I just watched (S)kids, a punk theme movie on YouTube about a new kid that goes to a new town and college, and that year of college is completely crazy, it has the animation, the music, the vibe, it was great. And then I remembered Dinner in America which I kinda felt the same way but not as strong as (S)Kids, so I'm looking for movies with the same punk teenager problems vibe, any good recommendation?
as well as the lesser known “Dudes”…same director (Penelope Spheris) as Suburbia

I watched SLC Punk! at the height of my goth/emo/punk phase in high school, but even on a rewatch a decade later when I'd (mostly) moved on, it's an incredible movie. Fantastic performances from the entire cast, a deeply emotional story, and just a sublime film all around with so many good messages.
The final scene still fucks me up. Probably the most realistic portrayal of >!someone reacting to a friend's death. Full-on, snotty ugly crying.!< I've ever seen on screen. Matthew Lillard is a gem of a human being. [What a great actor and humble person.](https://www.listnook.com/r/wholesomememes/s/EeHYkRNC0T)

The violence / death is handled in such a passive way that it makes it all hit so much harder. It's not drug out. A character just makes a wrong decision and is dead a few seconds later without any fanfare. The story just moves on and their no longer part of it

I watched it because it came up in a conversation on my movie podcast when talking about Weapons, and holy shit, what a film. Peak psychological horror. I've got to watch Blue Ruin, it immediately went on my list after this.
And hey, it also showcases Patrick Stewart's insane range. You've seen him as Picard and Hamlet, but have you ever seen him as the leader of a Neo-Nazi group? Incredible performances all around.
Also, RIP Anton Yelchin. He had an incredible career ahead of him. Gone too soon.

Came here to say Times Square. The ending is a little Disneyfied, but I love the whole movie. Tim Curry is delicious but sleazy. The whole city feels grimy actually. Love it to bits. It’s like a female Midnight Cowboy.

If you're not familiar with the history of the film, that ending feels Disneyfied because it's not the original ending. The director was fired and Producer Robert Stigwood made a lot of edits (and the ending was changed a bit). The cut footage has never been found :( Hopefully one day!

We Are The Best! is a Swedish movie about three young girls who start a punk band in the early 1980s despite everyone telling them 'punk is dead'. It's really fun, and based on an autobiographical graphic novel so it feels very authentic too.

Smithereens, starring Richard Hell, who was arguably the first punk, basically paying himself.
Pros: really captures the late 70s New York City vibe, how rundown in danger and fucked up it was.
