My students give me inspiration. I quit my corporate job and decided I want to be a positive change and impact students in a positive way. I have to do something good for people when times are so bad.

Crisis is the new normal. You just have to be stoic and prepared for negative world events.
Like, I could go to church on a Sunday and during the church service, Russia might do a surprise attack on my country and carpet bomb my city so my apartment building might be shelled by Russians and I'd just have the things that I have in my bag and no home in the afternoon.
Bordering Russia, you have to be prepared for utterly idiotic and non-sensical aggression.

Here in Thailand I am staying home more than usual. Many of the gas stations are out of fuel and they just increased the prices about $0.70 per gallon / 6 baht per liter this week, if you are lucky enough to find some. It is the hot season, temperatures hitting near 40C/100F so I would love to go to the beach for a cool breeze but won't risk not being able to find fuel since it is about a 7 hour drive to the nearest one. Even the ones that have gas are limiting the amount you can buy.

2
ZorajiMar 28, 2026

Not yet, though the primary method of electricity generation is LNG Liquified Natural Gas so it may be an issue in the future - I believe they get some of their LNG from the Persian Gulf area.
If it continues for very long I might consider getting an electric car, the Chinese models like BYD are pretty c**** here, but I would have to upgrade the electric at my house to 3 phase to support more amperage for charging.

Single parents are probably getting hit from every angle right now—rent, groceries, childcare, school stuff, doctor visits, and just the general cost of keeping a household moving on one income and half a nervous system.
But honestly gas prices might be the most annoying one because that bleeds into everything else. It’s not just filling the tank—it's getting to work, dropping kids off, grocery prices going up, delivery costs going up, and suddenly every basic errand feels like it has a service fee attached to existing.
Being broke is expensive, and being a single parent in expensive times is basically playing life on expert mode.

I was lucky enough to have a true blue collar father that was skilled in damn near every trade that required construction, and no matter how big of an ass he was too a kid. Im extremely thankful for the knowledge ive obtained from him. I sadly think im one of few millennials and younger that possess the knowledge for electric, plumbing, hvac, concrete, framework, roofing. I would love to be proven wrong there but I remember being told in a course that there are now less blue collar workers than there are those in the military. And when I was in the military in 2011 that number was less than 1 percent of the country.

It's weird. It's morally correct for my life and every other American to be as miserable as possible. The United States and Israel are essentially Nazi Germany in this war, and if we are not stopped, we will commit global annihilation. The thing that frustrates me is that Americans are so uneducated that they don't know what's going on. I work in a gas station. I have had some people who didn't know why gas prices are so high. I am still trying to live my life, volunteering, and supporting candidates who know what's going on and are willing to stop it.
2
SagetheWise2222Mar 28, 2026

I'm concerned it's not just Americans, but anyone in developed countries outside of war hotspots like Ukraine. Going back to America for a second, a third didn't vote this time around. Of those two-thirds, I heavily suspect that the grand majority of them pay as little attention to politics as possible, only "waking up" to vote based on the party they always go for, and then go back into political hibernation for 2-4 years, rinse and repeat. Some \*may\* watch a speech by the president here and there, or watch a new story about grocery prices, but that's about it. \~90-95% of people go about their lives blissfully unaware in a painfully boring, normal world. I've seen comments that there will be an American civil war, or a revolution, but to be frank, that's not happening. Besides, would you rather go home to pay the bills, watch Stranger Things and eat chips, or do something crazy and being labelled as a terrorist?
There's a long gap between struggling to meet ends meet, and starving to death while your fellow neighbors are being grabbed from the streets while soldiers and tanks are marching through them. America's a very long way from the latter, and hopefully won't get there.

