Tehran could use the Houthis to take action in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

With so much attention focused in one choke point, the Strait of Hormuz, we almost forgot about another choke point in the Middle East – the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea. The Houthis have been threatening to turn the Iran war into a regional conflict. So this missile launch isn't exactly out of the blue.

Turn it into a regional conflict? Pretty sure Iran did that by attacking literally everyone within range of their missiles.

... And getting Hezbollah, Yemen and Hamas to attack Israel. Then Iran attacked Israel. Pretty much set the stage for a regional war. I wonder if the ME will ever be civilised.

I mean Iraq has joined against the US and is reportedly building forces near the Kuwaiti border. And UAE are officially joining against Iran. It's already Regional.

> Iraq has joined against the US and is massing on the Kuwaiti border. WHAT YEAR IS IT? More seriously, got a source? Google's not finding me anything, aside from stories about the 1st Gulf war

Just follow any non US News sources; Iraqi Official Tells Alhurra Why Iraq Authorized PMF to Respond to Attacks | Alhurra https://alhurra.com/en/17039 > On Tuesday, the Ministerial Council for National Security announced in a statement that all security forces, including the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), were authorized to “act under the principle of the right to respond and self-defense” against any attacks targeting their positions, whether carried out by warplanes or drones. The decision followed an attack on a PMF headquarters in Anbar province that killed at least 15 fighters, including the PMF operations commander in the province. > On Tuesday, Iraq’s Joint Operations Command, for the first time, accused the United States and Israel of being responsible for targeting the PMF in Anbar. And as we speak Yemen (Houthis) have just started strikes against Israel; https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cje4x38q8xqt > Houthis confirm they launched attack against Israel > The Iranian backed Houthis in Yemen have confirmed they have attacked Israel for the first time since the start of the US-Israeli war with Iran. > The group says it fired a barrage of ballistic missiles "targeting sensitive Israeli military sites" in response to the targeting of in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq and Palestinian territories. It adds that its operations will continue until the "aggression" on all fronts ends. They've also threatened to close the Bab al-Mandab Strait last week (which they have successfully done before). Most analysts just think they're holding onto this at Iran's request as a card to play later on.

So... not really "Iraq has joined against the US and is massing on the Kuwaiti border" then.

To be fair, I didn't predict that it would take this long.

If the hutis joined then it probably mean I.R.G.C is in a bad spot. They dont have other terror groups in the area other then hamas to active and i dont think they want to join.

This is probably the next step in the escalation ladder.

To play devils advocate to your point, it could also mean they have got back into some sort of hierarchy of control and gave their marching orders out. Who knows, either way, it's worrying times.
