This is so numb and obvious but Trump is doing exactly what Russia wants. Spending tens of billions on Iran and depleting stocks of ammunition and ordinance, all while simultaneously allowing Russia to make tens of billions on oil sales. I’m not sure if the United States could do anything kore to help Russia against Ukraine except maybe literally give Russia weapons and ordinance.

Putin has first-hand experience being bled dry by inept military spending. TBH, I don't think Putin can play a role here. Iran is in its own war now and can't support Putin in Ukraine. That seems to me to be the bigger consequence. Russia supporting Iran just accelerates overspending.