Made a plan. know there's gonna be hyper inflation so ive been shoving any and all spare money that i can into stocks and assets that can survive the death of AI.
I hunted down a decent used car in great shape and paid it in full straight cash so i could insure it for liability. I spent the past 2 years just saving cash so i can just buy a new car if anything totals my current.
I've always had a minimalist lifestyle so i live in a LCOL area. I only like drawing. I'm single, play some used video games.
I buy bulk when I go shopping so that i spend the least amount of gas possible. Huge trunk. Love me some noodles but spoil myself with burgers and chicken.
I don't need overpriced snacks and carbs, the bread and butter i eat already is enough.
Living c**** comes naturally to me as someone who was almost homeless a decade ago. I have a house now, if all goes well, my invested savings and dollar cost averaging outpace the rate of inflation. I pay the house off early and i can live a minimalist life coasting by with low risk of losing my home due to economic bullshit.

I had a bad feeling about the future so I decided to buy the cheapest possible house that would meet my needs. Turns out, this paid off in absolute SPADES.
Now, on my smaller income, I am secure and protected from rent hikes, and it's actually much cheaper than the price of rent in this area to begin with. And I have a garage.

Personally 2026 has been the best year of my life so far. I don't worry about stuff I cant change and live my life the way I want to live it. Every day you have a choice. I do pay attention to what is happening in the world, i dont want to be ignorant, but I've tailored my social media, listnook and youtube, so that i only see non-news related content. I look at the news intentionally, at specific times, not constantly though my feed. I also only pay attention to news outlets that demonstrate journalistic integrity. Reading clickbait titles all day long would send me into a tizzy and that is not good for my mental state. Even sometimes the news leaks into my social media but i will hit, not interested and if im seeing stuff that is upsetting me, i turn it off and go do something else in the real world. I've also started volunteering for a worthy cause a couple saturdays a month and the people are so lovely and I feel like im spending my time doing something that is worth wile. I suggest everyone to try volunteering for a local cause if they have the free time. It gives me energy to be active in the community and it is my third space i really look foreward to going to.
TLDR: STOP using social media for news, get news from sources with journalistic integrity at specific times, invest time in regular volunteering and activites that make me feel good

I started saying thank you a lot more and I even put on a suit.
All this wouldn’t have happened if not for Hunter Biden smoking crack and dicking around with big b**** latinas

Well not giving in to doomerism for one. My grocery bill was $33 this week. My rent is cheaper than it was 3 years ago and I’m in a larger, nicer place. I have a cool dog and will soon be quitting my shitty job to launch my own business. High five to me!

It's honestly not a terrible time for me, most of my family already have electric cars so if I'm going somewhere I'll just borrow one of theirs, haven't really seen any absurd pricing but i shop at places that get pretty solid deals. I stay updated with the war but I understand there's not much I can do except pray for the Iranian civilians. The only thing I'm worried about is the fact that this is clearly a war started by Israel to just get us to cover their ass while they bombard Lebanon for no reason. We have no reason to be over there and the constant excuse of "well they are close to building nuclear weapons" is ridiculous since they don't have any of the technology to begin such a task and they halted their nuclear weapons program IN 2003. This is a stupid war, started by a stupid guy. The only good thing that may come out of this is that maybe the tyrannical government of Iran may fall and give power back to the people.

Besides gas (which is only 3% of the average household budget anyways), what other things have skyrocketing prices?

I'm not saying life hasn't gotten more expensive. Im saying nothing has changed. Wars- inflation. Maybe you're just young? And this is all new to you? But the majority of the people in the world have always been in a state of "survival".
Turn off the news. Life will improve drastically.

Nothing has changed? Maybe we are young. He's delusional or rich. He wouldn't feel that way if he was 20 years old now compared to 20 years old then.

So youre trolling or just being dense? Philippines declared a state of emergency because theyre gonna run out of fuel in a month. There is a war and things have changed even if you live in lala land.

When hasn't there been a war? What does the Phillipines being in a state of emergency have to do with you? My husband works in West Africa. Countries all over the world are in states of emergency. Why are you concerned with Phillipines? Turn off the news. You can't do anything about it anyways.

Ya. Us old fogies. Lol. Babies have been being bombed for - like- forever. Out of touch? Mmmmm...I've lived in developing countries. Including countries in Africa. What's gross is choosing to virtue signal because partisan politics. And tribal bs.
