How do you feel about Trump saying they can’t fund Medicare, Medicaid, and daycare programs anymore because they need the money to fund the War?

I don't understand why Trump doesn't fund the war using all that tariff income being paid by foreign countries. Perhaps a reporter should ask about that. /s

jamawg Apr 2, 2026 +765
Trillions, wasn't it? Surely they can spare a few bill for the unfortunate?

Billions and billions. Maybe even trillions. Lots of people are saying that.

Ladyheather16 Apr 3, 2026 +31
So he's already stolen all of that money 🙄

Unable-Confusion-822 Apr 2, 2026 +7
Haha, no.
7
Vohldizar Apr 2, 2026 +308
/s aside.... its because they intend to steal that tarriff money on the way out the door
308
beatenmeat Apr 2, 2026 +62
On the way out? That impies two things: Trump will willingly cede power at the end of his term which seems unlikely since he has been fishing for excuses to cancel elections and Republicans are actually looking for ways to keep him in power *publicly*, and that they aren't already siphoning it which seems as equally as unlikely. Why would they let it sit there for years when they could be taking it now?
62
Vohldizar Apr 2, 2026 +37
you ain't wrong... and that could be why they are refusing to do refunds.... the money has already been moved into different accounts.
37
Just_thefacts_jack Apr 2, 2026 +30
Also because the tarrif money is a drop in the bucket.
30
wookiebro Apr 2, 2026 +73
Duh! Because all us citizens already got that money in the tariff kickback checks he's been sending since day 1! We're all rich now!
73
MossyPyrite Apr 2, 2026 +28
And don’t forget all the money we’re saving on the cost of eggs!
28
Elesia Apr 2, 2026 +11
I see the /s but just to be clear for anyone who isn't sure:  American companies and citizens pay those tariffs. Some foreign countries may *collect* that money on your behalf, but I promise you that not one of us had paid you a dime. It's all you. Whatever he steals on his way out the door came out of your pocket.

I may run for president as a third party, maybe call it the "Prosecution of the Persecuting Perpetrators Party," (or PPPP) with the pledge of doing almost nothing as the executive branch for four years *other* than prosecuting all the criminal activity from the previous four years and trying to repair our standing in the world with other world leaders. I wonder if that as a platform would garner enough votes to win. Will you vote for quad P? Triple P? Or maybe we could shorten it to PP.

You'll have to serve two terms

Campaigns are expensive. You need "kashish" to get in the game. The minute you are funded, you're in their pockets! And if you think you will run the campaign on s.media, if you aren't on the " narrative" your algorithm will be ermmmm made less visible.
6
Canuck-In-TO Apr 2, 2026 +6
Don’t shorten it to PP. That’s our Trump wannabe Pierre Poilievre. He’s Canada’s Federal Conservative Party leader (our version of the Republican leader and maple MAGA party). You don’t want the negativity that goes along with those idiots as well possibly giving them any relevance.

Nah man, Elon rigged the election for tRump so his investigations could get thrown out and be awarded MORE government contracts to steal more of our money. I was fuming when the DNC made Kamala accept the results so as not to either "sound like tRump" or "our mega-donors said so" when there is evidence. [Election Truth Alliance ](https://data.electiontruthalliance.org/) Edited for using the wrong word.
134
ip2k Apr 2, 2026 +93
To be fair, Elon also did DOGE to steal all the government databases and likely sell them to other countries and his buddy Thiel to ingest into Palantir to assist in anything they do in the future. They have all your tax records, medical history, employment history, every ticket and date and government record ever created about every American alive now.

TBF, the article says that the transaction didn’t happen—albeit because it wasn’t available to Morgan Stanley clients, not because Hegseth’s broker didn’t try to make the purchase.
29
Ronho Apr 2, 2026 +46
I 100% refuse to believe that this trade wasn’t available for Morgan Stanley. The guy didn’t want to go to prison for executing an obviously illegal transaction for Kegseth.
46
santinimi Apr 2, 2026 +49
I don’t wonder about that anymore. If Trump does something that has a major impact on the stock market, you can assume that he and his circle will profit from it financially.

