I don't think anyone cares, but I was #261 to sign up. Out of 1.36 billion, I was one of the first hundred.

Posted by StrictlyRockers

Easily verifiable. Out of 1.36 billion users, I am number 261. Signed up on August 5, 2005. It will be 21 years this August. A glitch from the "hot swap" from List to Python done by Aaron Schwarz in 2006 causes my cake day and join date to show inaccurate data on my profile. I was one of the first 100 to sign up. Spez (Alexis Ohanian) and Steve Huffman created a few hundred fake accounts in the first months. They said 99% of the accounts were fake then. I am in the top 0.000019% of all Listnook users ever created.

My flex is that I found the oldest YouTube video with no comments and made the first comment. It is currently the [video #83](https://youtu.be/hm8Vcw1yjDM) out of 15+ billion. Amazingly, nobody had commented on it before me for almost 15 years.

That's actually pretty cool. Worthy flex.

If you type in to YouTube "IMG" followed by any 4 numbers, you will find a bunch of random videos, most with under a dozen views and with no comments. It's usually just random things people recorded and uploaded from their phone.

Omg I love this

Dr-Sun-Stiles Mar 28, 2026 +44
There's a channel dedicated to mapping out YouTube's "recycle bin," or, finding videos with zero (or close to zero) views. It's interesting how there really is just everything on YouTube, posted with generic titles so they're never really viewed
44
SquirrelAkl Mar 27, 2026 +101
What was the video of? Was it from someone who posted prolifically or just someone trying it out and never went any further with it?

Max_FI Mar 27, 2026 +135
You can check the video from that link. It's some kind of a Chinese commercial. They posted 9 videos in 16-18 June 2005. Before 13 June, there were very few videos by only a couple of users, so I guess you needed some kind of an invite to upload before that. This user posted three more videos in the following years, then nothing for 14 years until a new video five months ago.

I have some videos that I uploaded in 2006. A lot of the comments are people criticizing the video quality. They were shot with a Samsung sgh flip phone. Released 6 months before the first iPhone. I'm impressed that I could even get a video off the phone with no WiFi or data, into my computer, and then onto the internet.

SquirrelAkl Mar 27, 2026 +59
Ah a Chinese soft drink ad! Interesting that it shows people working in rice paddies drinking the drink. I think of China as ultra modern cities now, but it modernised so quickly that perhaps 20 years ago rural workers were a key target market for soft drinks. Perhaps they still are and my perception is just too narrow!

freedom_or_bust Mar 27, 2026 +21
Do you think of the US as being an extremely Urban country? China is like 30% rural while the US is around 20%
21
testthrowawayzz Mar 27, 2026 +9
The text in the video is in traditional Chinese and the description said it came from NCTU (National Chiao Tung University) of Taiwan, so it's aimed at Taiwanese audiences, not China.

How did you find Listnook in the first place? What motivated you to sign up at that stage?

I was active on Digg. I have some weird brain condition that makes me constantly seek out knowledge online. I am an "infomaniac". Digg fed my brain's neurosis. I quickly spotted the problems that were happening with Digg in late 2005. It wasn't just the bullshit with SirBabyMan and his gamified brigading of their system to constantly get his stuff to the top. Back then Digg was actually superior to Listnook in its interface. Listnook had no sublistnooks, no images, no memes, nothing but the ability to post links and comment. And it was all on one single front page. But I could see the writing on the wall. Digg was dying. It wasn't democratic. It wasn't real crowd-sourcing. Listnook had that. I was part of the very first exodus from Digg to Listnook. I told my real life friends that Digg was dying but they didn't believe me. I was right. Listnook took over and Digg fell off massively. We all grew up on Santa Cruz together. Some of us were pretty plugged in to what was happening over the hill in Silicon Valley, and we loved the early web. I NEEDED to be using the best place for crowd sourced information to feed my hungry, curious, divergent, insatiable ADHD brain. Listnook was it. Digg was not it. It's the same reason I joined Twitter in 2010 and had 175k across my two accounts before bailing on that site in 2024. It's the same reason I've built up to 118k on Bluesky in a couple of years. I'm #657 most followed on Bluesky, and lots of the larger accounts follow me. I really don't have much to brag about. And I'm tipsy rn, so I came here to brag about this.
1037
sklaeza Mar 27, 2026 +172
That’s cool! What do you think of the current state of Listnook?
172
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +371
I mean I still come here every day and have for more or less the past 20 years. I don't think anything I write will say more than that. There is definitely wayyy more censorship, and I do not like that. But I'm just a fish swimming in the water. The water is Listnook and Bluesky, and I guess Youtube if you count that. I don't visit other ponds much.

