I know I’m in the minority too in thinking it was just fine. I enjoyed it, but I’ve never rewatched it and it definitely hasn’t really stuck with me

CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 15, 2026 +11
I think a lot of people felt the show was just fine, they just don't bother to comment on these threads like you and me haha. I'll probably watch it again at some point, and it introduced me to Cameron Britton who I've enjoyed in several other shows, but I think it falls into the "overrated by listnook" category. Worth noting that the same window of time had new episodes airing for Atlanta, Barry, The Americans, Glow, Westworld, Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Chernobyl, Fleabag, Sharp Objects, Snowfall, Better Call Saul, Ozark, Veep, and my personal favorite, Succession. There was a lot of good TV airing in that window.

i was just saying in another comment that i feel like a lot of good stuff was coming out around this time period so i feel like mindhunter didn’t get the recognition its finally getting.
-3
CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 15, 2026 +8
>i feel like mindhunter didn’t get the recognition its finally getting It was widely recognized as a good show while it was airing, by both critics and fans. Has consistently had strong ratings from both, and was nominated for multiple Emmys

letmebeyourgoddess Apr 16, 2026 -2
yes, because the show is good. but even if you look it up, it had low viewership when it first came out, only catering to a niche audience.
-2
CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 16, 2026 +3
There's no way to verify that, as Netflix doesn't reveal viewership numbers. That would be unprovable secondhand information at best. Don't use AI scraping listnook responses as a source.

For me I found the best part of S1 was the interviews but you can just go watch the real ones on YouTube.

It does feel like in this day and age, posting this once a month will actually get it produced

There’s always a search bar.
14
CrossoverEpisodeMeme Apr 15, 2026 +2
There's also a dedicated sublistnook for the show. But to your point, I've had people respond to my comments that were like 5 months old, it's a weird feeling knowing your thoughts made an impact on someone months later.
2
CapitalParallax Apr 15, 2026 -4
So someone else can b**** about thread necro?
-4
qtx Apr 15, 2026 +4
Literally no one complains about that. In fact it's one of the best things about listnook, and any general forum out there, the ability for people to react to something down the line. Just earlier today I was searching for a review on a thing and found a 3 year old listnook post about that very thing and people were still actively replying to people asking how that item has held up after all these years.
4
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 +1
why does it matter that much to you people ? jfc. i had a thought, i posted it. sorry i don’t scroll listnook all hours of the day. some of you guys need a life fr.
1
slapshots1515 Apr 15, 2026 +2
It’s a good rule, and one that many subs actually have listed, particularly help subs. It makes the sub more useful by not repeating the same discussion over and over. You don’t need to be scrolling Listnook all hours of the day to see this topic, it’s brought up quite frequently. I’m sure you didn’t mean anything by it, but it enhances the quality of a forum to not just have the same thing over and over.
2
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 -3
there are a million people on this earth. and so much worse things to police. it’s just listnook bro. just came on here to say i liked mindhunter 💔
-3
slapshots1515 Apr 15, 2026 +2
No one said there wasn’t worse things. No need to be so melodramatic about it. As you say, it’s just Listnook. I would expect you’ll keep hearing the same in most discussion forums on the whole internet though.

fr, i just started following this sublistnook

I loved mindhunter, fortunately serial killer/detective shows where the main guy has sociopathic tendencies are a pretty common formula. What I liked about mindhunters was that it seemed more real/based on reality!
21
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 +4
exactly. i loved that they had backstories for all the characters and it wasn’t just about FBI work and serial killers. it was all tied together so nicely.
4
Outrageous_Flower_42 Apr 15, 2026 +49
Man I was waiting for them to get into BTK storyline, they set it up perfectly and then just... nothing
49
Harkoncito Apr 15, 2026 +22
tbf, the BTK storyline wouldn't be resolved until 2005, they would need a big timejump for that.
22
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 +8
that’s what my boyfriend always said too, we always wondered how they would’ve pulled off the BTK timeline.
8
NlghtmanCometh Apr 16, 2026 +2
Yes but like, wtf was all of that about then?
2
FFTactics Apr 16, 2026 +6
The early ideas for the next season weren't focused around BTK, that wouldn't be solved in the show's timeline.
6
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 +7

What does COVID have to do with Mindhunter not having more seasons?
37
CromwellsBladder Apr 15, 2026 +23
I believe nothing. My recollection is the cancellation was made well-before the pandemic. I thought though, that lately there were some reasonably concrete moves to complete the series, no?
23
gh0u1 Apr 15, 2026 +2
I don't even think it got canceled, didn't Penhall say he had no plans for more seasons?
2
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 -28
this was kind of my assumption since nothing has been released since then
-28
orangewall1234 Apr 15, 2026 +28
Why are you assuming that when a simple Google search would've told you the reasons why there hasn't been another season?
28
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 -17
i was talking about how much i loved the show and wish there was more seasons in general. i wasn’t asking why it was canceled. i was just wondering if anybody else had felt this way. i mentioned that covid may have been part of the reason, simply because it was around 2019/2020 when it stopped. i originally wanted to make a post to say that we should start a petition to get another season but the moderators didn’t like “petition”.

