
6
Aggressive-Will-4500 Mar 27, 2026 +4
A lot of Republicans would vote in a moldy ham sandwich if it pretended to hate the same people that they hate.
4
Garys_Synthesizer Mar 27, 2026 +3
Meanwhile id vote in a moldy ham sandwich because a non sentient sandwich would cause less damage

AlternativeRun5727 Mar 27, 2026 +1
They have no shame, I doubt even non-MAGATs have any regrets. Repugnant base

All airlines should cancel any preferential treatment of House members just like Delta did: [https://www.kbtx.com/2026/03/24/delta-suspends-travel-perks-members-congress-partial-shutdown-continues/](https://www.kbtx.com/2026/03/24/delta-suspends-travel-perks-members-congress-partial-shutdown-continues/)
26
TheSwampTramp Mar 27, 2026 +13
Delta (and all the airlines) could do more than cancel free perks and issue statements. They need to band together and refuse to fly until they can perform safely with full staff.
13
mlorusso4 Mar 27, 2026 +2
The flight attendant and pilots unions have already threatened to ground the planes because they refuse to fly if passengers aren’t properly screened

monkeywithgun Mar 27, 2026 +11
Time to clean House! Vote any Republican up for re-election out in November.
11
Prizehart Mar 27, 2026 +27
And the circus continues. We’re over 40 days into a shutdown, TSA and Border Patrol are working for free, and the House GOP just tanked the one deal that actually had a shot at passing the Senate.
27
kia75 Mar 27, 2026 +15
Since the Senate is on a 2 week recess, this means that the shutdown can't be resolved for at least 2 weeks.
15
IScreamPiano Mar 27, 2026 +6
Not necessarily, Johnson could tell the Freedom Caucus to deal with it, because he should have enough support from Dems to pass it without them (I believe they need a 2/3s vote to pass it this way).
6
Moccus Mar 27, 2026 +3
They don't need a 2/3 vote to pass it.
3
gdex86 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Yes but trump still needs to sign it which is a c*** shoot leaning to no. 2/3rd support means it doesnt matter what Trump thinks. 2/3rds is unlikely to happen though. It'd be a massive rebuke to Trump and that is something Johnson cant abide. If there were enough republican defection to make a veto proof majority Johnson would do everything to prevent the vote.
1
Moccus Mar 27, 2026 +2
> 2/3rd support means it doesnt matter what Trump thinks. Not really. Trump would still be able to veto it even if the House passed it by a 2/3 majority vote. It would go back to Congress, and both houses would have to pass it by a 2/3 majority again to override. It wouldn't surprise me if some GOP members would flip their votes in that scenario, so no guarantee they would get a 2/3 majority the 2nd time around.
2
gdex86 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Veto proof majority doesnt mean it gets past the veto the first time just that the veto is a purely political move by the president since it will get past it.
1
Moccus Mar 27, 2026 +2
Like I said, just because it passes with 2/3 majority the first time doesn't guarantee that it will get a 2/3 majority again after the veto. It's rare, but it's happened before.
2
rvretiredlife Mar 27, 2026 +1
For johnson to avoid it. He will send the House on another extended vacation.
1
TargetApprehensive38 Mar 27, 2026 +1
He could in theory, but in addition to the 2/3 majority that would also require him to have a backbone.
1
stubob Mar 27, 2026 +2
I always love the term recess for Congress. One, it makes them seem like the children that they are. Two, I get to imagine them on swings and merry-go-rounds. After recess, milk and cookies and nap time.
2
rvretiredlife Mar 27, 2026 +1
No vacations when there is a shut down and no pay for congress either until the shutdown is over!!!!
1
Late-Dingo-8567 Mar 27, 2026 +5
you mean the deal that did pass the senate
5
ianrl337 Mar 27, 2026 +19
They didn't reject it, they refused to even vote on it. This is 100% on just Johnson. Really they need to do another discharge petition and force the vote.
19
bwat47 Mar 27, 2026 +4
the fact that the GOP congress never tries to override johnson when he pulls this BS means that its not just on johnson, its on all of them.
4
Sager2th Mar 27, 2026 +2
I mean there's no way this gets through before they go on East break right?
2
JDDJS Mar 27, 2026 +5
Do members of Congress go through the TSA? Because if I'm a TSA agent who's working without being paid and I saw the person blocking my paycheck coming through my line, yeah, I'd do everything in my power to make sure that he doesn't make his flight.
5
Sager2th Mar 27, 2026 +3
Problem with our fed is that a large amount of normal people have no idea who these people are, def not enough to stop them at TSA.
3
Ovrheadview Mar 27, 2026 +9
Well, I reject the pedophile protector war mongers that embody house Republicans.  They do not love this country. They are not for liberty and justice for all.
9
JDDJS Mar 27, 2026 +8
They want to tie their voter ID law to the funding. Representative Keith Self, said the voter ID bill is important to pass ahead of the upcoming midterms in order for his party to “retain the majority.” They're not even trying to hide the fact that it's voter suppression.

Are we great again yet?

HurinGaldorson Mar 27, 2026 +5
Love to see more Republican on Republican crime!
5
ClassyWizardCheese Mar 27, 2026 +3
Really, really foolish decision. The GOP fucked themselves.
3
AtomicVGZ Mar 27, 2026 +3
So they've pulled an uno reverso to make this unquestionably at GOP shutdown.
3
long_fish3000 Mar 27, 2026 +3
i honestly don't know why we have TSA workers anymore? how did they all not quite. this must be so annoying to work with not knowing if they'll get paid in two months or more craziness with happen like now
3
Mousesmomma Mar 27, 2026 +2
But it's the Democrats fault TSA workers are not being paid, hmmmm.🤔🤔
2
NightOwl_103197 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Trump misappropriated funds and paid them via an Executive Order. It’s the rest of DHS who goes unpaid
1
SeekingTanelorn Mar 27, 2026 +1
"Thanks Obama..."
1
CGI_OCD Mar 27, 2026 +1
And what Donnie Diaper really wants is not to fund TSA, he couldn’t care less. All he and his goons want is to get rid of the filibuster. Thats all.
1
TripleJ80 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Of course they did. Idiots. I’m so sick of saying “they’ll reap what they sow.” When the hell does the reaping begin?!?!
