Send your enemies to war. If they lose, they're dead and you don't have to worry about them. If they win, great, they furthered your cause and you can always have them "commit suicide" from the horrors of war.

Seems like a stupid plan tho because the majority of people that get drafted are just gonna flee before they even get picked up for the draft. And even if they do make it over seas, they’ll just flee there instead. It happened in the Vietnam war and that’s why they don’t do the draft anymore

If the masses start to turn on him relative to ICE, service members with family that is being / has been deported will be the first defectors in the service - which would leak into sympathetic service members next and could crumble a large chunk (even a majority) of his support within the ranks.

During the revolutionary war the first US congress actually voted AGAINST funding the revolutionary army through the brutal harsh winter.
Meaning they defacto attempted to sentence to death their own army fighting for them.
Thankfully however, guess who stepped in with a huge armada of supplies, and also took out British naval vessels on the coast during that war?
France!
Later in history, France was still so proud that they had helped us achieve independence that they then gave us the Statue of Liberty.
And now look at what Americans say about France. Pretty big slap and spit to the face of our greatest ally in the history of the USA.
No good deed goes unpunished I guess. So ya, I mean I guess history is just repeating itself this year: America continuing the long standing tradition of slapping and spitting in the face of all of our allies, and also treating their service men and women like utter cr @ p. We did this behavior right from the very beginning of the foundation of our nation.

Yeah, these are easy ways to pump numbers. It turns out, Miller, Trump, ICE, Noem, they all realized that deporting drug dealers is actually really really difficult and Obama, Trump1, and Biden were already all doing that. So to pump the numbers, they need to go after "the good ones".
So they've been going door to door, attacking people at known hangouts, and now, going after those who married in. Because all they want is to add +1 to those they've arrested and deported. They need the number bigger. They need to have a giant number to point too and say, "look how many criminal illegals we've carved out of the country!" and the details don't matter.

The thing is, the military isn't loyal to solely the people in the administration personally. Ice is much more a personal occupying force than the military is.
Just like the SA and SS were loyal to the Nazi party itself, not the country of Germany. The IRGC only answers to the Ayatollah and is separate from their traditional military bodies. Just like the Chinese military is actually the military of the Chinese Communist party, not the country of China in and of itself.
Republicans don't want neutral organizations in the country, they want to bend and break every institution to their control alone.

Yeah, but those were all against *brown people*.
But in all seriousness, deployment against US citizens, on US soil, is a different line for the US military. Kent State is the Original Sin of the modern US military, they’ve been drilled *hard* against something like that happening again. They have *not* however, been drilled against doing stuff like Venezuela or what’s happening in Iran.
Military deployment against US citizens has been ingrained as being antithetical to the core of what the institution exists as. And while highly-educated top brass may have been very well aware of how *disastrous* these actions on Iran would be, following imbecilic orders is not antithetical to their existence.
If the MAGA regime believes they will eventually need to deploy the military to maintain domestic control, they *must* figure out how to do it without getting the military to buck their orders, or perhaps even coup if the orders were drastic enough. They know that what they are planning as they work their way down this road will cause uprisings that put 2020 to shame, and they also know that if they are to succeed, they can’t have the military refusing enforcement orders like they did back then.
Advanced, institutionally-developed militaries are very difficult to purge, especially on any kind of a short runway. Hegseth has been working furiously to gut the officer corps of anyone not blindly loyal to the regime, and moves like this one with the incoming crops of marines are designed to start weeding out soldiers they don’t see as being “homegrown“. The Marines existing as “the tip of the spear“ make them the logical choice for the branch to start purging first.
45
S-ludinMar 31, 2026

I feel like the use of marines in LA and DC cross that line. anyone paying attention knows those orders were meant to subdue the people with a show of military force. roll some equipment in, get the people on alert and worried for themselves. just like what happened in Nashville at the no kings protest.