He has a small room under the WH with a team of accomplished traders and ripoff artists manning a dozen terminals. Upstairs, Jared had three toadies that follow DJT around 24/7 recording tidbits of insider knowledge to funnel down to the grifters in the basement. Like the 2002 Breeder's Cup scandal on an industrial scale. When these fucks get bounced in 2028, there won't be any money left.

The $400 million ballroom. Everyone is talking about those greedy starving children but has anyone but trump had the courage to ask, "if we feed the hungry, where will the billionaires dance?".
164
binxlyostrich Apr 2, 2026 +41
And why is "it's from private donors" even an acceptable defense? Trump and the donors are STILL CHOOSING TO FUND A STUPID BALLROOM instead donating that money to help the American people. Those "donors" probably made that money on the backs of poor people by paying them under a livable wage and had to get food stamps and Medicaid, so taxpayers subsidized the rich companies anyway.
41
boogideeb Apr 2, 2026 +9
Those donations were likely bribes to assist with continuing to hurt poor people. Not that he wouldn't do it anyways.

At least Leeroy wouldn’t have trafficked the whelps to Epstein Island after breaking all the eggs. Meanwhile Trump would be telling people “I handle so many whelps. The best whelps. You just have to grab them by the dragussy. By the way I’m giving Iran a 50 dkp minus.”

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph on a motorbike, with Moses on the handlebars and their wee donkey in the basket ... Von Schlieffen planned the invasion of France through Belgium for 25 years ... "let the right wing grenadier brush the channel with his sleeve." The damn train schedule was figured out down to what car on what track when ... Trump took a shit one day and in his diaper it looked like the Ayatollah with his turban on, and he said "invade Iran." You have summoned Schlieffen and Moltke's ghosts ... /s

8
benk4 Apr 2, 2026 +22
Seriously I think it's a far bigger blunder. Not necessarily in consequence, but in how dumb of a mistake it was. The Schlieffen plan was a meticulously planned gambit that thought out all the scenarios and decided it was worth the risks. It backfired, but it's not like they charged into it with no plan, they just miscalculated. This was a war of aggression launched on a whim, there's no excuse for it.

Contrary to popular myths, the purpose of the fortifications was to divert the Germans towards the north, it functioned exactly as intended except it was thought up before people realized lobbing a million shells per week does pretty short work of fortresses
14
Capt_Dummy Apr 2, 2026 +60
Ever see the terrain they’ll be fighting in? It should be avoidable at all costs. Besides, didn’t we “win this war” like 3 weeks ago at this point?
60
Badrear Apr 2, 2026 +54
The war, that’s not a war, that’s the best war we’ve ever gotten into, that we won before we started, that we will win any day now, that Iran won’t even fight back against, that will escalate if Iran doesn’t stop fighting immediately, that will take months, that we’re pulling out of now? Never heard of it.
54
TruculentTurtIe Apr 2, 2026 +115
The US just randomly attacked a foreign nation, with 0 potential upside even IF you remove ethics or morality The US military is basically the most well funded Israeli hit squad in the world. And once trumps engaged his ego will never let him back down. Get ready to pay out the nose to achieve tremendous losses no one's ever seen before. Tossing your money into the endless US military expense pit, dead americans, dead Iranians, solidifying unity under the iranian regime, trump endlessly escalating until he nukes them because he cant handle "losing", environmental disasters from oil ship after oil ship being blown up, the straight being closed for anyone friendly with the US, Russia and Iran gaining allies and influence for oil, US currency being rejected for the Chinese currency, The list is literally endless. I genuinely cant think of a single benefit for the US, other than if you really needed to make israel, China, or Russia happy for *some reason*
115
0bfuscatory Apr 2, 2026 +12
“Even IF you remove ethics or morality” This is the most important thing. Once you give up the moral high ground, you become the problem, and the enemy.

