This guy being an Staff Sergeant (E6) at age 23 means that he has excelled as a soldier and this is how they treat him and his family?

At least the soldier will know that their spouse wont cheat while he’s touring… #/s Although the wife may get SAd in ICE camps though… #RAMBO 10? Would be great to see people oppose tyranny.

I've never visited USA, but seen these T-shirts saying "I'd rather be Russian than a Democrat"...  I'd have said you can attach a turbine to Reagan's corpse and it would provide infinite unlimited energy from him turning in his grave seeing GOP getting all mushy with Kremlin, but if he was to be resurrected, he might join MAGA.

Hell, last year we saw news of that texan family that left texas of all places because they felt that state was becoming too woke and they moved to russia with their three daughters. Then the father of that family was drafted into the Ukrainian war which russia started and hew as in the field. Some reports claimed he died in the field, but I believe he did return back to his family. However, I don't know if he got placed into the field again. Needlessly to say, there more than enough idiots that live in the United States that would move to russia because they feel that places would be better and putin would have no problem putting them in the war that he started.

Trump loves the military as an apparatus for killing people he doesn't like. Trump hates troops because he has to demean and belittle them to retroactively make his family history of draft-dodging cowardice seem twisted into acts of intelligence and cunning.

MAGA supporters are fine with sending troops off to die in pointless wars. What makes you think they are going to care about this guy and his wife?
36
EarthRester 4 days ago +4
It just goes to show the sheer stupidity of this administration. If we're willing to think like an abhorrent monster, we can understand that there is a measure of safety in f****** over troops by getting them needlessly hurt/killed. Because at least then you've likely neutralized the people that have been turned into trained killers. How is it...in ***ANY WAY*** a good idea to turn young (mostly men) into killers, then immediately make it clear to them that *YOU* are their greatest enemy by abducting their families? This is how you fuel an armed separatist movement!

armywalrus 4 days ago +6
If he enlisted at 17 then six years if service isn't abnormal for E6. Its not age.
6
Dabzilla_710_ 5 days ago +19
Doubtful. I can nearly guarantee he was waivered up and basically forced into studying for promo to E6. I never met a single E6 with 5 yrs in, regardless of background. They still did him dirty, just want to clarify how promotions work in the military; it's mostly ass kissing and NCOs that want your achievements on their record showing that THEY made it possible and how good they are and that's why you're good too.
19
SirWEM 4 days ago +24
It is still very possible i enlisted as E-4. Was bumped up from having college credits and a degree. If he didn’t screw up, did the required course work. For the promotion and got it good on him. Five years is enough time. My dad did it in 6. As far as what ICE did thats pretty fucked up.
24
TheRealHeroOf 4 days ago +8
The only 5 year e6s I've met were Navy nuclear techs. Very possible for them. Outside of that anything under 8 is uncommon.
8
armywalrus 4 days ago +7
In 2005, I was promoted to Staff Sergeant in 3 years.
7
fellatio-del-toro 4 days ago +3
E6 at age 23 is totally young. But that’s very rarely based on merit. Passing the promotion board can be tough, don’t get me wrong. But all I needed was to pass one event of the PT test to have double the points I needed to pin E6. Certainly wouldn’t need a waiver if he joined at 18.

America is about about to go through a reckoning. There's no going back to normal after this, even if the institutions are rebuilt. MAGA has declared themselves the only True Americans. Everyone else is an enemy to them. Peace is no longer an option.
166
quats555 5 days ago +106
And you know what? If they did indeed get rid of everybody else and it was only pure MAGA left, then they’d come up with some new standard that some MAGA couldn’t meet to define who is currently “people” and who are the new targets. This type *always* has to have an enemy.

That's how fascism/authoritarianism works. Leadership can never take responsibility for any faults/mistakes(which are bound to happen because 'loyalty' to the party/autocrat is the only true qualification, not any actual ability), or else people might start questioning them, so it all has to be blamed on whoever the manufactured 'outgroup' currently is.
53
matdan12 5 days ago +20
We've already seen how willing they are to throw people under the bus whenever there is a collosal stuff up. Just see Noem, Bolton and that army general Hegseth kicked to the curb. Loyalty doesn't mean anything, you're either in or out, everyone else to them are suckers and losers.
20

The only thing worse than how they were capriciously fired, is the fact they were ever nominated and confirmed to those positions to begin with.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature as far as the authoritarian leaders running the show are concerned. Particularly when they hit the point a few years in where they’ve implemented their program and persecuted minorities and/or implemented whatever economic system they favour (corporatism for fascists, communism for Stalinists, likely some flavour of kleptocracy for a lot of third world juntas and Trump). But there’s a problem (usually a whole bunch of them) - it becomes very hard to ignore by that point that reality stubbornly refuses to become the prosperous land of traditional values/sunlit uplands/workers paradise etc. that the ideology promised would happen. In fact often most people are *less* well off than they were. Does the authoritarian regime admit the ideology was wrong? Of course not. The problems can only be because of traitors/saboteurs/the enemy within. “The revolution cannot fail it can only be failed”. Right about this point such regimes often start stacking up bodies like cordwood even if they weren’t before. Naturally this doesn’t fix anything but it’s usually a useful distraction for the populace and makes most people too afraid to point out loud the discrepancies between reality and what was promised. Both of which make a counter revolution less likely which is all the leadership are actually worried about.