I ate a ban for criticizing the US government despite not even living on the same hemisphere
23
optimistic_agnostic Mar 27, 2026 +8
Yeah mine was either for stating the fact Europe has contributed *far* more military and economic aide to Ukrainian than the US or a very mild criticism of Israel for going too far with their regional war ambitions. Its an insane place over there.
8
skivian Mar 27, 2026 +13
my first and only [removed by listnook] was talking shit about how we didn't learn anything from the German's prison camps in the 2nd world war because it turns out the kind of crazy a****** doing the stuff they were doing didn't actually do any real science and were just torturing prisoners for fun.
13
DylantheMango Mar 28, 2026 +4
My only ban, which I call a flex as someone who really sticks to their spaces prior to it, is /r/conservative. I started perusing it because I believe it's important to understand those you dont agree with. Im okay with this. Especially because my comment is innocuous enough and by no means inflammatory.

I'm old af now. I don't have the motivation. I've also been posting on Democratic Underground since 2003. Old people like familiarity. But then again, I'm not like most old people. I've been doing the same shit since I was 19. I still ride my bike every day. Tell me where to go.

Some of the censorship has been a good thing.  Do you remember everything that was allowed before?  All the fucked up sublistnooks that were allowed?
5
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +9
I do. Listnook was very much the “wild west” back then. It was obvious they were going to have to crack down eventually when CP and even some CSAM started showing up. Some censorship on these sites will always be necessary. I’m not gonna hang out at a “Nazi bar”. I’d have to leave.
9
almondania Mar 27, 2026 +11
This website blows now compared to what it used to be. It still offers the most comprehensive volume of “straight forward” info - sports info, hobby discussion, music, photography, etc etc, however, it it pathetically censored and feels disingenuous when it comes to discussions that aren’t black and white.
11
not_so_plausible Mar 27, 2026 +8
Remember when it was a "beacon of free speech" and even the slightest hint at censorship led to an absolute shit storm from users? Those were the days
8
dublued Mar 27, 2026 +28
I was also a Digg refugee. I lurked for a few years before finally creating an account. The only way I'm ever leaving Listnook is if old.listnook goes away and RIF is fun app stops working
28
thetatershaveeyes Mar 27, 2026 +18
If old.listnook goes away, the first thing someone will do is make a browser extension to make the current listnook work like old.listnook... I know because that's what I'm doing right now, lol.
18
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +10
lol Old Listnook was superior. I’ll die on this hill.

Dang, another listnook OG. Y'all making me feel young. I also loved and left Digg, but took me longer to sign up than y'allz. I also live on old.listnook because the redesign was and remains trash. When I occasionally get switched to regular, its like accidentally eating a brussel sprout.
13
Johnno74 Mar 27, 2026 +7
Me too friend. I remember the Digg vs Listnook wars, it was all pretty good natured and fun. I had a foot in both camps about then. Then Digg came out with V3 and fucked everything up, and most of their users bailed. It was a year or two after that I stopped lurking and created an account.
7
OkSmoke9195 Mar 27, 2026 +5
Also went to digg for everything back in the day. Took me until 2010 to find Listnook
5
daemin Mar 27, 2026 +5
I don't often encounter a listnook account (almost) as old as mine in the wild, but it's nice to know there are others out there.
5
contextual_somebody Mar 27, 2026 +9
Same. I tried Listnook early and didn’t like it—too many dumb narwhal in-jokes and cringe atheists. I’m bummed because I forgot my original account details so this is my second. It’s 15.5 years old, but still…
9
emmakobs Mar 27, 2026 +10
I don't think it's Listnook anymore, either. But what else is there?
10
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +19
There is not much else. Bluesky is worthy if you're willing to put in the effort. It can take some time to create what you want there. That sounds vague, but I mean I'm addicted to both sites. Listnook is easy for noobs compared to Bluesky.
19
Cerulean_Zen Mar 27, 2026 +15
Any tips on how to create what I want on Bluesky? I think my account is about 1 year old and I don't log on everyday (which I intend on improving) so I'm still navigating the landscape. Btw, thanks for starting this thread. My flex is that I have an FB conversation from when it was still run by Zuck and just 3 other people. We were all still in college (so the app wasn't public yet) and I complained to them about some changes they had made to the site. I literally told them that we're all lazy college students and you're trying to make us "do" more stuff lmao. Not a quote but that was the gist.
15
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +8
So you joined FB around the same time I joined Listnook. That's big flex. I've spent hundreds of hours getting Bluesky to run like my old Twitter did. I get news instantly by browsing my notifications that are set up to follow all the news hounds and journalists who race to be first to post the latest news. That's how I like it. I'm weird. I want news first. I want to know everything. I'm like Mr. Universe from 'Serenity', or Donald Hogan from 'Stand On Zanzibar.
8
Cerulean_Zen Mar 27, 2026 +5
Yep, that's about right I tend to forget the year I graduated but I think Zuck is only 1 year older than me. I think knowing the latest news first is legit.
5
emmakobs Mar 27, 2026 +8
Yeah, that tracks. Can't say I'm interested in Bluesky!