ConversationPale8665 Apr 2, 2026 +42
Not only avoidable, he’s actually the causation behind the whole reasoning we’re there now. We had a decent Iran nuclear deal in 2015, look it up, it wasn’t perfect, but it was good. We essentially lifted sanctions on a run that had been in place for years and gave them access to hundreds of billions of dollars that were tied up in frozen accounts all over the world. In exchange, we got access to their facilities we limited how much uranium they could enrich into what extent, and we also removed most, if not all of their central fuses that are required to further enrich uranium. Then in 2018 Donald Trump comes along and rips that up. Mind you, this deal was widely accepted and agreed upon by the broader international community, including Europe and even Russia and China. So by tearing this deal up, we’ve essentially already paid or given access to a run to tons of money in exchange for them doing things or not doing things in the agreement and then we just ripped that agreement up after they’ve already been paid. So now we have no bargaining leverage. All we can do is further sanction them which only penalize them in the future, and they almost certainly started their uranium and their nuclear program up again. On top of that, and perhaps most importantly, the Iranians and a lot of countries around the world, realized at that moment that you can’t trust the United States of America to stick to a deal. Essentially the next president can come in and rip a deal up that was signed legally three years ago and there’s nothing you can do about it. So now we’re in a position where we’re trying to make a deal with a ran after bombing the literal shit out of them and it just so happens that the president that’s in office is trying to do a deal is the same president that shit all over the deal that they had that would’ve prevented most of this from even happening to begin with. You cannot make this shit up! We’re pretty fucked.

Because Trump is the no new wars president who was awarded all this cool peace prize stuff... They probably also want to distract from the whole Charlie Kirk thing being an inside job to try and create Horst Wessel 2.0 since the trial is going on now. I don't normally go big for conspiracy theories unless there is a very good reason. And usually do my best to d******* those that are unlikely. But after the video of the Trump assassination "attempt" and the complete lack of damage to his ear. Along with an Administration literally playing the Big Lie handbook out blatantly. There is very little I have trouble believing them capable of at this point. The insanity of every single action he takes is literally astounding.
208
kakarot-3 Apr 2, 2026 +181
The best proof that the Trump attempt was fake was the fact that he shut up about it. You know damn well he would bring it up every damn day to brag about how he survived it

12
patdashuri Apr 2, 2026 +20
But just the image, the result, the “proof” that he was shot. If it was a set up to make him look like a hero, that’s the part that does. He’s never talked about anything else. Normally he’d go on and on about the shooter and how he’s going to make sure he gets the death penalty and how his lawyers are on it and on and on. He’d bring up the parents, any liberal teachers, a leftist he knew at church, everything. But he didn’t. None of it. Just the image. His image.
20
horriblebearok Apr 2, 2026 +14
The only piece that I dont really get about all these is the shooter is always some flavor of magat. If they were fully concocted why arent they using a scarecrow liberal.

TruthorTroll Apr 2, 2026 +26
>The insanity of every single action he takes is literally astounding. Not insane... genius! The Trump administration is actually executing a brilliant playbook if you think about it. They just strive to be actively doing 5+ awful things at a time. The country will only b**** about the 1 or 2 worst and even then, only for a day or two before the next awful thing takes precedent and so on. Most of their evil shit goes under the radar and slips through the cracks as a result and they get loads of stuff done with zero accountability and barely a whisper of resistance. It takes balls to go this hard be this awful day in and day out, but if you're greedy and hateful enough to destroy the country, it's clearly super effective. He can openly lie without challenge and does so daily. He could piss on the Constitution and nobody cares. So long as Trump and his ilk never take their foot off the gas, normal people will never catch up to hold him accountable for anything.
26
zapitron Apr 2, 2026 +42
The administration's track record of dishonesty makes things like "it was an inside job" more _plausible_ but it doesn't actually contribute a shred of actual _evidence_ of an inside job. The question isn't whether or not they _would_ do it; the question is if they _did_ do it. And so far, I think the hypothesis of an inside job is still extremely light on evidence. It's not a conspiracy _theory_; it's just a conspiracy hypothesis which hasn't been able to be developed into a real theory (yet?). (inb4 someone bitches that I'm using the word "theory" like a scientist: hey assholes, _everyone_ should use the word that way. Distinguishing between merely-idle-thoughts ideas and _serious_ ideas is one of the best ways you can combat bullshit, and it doesn't cost you _anything_.)
42
AnRealDinosaur Apr 2, 2026 +6
It really feels like a lot of people are confusing "would" with "did" here. There is no doubt in my mind that this administration would do something like that 10 times before breakfast, I just dont think they did.