"[Let everyone who wishes the Republic to be safe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senatus_consultum_ultimum), come with me [to murder the problem people who apparently can't be stopped politically]." The Republicans seem to be wagering a hell of a lot on the assumption that they'll be the ones with the power indefinitely. I swear they're purposefully escalating things to the point where the only way to fix it will be to f****** murder them. Gaslight Obstruct Project Although they assassinated Caesar too, but that didn't stop what he put in motion :/

Unfortunately this isnt the first time and doesnt seem to be changing minds much as I just read today that a wife of a soldier was just released after spending 4 months in the concentration camps with 60 other women in a small room with zero privacy, little food and water and little medication for those in need. The wife was depressed obviously, after getting out but because she has a survivors guilt thing where she worries about the others while she got out. The government didnt even try and act sympathetic or anything and said they will continue to ensure anyone illegal (she was legally here and married) was sent home and that if they didnt want to spend months in inhumane conditions in a concentration camp they should use the government app, turn themselves in and get deported. Of course the people who have done that get sent to these same camps for 6+ months as its all a money making scheme and transfer of taxpayers money to the select few as the 2 companies holding the around 100,000 immigrants gets $15 MILLION a DAY to hold them.
48
BodybuilderMany6942 5 days ago +10
Well see, the issue is the people who are still MAGA are the types that dont change/care unless things hurt **them**, and a certain fraction actually care what happens to friends/family. Perhaps this soldier isnt MAGA, but maybe they have a friend or family member that are. For each person ICE fucks, there is potential for at least one MAGA to be shaken or even turn.
10
unclecaveman1 5 days ago +20

Nothing is gonna happen. Majority of people are pacified by the lifestyle, there aren't gonna be many willing to sacrifice a generally comfortable life to fight for what's right. I confidently say this from a perspective of someone protesting a very similar type of rulership for a year and a half. And our standards of living are waaaay worse. Still, i see many people turning a blind eye on all the corruption (that started taking lives btw) just because they are secure.

It wasn't just Obama. Military service as a valid path to citizenship has been offered before. It comes and goes based on the needs of the military. When they get desperate for numbers, like they did when we were in both Iraq and Afghanistan without the draft, they bring it back.

Go after hardened criminals and risk not getting that bonus that doesn't pay out until after 5 years or go arrest peaceful civilians contribting to society. ICE in its current version is an example of what happens when mercenaries become government employees and are expected to make an arrest/detainment quota every month. DOGE is everywhere. ICE detainment quotas were numbers a DOGE/DHS creation based on a mystery formula. Doesn't matter if it's a 3 month old and the child's mother, a 6 year old and his father coming home from school or the spouse of a US military member being shipped out. They all help make monthly quota. Drug lords, their drivers, gun runners? Oh Hell No, that's difficult dangerous work. Pay no attention to that "Worst of the worst" blather when there are folks just going about their lives or looking for work who can be picked up, held without hearings, shipped to holding camps multiple states away and incarcerated for months while families searched h for them. Welcome to 1930's Germany in 2026 United States of America.

They weren't out there for systematic quotas back then. Being SA meant a lot of privileges but no payment in the lower ranks. The legal German was safe from the SA when they were not resisting the system or being a socialist or worse, a communist. They were more on the political fight with brawling communists during election rallies and of course persecuting Jewish people after taking over the power 1933. The SA men were also full of hate for different looking people and they were assisting the police after 1933 in detaining them. The similarities to a certain current organisation is striking.

The troops are getting it on both ends: the Sec Def is as much a white supremacist as he is a misogynist and ICE have basically adopted the mantra "If ya ain't white, you ain't right". Tangentially related: f*** anyone who voted for this shit show, you're a f****** Nazi. To anyone who thought soap boxes and temper tantrums were the path forward, you're collaborators and can get fucked too.

If you want a soldier to sabotage an important mission, that's probably a great way to encourage them to lose all loyalty to the country.

