I love this show. I’m rewatching the original and It has such a cute story line. I could totally see the fun remake possibilities. A genie from thousands of years ago in today’s world. I can picture it now.

I remember it being suggested here before and the general response was that it wouldn't fly today because the idea of a female genie be "enslaved" by a male master was problematic. (I guess they couldn't wrap their brain around the idea of Jeannie learning freedom and independence as a series story arc but whatever...)

That’s exactly what I was going to say. Tony Nelson did technically give her freedom the first episode. They could run with it that she stays with him more out of necessity and shell shock from the modern world.

It could work if they acknowledge it as a problematic relationship. Dont romanticize it, and portray it realistically. Like Louis and Lestat from interview with the vampire.

I grew up watching it in India in the 90's. In Hindi she called him "owner", so I guess it could be worse.

Woman living in servitude of a man and then falling in love with him while he tries to make her hide her abilities? It doesn’t feel like a good vibe to modern times. They’d probably do what they often do and try flip the genders as if that makes it ok. They messed up a bewitched remake once already, don’t know how because that feels like such a simple concept

True. Didn’t they do it in a movie though? I think these classics would need a series to do it justice. look how well Sabrina the teenage witch did ….so a witch living in a mortal world theme definitely stayed relevant.

Yes!! They could have so much fun with it. It’s funny to watch it now with the limited things camera tricks could do with it. Now the possibilities are endless.

The problem with some of these iconic shows is that the casting was so spot on that while a reboot may be well done and all, filling some of these roles is virtually impossible. Maybe for a one-off it works, but you can’t remake I Love Lucy and shows like that.