You've gotta start investing like $100 in whatever new platform you create an account on. I wonder if you can email founders and be like "hey man I know you've got millions from a VC but what can I get for $100?"

I came here from Digg as well. This is my second account and it's 15 years old. I think I made my first account in 2008. Before Digg I was on Slashdot. Do you remember Krispykrackers and karmanaut (spelling?)? Those are two names that stand out from early listnook.
18
Savafan1 Mar 27, 2026 +4
Slashdot to Digg to Listnook was how I got here too. I was early on slashdot though.
4
Ding-Dong-Dutch Mar 27, 2026 +3
I saw way too many goatses on slashdot.  It was before they showed the domain for links in comments and some clown would post some info with a link for further reading and bam you'd stare right into eye or the abyss

3
WSCOKN Mar 27, 2026 +31
How could anyone verify this? It's not like they put the number on your account.
31
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +83
While Listnook's UI doesn't show you a number, the API does. Behind your profile is a specific `created_utc` value. It's a unique number representing the exact second your account was born. To verify an account's specific registration rank you have to move past the standard user interface and look at the underlying Base36ID and Unix timestamp. Listnook assigns every user a unique ID (a "fullname") in the format `t2_xxxxx`. These IDs are assigned sequentially in Base36 (using numbers 0-9 and letters a-z). * An account created today has a very long, complex alphanumeric ID. * An account created in 2005 has a very short ID. Mine is`t2_79`. * To verify we look for the ID `t2_79` (261 in decimal converts to 79 in Base36). By querying the Listnook API (specifically the [`https://www.listnook.com/user/StrictlyRockers/about.json`](https://www.listnook.com/user/StrictlyRockers/about.json) endpoint), we pull the exact second the account was initialized. While Listnook doesn't display "You are user #261" on the profile, third-party archival tools like ListnookArchive or the Wayback Machine can crawl the user database and by sorting all known `t2` IDs by their creation integer, we can see exactly where an account sits in the queue.
83
sofutofu Mar 27, 2026 +14
I have a 19 year old account, can someone help me figure mine out please? Im kinda "working" atm
14
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +23
Holy shit, dude, your account is almost a month older than mine! The account u/sofutofu was created on July 10, 2005, at 20:49:09 UTC. Your account u/sofutofu is the 180th account ever created on Listnook. My account is #261. Those are the official numbers, but Ohanian and Spez say that 99% of the accounts that were created in the first few months were “sock puppet” accounts created by them so Listnook would not look like a ghost town. The historical Listnook archives of the "First 200" show that almost every name preceding u/sofutofu is a known developer, a Y Combinator affiliate, or a confirmed sockpuppet/test account used by the founders. So, looking at all of the data and information available, I think it is reasonable to assume that you’re in the first 25 accounts that were created by an actual human who was not a developer or a founder of the site. Way cool.
23
sofutofu Mar 27, 2026 +15
Wow that's nuts!! Thank you for taking a look and letting me know. I used fark.com way back but they made some big changes and there was a migration over to digg, i remember feeling like digg was not for me but found talk of listnook on there. Listnook felt like a better fit and I've found nothing better since despite trying lol. Again this is nuts and I did not expect your answer!