Because someone realized Trump has Frontal Lobe Dementia and can’t tell reality from fantasy. I have a theory that someone woke him up that night and told him that Iran was going to send bombs to DC and he needed to act first. Hence the 3am “press conference” after Iran had already agreed to destroy their uranium supplies. My guess is a drunk dept of “war” head decided it would be fun to play with his toy soldiers. But I’m just guessing. *edited for typos caused by low caffeine levels…

Exactly BUT If Trump’s could capitalize on healthcare he would. He literally created a government website called TrumpRX . Gov it’s just that he’s such a bad businessman that it isn’t successful. That’s why he has to cheat/bully people into giving him things. You can bet your bottom dollar if TrumpRX was successful he’d be pumping billions of dollars into it somehow the way he’s pumping money into ICE / DHS / etc But if he isn’t promoting from it he doesn’t want you to have it

29
paf0 Apr 2, 2026 +25
Yup, Trump's common phrases like "the radical left"and calling the democrats the "greatest enemy" is just prepping MAGA to accept violence. Somewhat related, I also think he went to the supreme court hearing to intimidate them and he'll try to remove some of the court, perhaps even by force, if they rule against him on birthright. MAGA will accept it, because they're "radical leftist" judges, and he's just trying to protect us from the "violent criminals" that encompass all immigrants. I'm happy to be wrong about any of this. I'm generally torn between being in awe of the calculated evil, and being sad that so many people believe it. We're a mess.

"War in the streets and war in the Middle East. Instead of a war on Poverty, they got a war on drugs so the police can bother me". The only part from Tupac's Changes that isn't still the case is "live to see a Black President, although I suppose he himself did not. I think it was written in 1993... 30+ years of truth

Amazon has a surprisingly good p******* too. My numbing cream for dialysis isn't covered by insurance, I was paying $16.50 per tube at my p*******. Amazon has 3 tubes for $25 including shipping! Cost Plus Drugs is the same price, but their availability was worse
37
YeOldeHotDog Apr 2, 2026 +9
Just adding on that my experience with Cost Plus Drugs has been great. I have insurance that they don't take, but my medication is 1/6th the price there compared to CVS using my insurance.

Man I wish there was a way I could help her. I don't live in the US and it's not possible for me to send her any otherwise I would, as insulin is free in my country. I really hope she manages to get her insulin.

It'll take millions of peoples' family members to die before y'all even **start** to do something about it, and it's designed that way, so the rich can fill their pockets as much as possible before paying back a small fraction of what they stole

I love it. Screw those old people (including veterans), those in need and those whiny children that can't take care of themselves. Such a drain on the economy and our country. I am so glad we are taking our country back for those who really matter and really need our support, the billionaires and their friends. Those are the people I care about because they pulled them up by their boot straps. Just hard work, a dream and 100M trust fund from their father and here they are.

Theres an old image that always rights true. In a restaurant, theres a bunch of tables with 1, thin, almost skeletal person seated. On the tables are written things like education, healthcare, culture. And theres 1 table with a completely overweight person and all the waiters focused on it. The table of war. I lived throught the 1980s. These last 2 years have been a repeat of those years. This statement about wars, Medicaid, Medicare and daycare sounds like the policians back then. Reagan was awful. (Like Thatcher in Britain) Reagan never said the word "AIDS". Couldn't bring himself to acknowledge men dropping dead left and right. Couldn't fund social safety net programs then either. He fell asleep in meetings too. He was diagnosed with dementa and died from it.

I say it has nothing to do with war. Trump just thinks we should all die for him. May 2025, 10,000 Veterans foreclosed because of programs removed without replacement 1million claims denied 2025 August 2025, Trans Veterans denied benefits Feb 2026 30,000 VA workers fired. March 2026 Guardianship over Veterans

7
astreetratnamedesire Apr 2, 2026 +691
it is exactly as predicted: He promised lower healthcare costs, reduction of inflation and increasing jobs and has failed on all of these fronts. The only people left who would work with him are either incompetent has beens or have some closet secret he can expose (Kristi...I'm lookin' at you.). And then there's the Epstein files. So, none of this a surprise. So....to the rest of the world, when you've seen all these protests in the media....we know the GOP is not listening to us. We're talking to you. We are showing you that a vast number of people in this country do NOT support these policies and we do not approve of this war.

it's actually the meaning of the "median" word

$1 billion a day to keep the war machine running. $1 billion stolen from school lunches for poor kids, medical care for the young, elderly and disabled. Medical funding for women - stolen to buy the military lobster dinners and $220 million commercials of Kristi Noem riding a horse broadcast on major networks and every airport in America. Illegal tariffs that increase food costs for millions of Americans. Farmers left without funding or fertilizer to grow crops Americans depend on. Gas prices have doubled and tripled to help fund a war of greed. I can’t even.

