I feel like everything this past year has used AI

Posted by JJJ561

Like so many high tier shows this year and maybe past couples years have all had the same problems. Like right now im watching The Boys and I’m not that deep into it but already it feels off. Either AI or writers strike but yeah

I work in visual effects on a lot of the shows and movies you watch. From my vantage point AI isn’t being used in anything. Maybe it’s survivorship bias as I’m working on the things still being done with traditional vfx, but I’m networked all over the industry and have not gotten a whiff if AI becoming normal. The few studios who use it don’t use it broadly for production because of legality issues, they’re still using as R&D

Yall say everything you dont like is AI and since youre thinking about it so much you start to imagine things being wrong so it confirms your theory.

I saw a video recently where the guy said “AI ruined my favorite movie” and his thesis was that AI was trained on too much anime, so now his favorite anime that’s 10+ years old looks like AI to him and he can’t watch it anymore. Like…that sounds like a you problem, man.

This makes no sense.

I think that now, rather than an objective criticism and effective use of the technology in question, it's a social media buzzword and a major problem. How is it possible that in every single trailer, film, TV series, etc., they say "it looks like AI," even when that's obviously not true? I think it's more the "fear" of this technology being used. But if we proceed in this way it will seem indistinguishable even when it is perfectly distinguishable.

So what is AI to you? Juat because something has CGI doesn't mean and LLM was used. Also most videos tools LLMs use are available to humans, just takes longer. At a lot better quality

Back in the day we didn’t have AI to point fingers at when TV felt “off.” We’d just say “bad writing” or something.

People are so obsessed with the idea that everything generative AI produces is "bad" that they're very clearly losing the capacity to imagine that bad art is what most humans do naturally. "Good" art is, and always has been, the exception. By all means hate generative AI. But hate it simply because it's not a human doing it. Whether the art is good or not is entirely missing the point (and quite frankly the vast, vast majority of people having this conversation are ludicrously ignorant about art... it's like listening to toddlers explaining how to build a cold fusion generator and it's doing my f****** head in).

I kinda know what you mean about these last eps of The Boys.. there was something about the dialogue and how the scenes were constructed that felt quite meandering in a "hey chatgpt here is what is going to happen next, can you write this part of the script" way

Literally the opposite. Opinion, and not even an educated one.

I think AI has been used since COVID in one type or another.