This is what the troops can expect. Trump is going to use you up and break you into pieces. I hope she’s not pregnant yet. I also hope she’s not with one of the groups of ICE members that have been sexually abusing young female detainees. It’s a thing, and nobody’s doing a single thing about it. Once she gets out, I sure hope she’s and her husband speak out about this.

The U.S. military is complicit. Otherwise there would have been a coup month ago to reinstate a non corrupt government or a "better" junta.

For anyone who didn't make it until the end, this might very well be the most sickening part: > On Saturday, he and his mother traveled to the detention center in Basile, La. with the completed form to apply for Ms. Ramos’s green card. It only needed her signature. > Guards barred them from bringing anything inside.

His wife entered the US as a toddler. But before that she was a hardened criminal. ICE knows what it’s doing.

So basically it was the attendant at the base's visitor center and some higher up at the base that called ICE. That's fucked up.

rabbit994 5 days ago +16
This isn't first time this has happened with Trump in office, it's been policy for months now. Military has been instructed to following policy which technically bars anyone without legal status from military base and orders them to contact ICE. It's a shame his lawyer or someone in his chain of command didn't tell him, "Keep her away from base until paperwork is properly shuffled."
16
Decent_Flow140 4 days ago +5
It sounds like their lawyer wasn’t super up to date on what’s been going on. She told them how things normally go without mentioning that ICE has detained quite a number of people lately who were doing things the customary way.
5
sillylittlguy 4 days ago +2
and didn't get her signature asap for the green card application. kinda seems like their lawyer sucks (not trying to minimize or deflect evil of us admin ice etc)
2
Decent_Flow140 4 days ago +3
Yeah this is definitely on ICE but still. I’ve been reading news articles for months now of this kind of shit happening and immigration lawyers saying this is not how it’s ever been, they’re changing the whole process, they’re deporting people who normally would be given their green card no problem, etc etc. Which is terrible, but at this point if I, a random person with no involvement, am aware that it’s happening I feel like an immigration lawyer certainly should be.  It sucks for them though. When you hire a lawyer, especially one who specializes in what you need them for, you expect to be able to trust what they’re telling you.

Just_another_grumble 5 days ago +4
this Agency and lack of due process is another symptom of US's slide into Fascism.   Completely disassemble them, airport theater, and homelanders.   As long as the voting is representative enough with jerrymandered districts, the voters and electoral college picked what America deserves at that moment.  As if the insider trading politicians and their ultra wealthy backers care about the common good.