bakedpatata Apr 15, 2026 +13
If only there were some kind of interconnected network of computers that could provide this information based on a simple text query.
13
duckwantbread Apr 15, 2026 +3
It was cancelled because Netflix wanted the budget to be lowered for Season 3 but Fincher wasn't willing to sign on under that condition.
3
ThomasVivaldi Apr 15, 2026 +6
It wasn't ever cancelled, and while budget was an issue, Fincher said that's not why he never came back to the show. He said in an interview that it was mainly because he got engrossed in too many other projects.
6
duckwantbread Apr 15, 2026 +7
That was the line used at the time by both sides but Fincher has since said in a [2023 interview](https://screenrant.com/mindhunter-season-3-cancelation-gets-in-depth-explanation-from-david-fincher/) that the real reason was because of budget disagreements. > We went as far as we could until someone finally said to us, 'It makes no sense to produce this series like this, unless you can reduce the budget, or make it more pop, so that more people will watch it.'" > "We did not want to change our approach so, respectfully, they told us that they were drawing a line under it.
7
SUBLIMEskillz Apr 15, 2026 +27
Mindhunter was cancelled because it was too costly to produce.
27
root_fifth_octave Apr 15, 2026 +15
You could tell they clipped its wings in the second season. It was a way more contained project. Sounds like Fincher ultimately had a larger vision than Netflix was willing to invest in, which is a shame. Maybe they could put something out in graphic novel form, like with Fight Club 2, haha :)
15
Toby_O_Notoby Apr 16, 2026 +10
Which is kinda on Fincher. There was a story that he had them take out the sidewalk ramps in post because the Americans with Disabilities Act hadn't been passed yet. That's a lot of money spent on something that 99.9% of the audience won't notice.
10
PetyrDayne Apr 15, 2026 +4
Everytime this is posted there's a different reason
4
flamingdonkey Apr 15, 2026 +2
I don't even think this is true either. AFAIK it was not actually officially canceled. It's just not being made.
2
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 -6
i feel like around that time so many good shows and movies were being produced so it kind of was one of those sleepers on netflix. or at least that’s been my personal experience with it, i didn’t watch it till years later.
-6
slapshots1515 Apr 15, 2026 +7
It was highly regarded at the time. I mean it had David Fincher leading the project, that alone was enough to get people’s attention. It reportedly drew pretty good audience numbers given the show’s subject matter and audience rating preclude a bunch of people from watching it. Like the person above said, it simply cost too much to produce to pretty much ever overcome the relatively limited scope of its audience. That, and Fincher was in demand for all sorts of other projects. There is still a small chance it comes back as movies.

OwlsintheWall Apr 15, 2026 +5
If you like Mindhunter, give the Hannibal show a shot. Iirc, the guy who wrote the book Mindhunter was the inspiration for one of the main characters in Hannibal, specifically Laurence Fishburn's character.
5
T-90AK Apr 15, 2026 +2
Hannibal became to artsy in the last season, though.
2
OwlsintheWall Apr 15, 2026 +3
Absolutely. To the point that it was distracting. Weird kaleidoscope camera shots, characters doing nonsense things, and turning a very capable character into the trope of 'i was hurt by a man, and now im a lesbian ' I was thinking about commenting something as a warning for season 3 then got in my head about recommending a show and then saying 'the first half of season 3 is rushed and downright ridiculous and then kind of picks back up.' I do still love the show
3
Shiverproof22 Apr 15, 2026 +3
Same, it hurts extra because it actually got better in season 2 instead of wobbling. I rewatch it once a year and then get mad all over again. Try the book yet?
3
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 15, 2026 +1
THERES A BOOK?!

I sometimes watch Zodiac and pretend it's a weird Mindhunter finale. My self-deception is pretty solid, though.

There will be. Maybe 10 years down the line. They’re going to finish that BTK storyline (and look up how long it took feds to track him down)

Cockrocker Apr 16, 2026 +3
I love Mindhunter. It's such a great show, top-tier and I'm happy with two seasons but obviously would have liked more, as long as Fincher was involved. I do not like the Mindhunter community. I left it's sub mostly because that show has revealed more toxicity towards women than any other show I have ever watched. The judgement on Deb and Wendy was just ridiculous and sexist, and I just found myself repeating things over and over in endless conversations. And then I left the sub, but still once every two months I get a message from somebody responding to a comment I made years ago. And they are always incredibly rude and ignorant. It really puts me in a bad mood, thinking that this is where people in the world are.
3
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 16, 2026 +1
which is crazy because i feel like deb and wendy weren’t even that crucial of characters, i feel like they were more in the background than everybody else. hell i feel like i saw nancy more. after posting on this sublistnook i have come to the conclusion that every community is toxic.
1
Cockrocker Apr 16, 2026 +2
Oh, don't start on Nancy! Wendy is like 3rd lead, pretty important. Especially in S2.

I just got to the point in Paradise where the dude that plays Ed Kemper showed up

a lot of the guys they got to play the serial killers on mindhunter were amazing actors.

The Ed Gein Monster show twisted the knife in my heart even more when I saw it, too.

I couldn't even get through the first episode lol It has this bar scene in it that may be the worst dialog I've ever seen in a TV show. I was in disbelief that people thought this show was good.
2
FLcitizen Apr 16, 2026 +1
again I’ll fight this, Mind Hunter did not move forward because David Fincher got bored and he takes f o r e v e r in post production with unnecessary cgi, youtube - Mind Hunter cgi
1
letmebeyourgoddess Apr 16, 2026 +1
ugh it sucks. i always just assumed it was because of covid. either way i would love to see it make a comeback.
1
Apprehensive_War173 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Yeah, that one still stings a bit. It felt like it was just getting deeper into its groove, especially with how slowly it was building the bigger picture. I still think about how they were setting up BTK in the background. It felt like it was going somewhere really unsettling in the long term.

John Douglas has written about 20 books including one called Mind Hunter. I read it over 20 years ago. It was pretty good from what I remember. Maybe reading all the cases in the book will scratch your itch. A quick Google search tells me that they did not cover all the cases that are in the book. Also, the book goes into more depth on each killer's personality, interviews.etc.
