How popular was La'Piovra, Italian crime tv show in your country?

Posted by Medical-Pace-8099

This Italian gritty crime tv show was very popular in certain countries. For example it was even shown in Soviet Union and other communistic countries in 80s. It reached huge popularity in those countries and many people who were teens in 80's remember this Italian crime show very well. Anybody here maybe watched this tv show in 80's?

Guess I’m too young because I’ve literally never heard of it

In 1990s we had even a funny pop song about the main character, Katani (google Captain Katalkin, the song says literally, like, yeah, your Katani was a cool law enforcement officer, but we have our cool ones here too). Mikele Placido was extremely popular and had a lot of fans. That kinda faded in early-to-mid 2000s. If you are a zoomer, you probably have never seen it, but it did happen.

Weird thing is, I’m not a zoomer. Guess it wasn’t as popular where I’m from or I missed it by a couple years.

People who were born in 90s probably have less chance to see this tv show unless they parents shows them or find a channel that showed La’Piovra

Essentially unheard of. I only know of it because there is an [Italian h******* punk band with the same name](https://youtu.be/DUmKG0pGkfM?si=Hv-bC4WHbBQxDM3V)

It was always on Australian TV in the 90's, it was called The Octopus. I loved it when I was a kid. The season with Cattani and Conti against Tano was epic.

UK, I’ve never heard of it even once, so presumably not especially popular over here.

In UK i think there weren't any non-english shows that had huge popularity in UK. Unless Monkey in 1979 but dubbed.

Few people from English speaking countries consume very much non English speaking media but outside the anglophone world is a much higher prevalance for shows and movies from all over the world

Seems like it may not have even been available here until long after it ended. The wiki says it was available in the US on MHz Networks, which wasn't founded until 2001.

This has been on my watch list for a while. Any suggestions how to watch with English subtitles from the UK?

I think this is a problem. It is not very accessible in many platforms