It angers me. I am at a loss as to why American voters are under the impression that they don’t deserve healthcare, housing, etc. Why don’t we want better? Why is it such a sin to require our elected officials to do their jobs? And most importantly, why is it so important to sacrifice so much just to “own the libs?” I didn’t know cutting off your nose to spite your face was so wide spread. /end rant
25
p_2923 Apr 2, 2026 +16
I asked this question over in r/asktrumpsupporters a while back, the answer I got was because it would mean a weaker military. Americans are the stupidest most fearful people on the planet, willing to f*** themselves over because they think the world is coming to get them.
16
stellarfury Apr 2, 2026 +11
American voters are very consistent on this point, actually. They want health care. They want housing. They want high-paying jobs. However, they also want to make sure that *other* people (anyone they happen to perceive as undeserving) **don't** get those things. Unfortunately, as we've observed, the second desire is the one that wins out.

RpcZ_gr7711 Apr 2, 2026 +11
For decades, the GOP has wanted to defund SS, Medicaid and Medicare. They despise the New Deal, they despise the Civil Rights legislation of the 1960s. The US is, and always has been, an ownership society. Labor should be c**** and available. Labor should work through sickness and disability until death. The ownership class is believed to be superior and government should not have to subsidize the poor, sick, or elderly. Let families and churches do that. Now, Iran has given them a seemingly patriotic, support the troops reason to defund all the things they despise. How do I feel? I’m pissed and I despise Trump and his GOP for their cruelty, crimes, greed and selfishness.
11
I_need_a_date_plz Apr 2, 2026 +9
He needs to be removed from office. Anyone involved in his continued support to run the country into the ground needs to be removed out of office. They have no business running a country.
9
Heckle_Jeckle Apr 2, 2026 +10
Oh? So will the money go back into those programs once the war stops? Of course not! This is just a dishonest excuse to defund social services. How about we can't afford war because we need to fund social programs?
10
TastingTheKoolaid Apr 2, 2026 +8
Does that mean when the war is over, in about two weeks(because it's always two weeks) that we get to have all those things????
8
darklesbiansanta Apr 2, 2026 +10
I feel like he can go f*** himself. People rely in those essential services, that they paid for by working and paying taxes. What should be considered unnecessary and should not be funded, are this illegal war, and the traitorous Trump administration pedophile ring.

My grandmother literally depends on Medicare for her heart medication and now she's terrified about what's going to happen next month. It's heartbreaking watching her ration pills because she doesn't know if her coverage will continue. This whole situation feels like we're being forced to choose between taking care of our own people and whatever conflict we're funding.
8
SeparateSoup Apr 2, 2026 +9
cutting core programs to fund war is the kind of tradeoff people always say won’t happen… until it does
9
SnivyEyes Apr 2, 2026 +8
Even if they could fund it, they wouldn’t. It would interfere with billionaire tax cuts.

8
ZevVeli Apr 2, 2026 +13
I'm going to use some right-wing rhetoric that I hate seeing all the time here: Why are we funding a war when there are homeless veterans on the street? Shouldn't we be taking care of the ones thay already exist before creating more of them?

Blatant hypocrisy! And I think EVERY DEMOCRATIC politician in the country should use the clip of him making this statement to beat the hell out of the Republicans with it leading up to the midterms. It should be playing, on repeat, on every electronic billboard in the country and used in every TV and radio ad they run.

6
Fit_Student_2569 Apr 2, 2026 +6
This has been a core Republican position since the time of FDR. They believe the federal government’s one and only job is war. Because they don’t want to pay taxes for anything else, because they don’t think it benefits them. No social security. No health care programs. No education, child care, housing, environmental protection, health and safety, consumer protection, etc. Nothing. Republicans are f****** terrible.
