I think the start of the boys season 5 is lame

I hate what they’ve done to Kimiko’s character. Seems like a completely different person who also happens to share the exact same sense of humour and personality as everyone else in The Boys. Whedon-esque homogenization of character’s.

I thought last season was absolutely terrible, so this isn't very surprising. Not sure I'm going to watch.

Can you elaborate? Like what makes starlight more unlikable? What were you hoping for? You can’t just say it’s lame without a reason why you think so. Maybe your complaints are valid but it feels empty without an explanation.

just curious how they are going to end it now its gone in a different direction than the comic book. First season was good then it just turned boring with insane plot armour. First two episodes same old stuff and even looked bad guess they cut the budgets too now

Absolutely weird take to me lol. These have been the best and most exciting episodes to me in 3 seasons.

I think it's the best premiere since s1 honestly. But I'm not a huge fan of s2

It honestly feels like tumbler level fan fiction. The amount of cringe makes it unbearable.

I’m kinda in the opposite camp, but I get the “magic’s gone” feeling. Maybe let a few episodes stack and binge, the show usually builds slow-burn payoffs.

Both episodes were 10’s for me; fantastic utilisation of characters, proper stakes and it feels like the ball is actually rolling unlike the previous season

Yep. The writing and dialogue is so monotonous. Everyone is either some trite speech about hope, a gross or immature sex joke, or just... dull. The show has completely lost the sauce. It feels like every pay off "just happens." Probably because season 4 was spinning its wheels so hard that now it feels like nothing is set up. Not that this is a new issue, I mean the status quo reset once again this season with the Boys getting back together. Is this the 5th time? They do this at the start and end of every season lmao? Idk. Season 1 was quite good. I thought season 2 was trash. Season 3 was the peak of the show for me, though it just gave up on Hughie's arc in the 2nd or 3rd last episode and then started declining in quality until the finale. Season 4 was awful and should have been cut entirely. Season 5 seems better than season 4. At least the plot might finally start moving, even if it can only collapse to a halt.

It is mediocre but there is still significant progress from season 4 or gen v season 2

I thought the start of season 4 was lame and stopped watching right there.

I’ve enjoyed it so far but I do have my opinions. Whenever season 4 left off, it felt almost apocalyptic. Everyone getting rounded up, Butcher on the path towards no return and genocidal, Homelander taking over and instituting martial law and controlling the White House and the President etc etc. It felt like season 5 was about to be this super dark and damn near apocalyptic vibe to it. I figured we’d start the season with all the Boys split up, and Butcher out there on a supe murder spree now that he’s physically capable of doing so, down an even darker path than before, and he’d finally truly be the Butcher of supes. Yeah sure the boys are locked up but they’re all together and they all are fine and dandy, and Butcher was doing such things but we didn’t get to see much of it at all. And now they’re all back together again doing the typical Boys things like they never left. Idk, it’s good and I enjoy it so far, but I wish those things that happened at the end of season 4 lasted a little bit longer. I understand that they’re limited to 8 episodes and they have to move things along at a brisk pace, but still, would have been cool. Especially would have loved to see Butcher on his solo war path completely eviscerating supes while having his inner talks with Jeffery dean, but maybe we’ll get some of that later on. Idk, just my thoughts!

Definitely a step down in the writing. Now that she's speaking English, as someone else here noted, Kimiko seems like a different person. There's little nuance.

I’m enjoying but also glad that this is the last season.

Great start to season 5!

The new season begins by literally burning down what had been the greatest weapon for keeping Homelander at bay for four seasons: the plane video. A stunt so sloppy and hasty that it reminded me of the "glories" of Lost.

something is very off this season and only seen the first two episodes. it's like the sound of the actors voices and they're overall energy is all wrong. They have cool ideas like the mountain gooner guy and Ashley's voldemort , but the boys themselves homelander are just almost AI like this season. Kimicos voice especially.

I’m in the same boat as you. We all knew it was a political statement show with violence but a lot of the politics wasn’t so on the nose. Like obviously it’s about state of affairs but jumping into season 5 it’s almost too in your face. And I’m more liberal in my beliefs and hate the state of affairs but it was just cringe to watch. Sucks bc I wanna see the conclusion but don’t think I want to watch any more episodes of this

This entire series has been overrated slop ever since season 2  I don’t know why people still rate the show so highly.  At this point I just want to see how this all ends

I think its still pretty good/enjoyable. S1-S3 were alot better though. Last season was more about as much shock value as possible than anything else. First 2 episodes S5 were a bit better though, i hope they can end it on a high note
