I just finished Étoile, and thought it was wonderful, and can't understand why Prime didn't appreciate what they had.

I understand that they exceeded the cost budget in season one, and it wasn't an immediate success, But that was extremely well made, and should have at least been a 'vanity project'. I'm an old white guy who's never been at all interested in ballet, but now I am, and got 8 hours of grooming, while I also watched some amazing dance, brilliant comedy, and sets/locales that were like watching a travelogue. It would be so cool to see that second season. The last two words in the final scene were 'We'll see", and I really would have liked to..

Loved it. Watched it again as soon as we finished it the first time. I really wanted to see Luke Kirby more.

It really pissed me off that the show was picked up for 2 seasons just to be canceled like a week after the first season finished The Palladinos have bad luck with Ballet shows apparently

I liked Etoile but I can see why it got cancelled. Primes other content is heavily Bosch, Ballard, Reacher and Neely focused.

I can see why it wasn’t given a chance by a wider audience (French title, ballet and barely any marketing) but I loved every second of it. I will miss Cheyenne saying damn near anything and it gave Luke Kirby a chance to shine even though it took a couple episodes to find Jack’s true voice.

I watched the whole thing and really wanted to like it, but it was tonally all over the place. They were given a virtually unlimited budget and then proceeded to do too much. Too many characters, too many tone shifts, too many storylines. It was like they wanted to squeeze every idea they ever had into the one season. And there was some content that was in really bad taste. Streamers care how many people finish a series (percentage) within the first X number of days/weeks. A small number of people started it, and then barely any of them finished it. Amazon realized that they could spend that second season budget on maybe five other new shows that people might watch.

It was such a well done show!

I liked it overall, but completely understand why it was dropped. It's very niche, a bit challenging for a lot of the casual viewing streaming audience, people are dumb and don't pay attention these days and having half your show in French is not going to work for that unfortunately large contingent. I had a lot of trouble with the main ballerina (I've forgotten her name by now), but most everything else I quite enjoyed. I came for Luke Kirby.

I loved it and am not even a particular fan of dance *or* the Palladinos.

The dancing in this show is beautiful! I could take or leave the story but would have loved another season for the dancing scenes alone. Prime has consistently been terrible at marketing their best content. If they'd done a better job, I'm sure this show could have found a big enough audience to justify it continuing.

They had no idea how to advertise something like this. It's easier for bad prime to advertise the one actor hero shows. Same reason the other commenter in this thread said it was 'tonally all over the place' I disagree but it's how other viewers see it.

I don't think it was tonally all over the place, I think it was location wise and that was a problem, too many characters that don't interact having separate plots.

All I cared about was the autistic choreographer and the lead dancer.

My wife and I (both avid Amy Sherman-Palladino fans) watched the first four episodes and simply could not get interested. I gave up; she reluctantly kept watching and by the end had fallen in love with the show. I think the season suffered from being a very slow burn. The Palladinos surely had a lot of good will at Amazon after Maisel, but there must have been a ton of viewer drop-off in those first few episodes and it couldn’t be sustained. It’s a shame.

I thought it was ok, not my favourite Palladino show.

I liked the show. I’m bummed that it has been cancelled. I must admit that I haven’t thought about it once since I finished watching season 1 though. I’d sort of forgotten it even existed.

I reluctantly started watching with my girlfriend a few months back and didn’t expect it to win me over. Was also surprised to see they weren’t giving it a second season. Some great performances among the cast.
