Hungary’s Magyar topples Orban in blow to Russian energy
Orban, the EU’s longest-serving leader and an outspoken supporter of Russian energy supplies, built Hungary’s model around discounted imports from Moscow, leaving deep structural dependence through pipelines and long-term contracts. Donatienne Ruy, a research fellow in the Europe, Russia and Eurasia programme at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Montel

It’s because the US wants to weaken the EU.

Something about modeling their fantasy of a US autocracy on what Orban did in Hungary, a slow dismantling of democratic institutions. Except in the US they're trying to speedrun it.

They're all part of the same authoritarian faction, it is not surprising at all.

The real answer is that Russia has been funneling money into authoritarian right-wing think tanks in Hungary to help them (Hungarian cons) cement their power and give them some form of authenticity, and then those ideas and money are slowly shared in the US and created the current conservative brand in the US. Vance, Thiel, and co are direct beneficiaries and users of this movement so they work directly with the Hungarian project to help bolster and provide legitimacy to Russia brand oligarchy and conservatism

This is the question that matters most and most media are hiding from. I wonder if those Ukraine "peace talks" were actually Von Ribbentrop Pakt 2, where US hands over Europe to Russia in favor of a strategic allegiance against China once the inevitable shit hits the fan. The only chance Europe has is when Poland and Germany become so pissed they team up and the rest follows.

Not true >On Russia, he said Hungary is open to pragmatic cooperation and will continue purchasing Russian oil. Magyar added that he would not initiate contact with Putin, but would take the call if he reaches out and would urge him to end the war in Ukraine. They’ll still be buying Russian energy

I mean… is there a practical world in which Hungary purchases 0 oil from Russia? Shit, doesn’t Ukraine still allow Russian oil to go through the country, specifically the ones going to Hungary?

Hungarian economic has been neutered for over a decade now. A country cannot change its energy policy over night, they will need to start beefing up their renewable as those are the most easily to protect. In the meantime, Hungary is broke. If they ditched Russian energy the only option will be significantly more costly. All of these nations that refused renewable infrastructure all because their oil companies lobbying which they ALL accepted are in this boat. It is fundamentally anti-self-interest to refuse renewable infrastructure.