Trump's record on military and vets • Only 1 Trump in America has served in the military (Fred Trump, Don's brother, served in the Air National Guard); this spans 5 generations, and every branch of the family tree. In fact, the reason his grandfather immigrated to America was to avoid military service. • Children of deployed US troops will no longer get automatic American citizenship if born overseas during deployment. This includes US troops posted abroad for years at a time (August 28, 2019) • On August 2, 2019, Trump requisitioned military retirement funds towards border wall • On July 31, 2019, Trump ordered the Navy rescind medals to prosecutors who were prosecuting war criminals • In July 2019, Trump denied a United States Marine of 6 years entry into the United States for his scheduled citizenship interview (Reported July 17, 2019) • Trump made the U.S. Navy Blue Angels violate ethics rules by having them fly at his July 4th political campaign (July 4, 2019) • Trump demanded US military chiefs stand next to him at 4th of July parade (reported July 2, 2019) • In June, 2019, Trump sent troops to the border to paint the fence for a better "aesthetic appearance" (June 7, 2019) • Trump used his D-Day interview at a cemetery commemorating fallen US soldiers to attack a Vietnam veteran (June 6, 2019) • Trump started his D-Day commemoration speech by attacking a private citizen (Bette Midler, of all people) (reported on June 4th, 2019) • Trump made his 2nd wife, Marla Maples, sign a prenup that would have cut off all child support if Tiffany joined the military (reported on June 4th, 2019) • On May 27, 2019, Trump turned away US military from his Memorial Day speech because they were from the destroyer USS John S. McCain • Trump ordered the USS John McCain out of sight during his visit to Japan (May 15, 2019). The ship's name was subsequently covered. (May 27, 2019) • Trump pardoned war criminals (May, 2019) • Trump purged 200,000 veterans healthcare applications (due to known administrative errors within VA’s enrollment process and enrollment system) (reported on May 13, 2019) • Trump deported a spouse of fallen Army soldier killed in Afghanistan, leaving their daughter parentless (April 16, 2019) • On March 20, 2019, Trump complained that a deceased war hero didn't thank him for his funeral • He refused to sign his party's funding bill, which shut down the government, and forced a branch of the military to go without pay. This branch of military was forced to work without pay, otherwise they would be AWOL. However, his appointees got a $10,000 pay raise (Dec 22, 2018 – Jan 25, 2019) • He didn't pay the Coast Guard, forcing service members to rely on food pantries (Jan 23, 2019) • He banned service members from serving based on gender identity (Jan 22, 2019) • He denied female troops access to birth control to limit sexual activity (on-going. Published Jan 18, 2019) • He tried to deport a marine vet who is a U.S.-born citizen (Jan 16, 2019) • When a man was caught swindling veterans pensions for high-interest “cash advances," Trump's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau fined him $1. As a reminder, the Trump administration's goal was to dismantle the CFPB, installing Mick Mulvaney as the director, who publicly stated the bureau should be disbanded. (Jan 26, 2019) • He called a retired general a 'dog' with a 'big, dumb mouth' (Jan 1, 2019) • He increased privatization of the VA, leading to longer waits and higher taxpayer cost (2018) • He finally visited troops 2 years after taking office, but only after 154 vacation days at his properties (Dec 26, 2018) • He revealed a covert Seal Team 5 deployment, including names and faces, on Twitter during his visit to Iraq (Dec 26, 2018) • Trump lied to deployed troops that he gave them a 10% raise. He didn't give them a 10% raise (Dec 26, 2018). He initially tried to give the military a raise that was lower than the standard living adjustment. This was before Congress told him that idea wasn't going to work. Then after giving them the raise that Congress made him, he lied about it pretending that it was larger than Obama's. It wasn't. • He fired service members living with HIV just before the 2018 holidays (Dec 19, 2018-present) • He tried to slash disability and unemployment benefits for Veterans to $0, and eliminate the unemployability extrascheduler rating (Dec 17, 2018) • He got three Mar-a-Lago guests to run the VA (unknown start - present, made well-known in 2018) • He called troops on Thanksgiving and told them he's most thankful for himself (Thanksgiving, 2018) • He urged Florida to not count deployed military votes (Nov 12, 2018) • While in Europe commemorating the end of WWI, he didn't attend the ceremony at a US cemetery due to the rain - but other world leaders went anyway (Nov 10, 2018) • He used troops as a political prop by sending them on a phantom mission to the border and made them miss Thanksgiving with their families (Oct-Dec, 2018) • He stopped using troops as a political prop immediately after the election. However, the troops remained in muddy camps on the border (Nov 7, 2018) • Trump changed the GI Bill through his Forever GI Act, causing the VA to miss veteran benefits, including housing allowances. This caused many veterans to run out of food and rent. “You can count on us to serve, but we can’t count on the VA to make a deadline,” one veteran said. (reported October 7, 2018) • Trump doubled the rejection rate for veterans requesting family deportation protections (July 5, 2018) • Trump deported active-duty spouses (11,800 military families face this problem as of April 2018) • He forgot a fallen soldier's name (below) during a call to his pregnant widow, then attacked her the next day (Oct 23-24, 2017) • He sent commandos into an ambush due to a lack of intel, and sends contractors to pick them up, resulting in a commando being left behind, tortured, and executed. (Trump approved the mission because Bannon told him Obama didn't have the guts to do it) (Oct 4, 2017) • He blocked a veteran group on Twitter (June 2017) • He ordered the discharge of active-duty immigrant troops with good records (2017-present) • He deported veterans (2017-present) • He said he knows more about ISIS than American generals (Oct 2016) • He said vets get PTSD because they aren't strong (Oct 3, 2016) (note: yes, he said it's 'because they aren't strong.' He didn't say it's 'because they're weak.' This distinction is important because of Snopes) • Trump accepted a Purple Heart from a fan at one of his rallies and said: “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.” (Aug 2, 2016) • Trump attacks Gold Star families - Myeshia Johnson--gold star widow, Khan family--gold star parents, etc. (2016-present) • Trump sent funds raised from a January 2016 veterans benefit to the Donald J Trump Foundation instead of veterans charities (the foundation has since been ordered shut because of fraud) (Jan, 2016) • Trump said "I felt that I was in the military in the true sense because I dealt with those people" because he went to a military-style academy and that he has "more training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military". (2015 biography) • For a decade, Trump sought to kick veterans off of Fifth Avenue because he found them unsightly nuisances outside of Trump Tower. “While disabled veterans should be given every opportunity to earn a living, is it fair to do so to the detriment of the city as a whole or its tax paying citizens and businesses?” - 1991 • Trump dodged the draft 5 times by having a doctor diagnose him with bone spurs.

This feels less like a communication failure and more like the predictable result of current policy. Enforcement has been expanded pretty aggressively, and with fewer “off-limits” spaces, situations like this were bound to happen sooner or later. Telling him to “keep her away” doesn’t really fix the bigger issue.
