How Impressive was Ocean's 11 interaction between Daniel and Rusty

Posted by One_Parsnip_8540

So it's not that i have seen this movie today for the first time or haven't identified this earlier. But today as i was scrolling YouTube i came across the Clip where Danny and Rusty are at Bar after getting SAUL on board. The whole scene has Danny talking and there was hardly a look from Rusty. Rusty was there on the bar table resting his head, but Danny kept talking and finally he confirmed what was needed without any explanation or indication from Rusty. I just had flashback with my buddies when even by the tone of our voice we used to identify if we are in crisis or we have to do something or maybe just a look across the table and we knew what we had to do next. That Scene was just everything that means to be friends.. not just any friends, but Brothers for Life.

Ten ought to do it don’t you think? Do you think we need one more? You think we need one more. Alright, we’ll get one more.

How funny would it be if Brad had lines, forgot them, and George just rolled with it.

calbearlupe Mar 28, 2026 +35
That actually seems so likely.
35
Thundahcaxzd Mar 28, 2026 +1
Why does that seem likely?

Actually, Soderberg talks about that scene in the commentary saying that in the script Pitt had lines. But they filmed a take of him being silent and, well…

I think Rusty just blinks slowly once at the end? It’s like his approval

GEORGE: I'm not even going to ask you. I want to know, but I'm not going to ask. You'll tell me when you feel comfortable… So what was it? Four hundred? Five hundred? Did you pay five hundred for this? Over six? Can't be seven. Don't tell me you paid seven hundred dollars for this jacket! Did you pay seven hundred dollars for this jacket? Is that what you're saying to me?! You are sick! Is that what you paid for this jacket?! _Over_ seven hundred? What did you pay for this jacket? I won't say anything. I wanna know what you paid for this jacket! Oh my God! A thousand dollars?! You paid _a thousand dollars_ for this jacket?! Alright, fine. I'm walking out of here right now thinking you paid a thousand dollars for this jacket, unless you tell me different. Oh-ho! Alright! I'll tell you what, if you don't say anything in the next five seconds, I'll know it was over a thousand!

The whole movie is an example of the perfect ensemble cast. Everyone is memorable and everyone has a real, distinct, role to play... no filler characters, or roles that blur together.

Don Cheadle’s accent bothers me. Apart from that I agree.

EshinX Mar 27, 2026 +182
I like to pretend Don Cheadle’s character is pretending he’s from England but is actually from like Atlanta. He thinks he’s more interesting with the accent, he just doesn’t realize his accent sucks.

udat42 Mar 27, 2026 +62
That’s a solid head canon. I might steal that for next time I watch it.

Well, now you've completely lost the element of surprise. You should still get a crew together, but you're leaning into Italian Job territory.
1
goteamnick Mar 28, 2026 +16
Great point. How long have you been Don Cheadle's publicist?
16
EshinX Mar 28, 2026 +1
As long as he’s hiring, I would gladly accept the job

I still use the phrase, "Good to be working wi' proppah villains." Making it's good to be working with competent coworkers.

I think about “we’re in Barney” practically every day. The movie really is incredible. Every character is played so well.

Which one is the amazing Yen? The little Chinese guy. Danny's face: *goddammit you fuckin d**** Danny's dialogue: *silence* The aahhh.... Together: The Bellagio, The Mirage and The MGM Grand.

Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn Mar 27, 2026 +133
I always loved the interaction when Danny gets everyone together. Linus is standing there unsure if he wants to do it when Reuben walks up to him... "You're Bobby Caldwell's kid. From Chicago? It's nice there." "Yeah." "That's wonderful. Now get inside the goddamn house." Always makes me laugh for whatever reason.

"Did you guys get a group rate or something?" Always hilarious.

When i was a kid watching this on dvd i always thought he was saying "You guys get a good grade or something?"

I like his "you're still in the middle of the fuckin' desert" line while explaining why the job won't work. And the utah twins drag racing.

“I’ll drop you like third period French” is one of my favorite throwaway lines ever

TouristOpentotravel Mar 28, 2026 +16
I loved in the third one when it’s revealed in the elevator that the FBI agent is Bobby Caldwell and the disappointment in Linus’ scam.

I did like his mom when she told Linus that guy was just screwing with him.

It's Rusty's line during this part of the exchange.

Danny and rusty deserve an entire movie together. The dialogue that Clooney and Pitt are able to come up with is awesome and very believable with their characters.
49
BigLan2 Mar 27, 2026 +38
They tried to recreate that magic with "Wolfs" a couple years ago and it just didn't work.
38
tpero Mar 28, 2026 +15
I just stumbled upon that recently, hadn't heard of it. Decently entertaining, but yeah, nowhere near the same chemistry.
15
Spiritual-Strike481 Mar 28, 2026 +8
That’s right! Wolfs I remember now. The last scene where the gunfight in the diner that’s the one. Yea it certainly wasn’t like Danny and rusty. But it was still pretty good I thought.

I thought it did. Can watch the movie just for those two

Their best interaction is watching Livingston (the computer nerd) almost get pinched because he was sweating into the map he’d drawn on his palm.  After he *barely* gets out undetected: **Danny**:  Well, **Rusty**: Yeah!

Something about this line has stuck with me. Invariably once a week, my wife or I will insert this into our everyday conversation, even if it really doesn’t make sense.

It really is the perfect heist movie.

DAHFreedom Mar 28, 2026 +12
Best heist movies: 1) Sneakers (ensemble all-star cast, three heists) 2) Oceans 11 (ensemble all-star cast, one heist) 3) Topkapi (because it’s incredible, but also because it was the inspiration for the iconic scene in…) 4) Mission Impossible 1

It's two people that think alike and know each other inside and out. Rusty knows Danny is going to come up with the answer to his question on his own (Danny already knows the answer himself) and is basically just problem solving out loud.

donutsforbenny Mar 28, 2026 +21
such a great movie every line is just perfection >been practicing that speech haven't you? >little bit, did i rush it? felt like i rushed it >nah it was good i liked it

There's this one, but my favorite is when they're talking to Saul: - We owe you, for that thing with the guy - I've never been to Belize
43
jedichric Mar 27, 2026 +16
Pretty sure that was between Rueben, Rusty and Daniel.

My favorite part of that movie is when Danny and Rusty are walking out of the c***** and the fans and paparazzi are all going after the celebrities that they were teaching p****.

I never even noticed this. Hilarious.

I point this out every time now after noticing it on watch #30. The press hound Topher Grace and Josh Jackson while letting Brad Pitt and George Clooney walk by.

Real talk

Growly150 Mar 28, 2026 +3
George Clooney's acting is really subtle and on point in every scene, like pitch perfect.
3
mazzicc Mar 28, 2026 +1
I always interpreted this scene as Danny knowing as he starts talking that he needs another, and trying to talk himself out of it, and Rusty just not paying attention or caring, and waiting for Danny to get where he’s going. I didn’t see it as an exchange as much as Danny talking to himself and Rusty knowing his input isn’t needed.

steelicarus Mar 28, 2026 +1
Is this scene that stays with me for the exact same reason

floraldepths Mar 28, 2026 +1
This is my most beloved movie of all time. My sister and I can quote it almost verbatim as we watch it. I think i saw it the first time when I was maybe 12? It’s the film I watch when I’m having a bad day, or am unwell and blooping around the house. Rainy days.

DinosaurOnASpaceship Mar 28, 2026 +3
Ha. Finally got a chance to say this line in irl. My brother and I were a uhual buying boxes for a small move. We were in line, he looks at the boxes he has and looks little uncertain. I saw my opportunity and went for it: “you think we need one more…” Best day ever.