I had a similar trajectory as you. Finally moved over to Listnook when it seemed a large percentage of links were straight from here, so might as well move here myself. It’s nothing like it was back then and I keep hoping something new pops up.

Where are seeing that your id is t2\_79? As far as I can tell it's t2\_176ta? Trying to figure out mine as I joined in 2006, earlier than your currently listed date (though I know you mention that your data was messed up).
3

I'm not seeing anything beginning with t2\_ in your file.. there is a t5\_b1mjr. Wonder why it's different from your end Curious what you can glean about my account via your technique

Plastic_Grab6710 Mar 27, 2026 +13
I remember joining Listnook back when it was way smaller and thinking I was late to the party then. Also felt that weird pride about having a low user ID on some random site. Honestly that IS kind of cool, even if it doesn't matter practically. Like, you were there before it was cool.

StrictlyRockers was the name of the reggae radio show I did on UCSC's college radio station for several years. I took over while the main DJ had two babies. That show ran for over 35 years on KZSC 88.1 FM. [https://programs.testradio.org/KZSC/show/62509/Strictly-Rockers](https://programs.testradio.org/KZSC/show/62509/Strictly-Rockers)

Was u/maxwellhill really G. Maxwell? Not trying to stir any pots, just genuinely curious! When I first read that theory and all of the backing evidence it kind of opened my mind that all walks of life use Listnook, whether good or bad and it kinda blew my mind. Like you could be talking to the most genuine and kind human in one thread and the most sinister and evil person in the next. You just never know.

ProjectPneumbra Mar 27, 2026 +7
And still only has 21k karma. Bless your lurking heart.

I was the second paying customer into the Greater Cleveland Aquarium when it officially opened on January 21, 2012. I like your achievement better though.

4
evil_lurker Mar 27, 2026 +4
99% of the accounts were fake then, 99% are fake now. We have come full circle.
4
nyclurker369 Mar 27, 2026 +5
Interesting. And your karma is still hella low, so you just lurking this whole time?
5
PrecedentialAssassin Mar 27, 2026 +5
My flex like this is that I have one of the first beta gmail accounts from back in 2004. My email address is my first initial last name at gmail and its a pretty common last name.
5
Temporary-Ad6644 Mar 27, 2026 +5

5
RelativeFacts Mar 27, 2026 +6

6
dayglo98 Mar 28, 2026 +6

goodvibezone Mar 27, 2026 +5

5
Oxygenitic Mar 27, 2026 +3
That’s cool as shit. Do you like Listnook more, less, or the same amount as you did when you first joined?
3
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +4
IDK I still come here every damn day. I think that says the most. It could be better.
4
tekmailer Mar 27, 2026 +3
Any Rddt shares?

3
rutlander Mar 27, 2026 +3
I came over from FARK in 2005 as well but that account is long gone and I didn’t like Listnook much anyway back then, spent way more time on digg. Once digg crashed and burned I came here and I’m still here
3
louiselovatic Mar 27, 2026 +3
How can you be #261 and one of the first hundred?

