I decided to give Godfather of Harlem a try but....

I am struggling to get through it. I just started the fourth season and am super invested in the story now but....where do I start?? Forest Whitaker was the wrong choice to play this character and this is now making me realize I completely overlooked that he is a terrible actor. Sorry not sorry....he is....he overacts in every single thing he does and this is no exception. Secondly, whoever thought adding mumble rap to a period piece such as the 60's should be tarred and feathered and then burned. It does not mix...not in the slightest....this period was an era of revolution and freedom fighting....black people were a proud people, decent, fighting for basic rights, self aware, etc and you decide to put mumble rap to that??? It doesn't make any kind of sense...Forest is not the only one....there are only a few decent actors in the show....the writing is atrocious and some things simply make no sense. Vincent D is one of the only decent actors but even still, he cannot save this show....everytime I finish an episode I have to watch an episode of Boardwalk Empire right behind it.....this show is baaaaaddd.....and not in a good way.....

That is actually a good idea...it throws me off SO much because as a studier and lover of history, this modern 'rap' just isn't feasible...it makes my stomach turn....

Man I feel you on Forest Whitaker, he does this weird thing where he squints and whispers dramatically in every role like he's trying way too hard to be intense. The mumble rap thing is wild choice too - like why would you put modern trap beats over scenes from the 60s civil rights era, it just pulls you right out of the moment. I tried watching few episodes last year but couldn't get past how forced everything felt, especially the dialogue which sounds like nobody actually talks that way. At least Vincent D'Onofrio brings some energy but yeah one good performance can't carry whole show when everything else feels off

THANK YOU!! That is why I say the writing is atrocious, like WHO talks that way?? Agreed with at least two powerhouse actors in Vincent D'Onofrio and Giancarlo Esposito, you get some genuine moments but the overall acting sucks major monkey balls, even that little girl Margaret...the woman who plays Elise ALWAYS seems like she is on something.....I rewatched A Rage in Harlem a week ago and this is when I realized that Forest Whitaker has ALWAYS been this way!! Trying way too hard to be intense and it just never works.....