46

Issue with that comparison is that the SS were somewhat competent. They weren't nearly the supermen they pretended they were but they had there own standing army with tanks and artillery and their own airforce and navy and logistics and etc etc. They were a legitimate military force larger and better funded then many other countries regular armies at the time and was made up of people who either had been or actively were in combat.
ICE, even with the massive budget they got, is nothing compared to any branch of the US military. Even the coast guard would kick their overweight butts. Hell, many larger police forces would probably be too much for them if it came to it. They are untrained, incompetent cowards. So pissing off the people who actually know how to fight in favor of these losers is not a strategy for success by any means.
25
petemuir1959Mar 31, 2026
+19
Yes, ICE should not be compared to the SS or the Gestapo. Both were, unfortunately for many, professionally run organizations that were part of the Nazi regime. They were monster-ly effective in what they did. A more apt comparison would be with the SA, (Sturmabteilung, “Brownshirts") a group originally containing members who were basically street thugs. They were so inept and incompetent, they were considered a threat to the Nazi Party and their leaders were all killed during during Operation Hummingbird, which later became known as “The Night of the Long Knives.”

It's also worth noting that fascism is also just really stupid. One of Alan Moore's complaints with the *V For Vendetta* film script (he did not see the film) was that it treated fascism with too much respect. He said that fascism projects the image of efficiency (ex. I continue to feel the US historical treatment of Fascism has done such a huge disservice to Americans and our psyche.
It fostered this image of Fascism as this well put together machine of oppression and 11D Chess maneuvers when in reality it is a Reactionary movement that thrives on chaos, grievance, theatrical violence, and the constant manufacture of enemies.
It is often sloppy, contradictory, and embarrassingly mediocre at the operational level. Held together by paranoia, spite, cronyism, and people who confuse impulse for strategy. And even stupid people can keep it going when the machinery they are allowed to operate is powerful enough, competent enough at the functionary level, and backed by capital, the state, and a public trained to mistake cruelty for strength.

I really don’t understand why more ICE agents aren’t arrested. Let the justice system sort them out.
If you can’t arrest federal agents doing their jobs (which is the excuse they use), then at the very least you can force them to identify themselves.
They should verify that they aren’t just random vigilantes who are impersonating ICE (of which there have already been many cases).

A girl I knew went into the army after graduating because her dad is undocumented and apparently it's easier or faster to go through the process if you have a family member in the military. Or at least, it used to be. Now I guess they just use it as another avenue to arrest people who have lived here for decades

They got quotas to fill, and 'violent criminals' take too long to apprehend, so they're going for the low-hanging fruit: the people who are trying to follow the rules and get their papers through proper channels.

To me, that's the great lie about the long standing retort of *"no, no, no, I'm okay with immigrants as long as they go through the proper processed!!!"*...
Yet they cheer and celebrate when people are getting snatched into vans before they're able to step into the building for their swearing in sessions....

My nephews did that, both of them joined the Air Force so that their parents could adjust their legal status without having to leave the country during the process. How sick is it that they wouldn't have been able to go to their kids graduation for fear of being arrested and having the sacrifice their kids did be for nothing. Every day we reach a new low.

It helps by promoting and maintaining a hierarchical society, which is literally the dictionary definition of [conservatism](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/conservatism): a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, **stressing the importance of established hierarchies and institutions** (such as religion, the family, and **class structure**), and preferring gradual development to abrupt change.
The *sole* value of conservatism is respect for and obedience to \[one's perception of\] traditionally established hierarchy, and hierarchy dictates that those on top (in-groups) are rightfully idolized and receive privileges, credibility, and resources, while those on the bottom (out-groups) are demonized/dehumanized and/or bound by restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources.
To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those \[they perceive to be\] on top \[of social hierarchy\] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top.
Conservatives absolutely need an underclass \[for society\] to demonize and dehumanize in order to maintain \[their\] hierarchy, and every single one of their policies and rhetoric work to do exactly that. While "know your place" is their mantra, each and every single one of them truly believe that they are among the in-group, and so long as they continue to participate in the demonization/dehumanization of an out-group will their own place be secure. They never realize that security is a privilege far above their station until it's too late.

What might be more chilling here is that the Trump administration might not be lying when they say that ICE is not being sent there for immigration enforcement. We've long known that ICE is turning into Trump's private paramilitary force -- like some twisted combination of the Brown Shirts and the Gestapo. And when a corrupt dictator has a private paramilitary force, he uses it for everything -- including here apparently providing security for our actual military. The constantly expanding role of ICE isn't accidental; it's part of replacing our security and military functions with a force fiercely loyal to Trump

Who was glad US Marine Robert Muller died this year. Attacked Gold Star Family. Mocked military members with PSTD saying they just aren't strong enough and mocked wounded military veterans saying no one wants to be sees with that.