Damn, an expertise in Virginism!
3
stephan1emar1e Mar 27, 2026 +3
I thought me being on Listnook for 14 years and remembering Listnook secret Santa made me old. You are a Listnook elder.
3
Lizhasausername Mar 27, 2026 +3
I’m Facebook member #150-ish (not giving specific number to avoid self dozing).
3
InZaneFlea Mar 27, 2026 +3
I have a 5 digit steam ID. Somewhere around the 72,000th to create a steam account. That's my big flex.
3
getstonedsteve Mar 27, 2026 +3
I got in when it showed up on digg. Around 2010ish somewhere the scrapers got traction in posts. It's the first time I realized how much info we put out there, it's a bit scary. I've been deleting and making new accounts every year or two since then. Karma is a horrible payment system for massive amounts of personal info.
3
chindogucci Mar 27, 2026 +3
Lol, hello fellow kid
3
reddest_of_trash Mar 27, 2026 +3
"They said the first 99% of accounts were fake"... So nothing has changed?
3
carnalasadasalad Mar 27, 2026 +3
My internet flexs are that I had one of the first BBS’s to connect to the internet and it is still live, and that my and my families Gmail accounts are just our names.
3
quietjaguar27 Mar 27, 2026 +3
You signed up exactly one month before I was born
3
smellyhamper Mar 27, 2026 +3
I believe I’m pretty close…maybe I beat you?
3
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +3
Wow! This thread is really bringing out the OG‘s. U/smellyhamper Creation Rank: #242 Creation Date: July 11, 2005, at 19:42:07 UTC. Account Age: This account is 20 years old (turning 21 in July 2026). It was registered just 18 days after Listnook launched and exactly one day after u/sofutofu (#180). You are easily one of the first 20 accounts created on Listnook that wasn’t created as a tester for the developers or a sock puppet by the founders during the fake it until you make it phase. Mad respect. Way cool. Your account was created almost a month before mine was.
3
smellyhamper Mar 27, 2026 +3
Cool! I’ve been a heavy HN user since the beginning - I’m sure that’s how I heard of Listnook. When does the narwhal bacon? Ha!
3
Cave-Lyf Mar 27, 2026 +3
I've created ande deleted hundreds of accounts since digg went to hell in 2006 and listnook was born.
3
clejeune Mar 27, 2026 +3
And yet your karma is so low…
3
fafnir665 Mar 27, 2026 +3
I don’t think my number is lower than yours, but my account is older, odd.
3
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +3
Goddamn, some serious OG’s are showing up in this thread. The account u/fafnir665 is the 246th account ever created on Listnook. Creation Rank: #246 Creation Date: July 11, 2005, at 21:03:00 UTC. This account was registered only 18 days after the site launched. fafnir665 was created just 4 minutes after u/smellyhamper (#242) who also posted in this thread. In the span of those four minutes, only three other accounts were registered.
3
Th3_C0bra Mar 27, 2026 +3
Greetings my fellow 19yo account.
3
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +3
Another OG! Creation Rank: #249 Creation Date: July 11, 2005, at 21:13:31 UTC. Account Age: This account is 20 years old. It was registered on the same day as u/smellyhamper (#242) and u/fafnir665 (#246), appearing just about 10 minutes after fafnir. Both of them have posted in this thread. u/sofutofu has also posted in the thread. They have the oldest account here at #180.
3
fafnir665 Mar 27, 2026 +3
I wonder why his says 19yo and mine says 20yo? Listnook is weird sometimes

Not as cool but I was one of the first 1000 Pandora users. I remember getting a free Pandora one upgrade for a year in one of their anniversaries.

HelloS0n Mar 27, 2026 +3
I had a three letter PSN username.

I just got an award for being a contributor today. After more than 10 years? I didn’t know anyone was keeping track
3
theirwinmango Mar 27, 2026 +3
Wow. What made you decide to be an early adopter? Do you normally find yourself to be a early adopter in other areas of your life?
3
BloodSoakedDoilies Mar 27, 2026 +3
So?

surgeon_michael Mar 28, 2026 +3
I remember sitting in my college house and my roommate was showing me ‘the front page of the internet’. Summer 06. I thought it was lame, I was a forum guy and preferred that format (for car stuff it can’t be beat from a search archive and the amount of knowledge on there is absurd)
3
realEricLarson Mar 28, 2026 +3
Oh yeah? Well, I'm.... I'm. .. .. um. I'm... . oh. . .uh.. .. hhmm.. oh well. . . . .. Congratulations!!

taco_tuesdays Mar 27, 2026 +4
Wait a minute, there are 1.6 billion users on Listnook? That’s over 10% of the world population!! How many of those are human?
4
WhammyShimmyShammy Mar 27, 2026 +8
Even among the humans, how many are duplicates?
8
happilyfringe Mar 27, 2026 +6
Right? I have 5 accounts😂one for each of my personalities.
6
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +9
1.36 billion accounts. How many are human? Hard to say. Less and less?
9
jools4you Mar 27, 2026 +2
The last line you mention what you signed up for.
2
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +5
It started as 99% fake accounts...and it will probably end that way, too.
5
Bizzlebanger Mar 27, 2026 +2
Cool. I used to have a pretty low ICQ number.
2
Sujnirah Mar 27, 2026 +2
Not that karma really matters but just as an observation I’m shocked at how little you have considering how long you’ve been here
2
StrictlyRockers Mar 27, 2026 +3
I have enough internet points already.
