I feel like the fact that the undercover cop was posing as a 15 year old is extremely relevant here.

Yeah, that changes everything. This isn’t just “messaging someone inappropriate,” it’s alleged grooming of a 15-year-old. Anyone yelling “entrapment” should actually read the warrant before defending this guy.

Who on earth would defend this guy other than his lawyer who is paid to do so?

Pedophiles. And in case you haven’t noticed, there’s quite a lot of them—particularly in positions of power—being exposed these days. It’s sickening. The mental gymnastics these “bUT tHeRe ArE nO vIcTiMs” crowd have is astounding.

I wonder why that wasn't in the headline... /s Media works for cops

Eew, the details of what he did. So disgusting. He complains it was a setup. Well, he fell for it from the start.

What do you expect? I mean he isn’t going to commend the UC for their superior acting skills.

meatball77 16 hr ago +5
That would be hilarious though. Yeah, I got caught, I'm sorry but wow the UC did such a great job.

He didn't "do" anything. An actual 15 year old would not continue a discussion like this

certciv 15 hr ago +37
His intent was clear. Are you claiming some kind of entrapment defense?

Reality-Umbulical 15 hr ago -71
The 15 year old didn't exist so not sure what his intent was. This is such an easy "crime" to detect vigilante groups message guys and catch them for YouTube channels. I honestly do think the cops and people pretending to be 15 year olds are just a weird as the guy who earnestly believes he's talking to one

certciv 15 hr ago +47
That's not how this works. He sent explicit pictures of himself to someone he believed was a 15 year old. When he texted "If you get pregnant by me, then I will marry you.", he thought he was making that promise to a 15 year old. That he was mistaken about the age of the recipient, and in fact was speaking to law enforcement has no bearing on his intent.

Reality-Umbulical 15 hr ago -66
Yes I understand that, but there was no 15 year old girl involved, so really nothing was done was it

_Mute_ 15 hr ago +42
Well that's a hell of a reason to be dismissive about it.

Reality-Umbulical 15 hr ago -21
Point I'm trying to make is inept guys like this would never be in a position to expose themselves because an actual 15 year old child wouldn't be stupid enough to chat to him. It's just a pointless arrest imo. Yes I understand this is not a popular viewpoint

Behemothheek 13 hr ago +33
>I understand this not popular viewpoint Yeah because it’s really bad one

😂😂 You're really jumping through hoops to excuse an adult making conscious and informed decisions.

SjenkieSjaak 9 hr ago +15
Why are you defending pedophiles?

sm1ttysm1t 7 hr ago +1
My guess is they've got similar tastes.

You keep falling back on an irrelevancy. He appears to have broken multiple laws, and will if convicted go to prison. But more than that, what he did was morally reprehensible. Do you think his actions are ethically defensible?
25
Reality-Umbulical 15 hr ago -11
He didn't do anything, there is no victim, this is not a good way to spend police resources.

You did not answer my question. Are you willing to?

He sent explicit material to someone he believed was underage, and traveled to meet with someone he believed to be underage. Is your argument that he should have raped a child first, causing unspeakable trauma, before he gets arrested? Both what I mentioned are crimes, by the way.  Do terroristic threats mean that no one should be punished because no one was actually hurt? Let them do the attack first? You realize that there are limits on speech, right?

Behemothheek 13 hr ago +15
I’m sure you’d love if less police resources were spent on catching predators, wouldn’t you?
15
HerrSticks 11 hr ago +13
Hey, you're technically right. In this specific circumstance there was no victim. His intent was obvious. Would you rather a teenager be raped? Trying to r*** isn't r***, so it's okey-dokey?

If I tried to hire a hitman to kill my wife and the hitman was an undercover cop, is that a crime since the hit wasn’t going to happen so there’s no victim? If I tried buying heroin from a dealer who was really an undercover cop, is that a crime because he wasn’t going to sell me any heroin anyways?
11
HerrSticks 11 hr ago +15
You seem to be having a hard time differentiating intent from action. If i intend on having someone killed, and exercise effort, but no one was actually murdered, that's still a crime.

Yeah go ahead and check this dude's devices.

He sent and solicited explicit images from someone he thought was a child. He absofuckinglutely did wrong.

Reality-Umbulical 14 hr ago -28
Who was the victim of this crime? Did the cops send him CP to continue the chat? Idk but this is not protecting children..an actual pedo would not be so stupid. He's a gross moron but nothing really happened here.

sm1ttysm1t 7 hr ago +1
His intent matters. His intent was to r*** a child.

People do not want their tax dollars paying for a cop that behaves like this. Maybe you disagree, but I believe we really need to hold police to higher standards.

Absolutely insane take. Congrats.

“It was a setup from the beginning.” I mean, yeah, that’s what a defense lawyer is going to try, but we’ve had over two decades of Chris Hansen busting folks with this exact same lay up.
26
Geth_ 8 hr ago +18
Bad example. You should really watch the *Predators* documentary if you care to know why Chris Hansen might be a good meme but is actually a poor example of effective and meaningful prosecution of actual chomo predators.

The fact that "undercover cop" details was left out of the headline is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.

moike986 7 hr ago +1
The title should be "cop accused of solicitation of a minor" not diminishing the crime he's "committed" POS thought he was texting someone underage, call it out for what it is

WalletFullOfSausage 9 hr ago
Oh, to add to the media frenzy, he’s a Vietnamese immigrant. Surely the Texas political media won’t run with that fact and blow it completely out of proportion, right?
0
Stamone 7 hr ago +1
What’s the actual crime then since the cop isn’t a minor?
