The stronger ICE is compared to other military forces in the US, the easier it will be to sideline the one's that might not be loyal.

Japanese soldiers did it in WW2. They were off fighting in Europe with the 442nd Infantry Regiment while many of their families were in internment camps. They want to shit on a group while also make them take a loyalty test to the US by going and fighting for it.

The US betraying its servicemembers is a hallowed America tradition, going back to George Washington disbanding the continental army before paying them. The bonus army, Vietnam vets, it goes on and on.

Yeah, these are easy ways to pump numbers. It turns out, Miller, Trump, ICE, Noem, they all realized that deporting drug dealers is actually really really difficult and Obama, Trump1, and Biden were already all doing that. So to pump the numbers, they need to go after "the good ones". So they've been going door to door, attacking people at known hangouts, and now, going after those who married in. Because all they want is to add +1 to those they've arrested and deported. They need the number bigger. They need to have a giant number to point too and say, "look how many criminal illegals we've carved out of the country!" and the details don't matter.

These guys are fresh out of boot, so…not really? So more likely targeting parents in this case.

The thing is, the military isn't loyal to solely the people in the administration personally. Ice is much more a personal occupying force than the military is. Just like the SA and SS were loyal to the Nazi party itself, not the country of Germany. The IRGC only answers to the Ayatollah and is separate from their traditional military bodies. Just like the Chinese military is actually the military of the Chinese Communist party, not the country of China in and of itself. Republicans don't want neutral organizations in the country, they want to bend and break every institution to their control alone.

Yes, and I'm very, very glad they're making the mistake. The Trump admin pissing off the military is a shining life raft we can cling to. It would be so, so bad if they loved him. Enough did at one point that I was really scared. But he's giving them the middle finger at every chance.

In MAGA ideology the military are *suckers and losers*. As King Donald also said, "I don't get it. What's in it for them?" ICE are the superior service - they get to fence their victims' mobile phones.

Most dictatorships are built out of the military, with the dictators coming from the officer corps. This crop of hellspawns despises the military and everything it represents in the American culture and psychology (not that I think the jingoistic militarism of the US is healthy). They’re more like the USSR’s central committee except more vile and less competent.

One of Alan Moore's complaints with the *V For Vendetta* film script (he did not see the film) was that it treated fascism with too much respect. He said that fascism projects the image of efficiency (ex. "the trains run on time"), but are in actually woefully inefficient as critical government services are run by incompetent loyalists (ex. the trains never did actually run on time).

They're setting this up so that a person of color veteran goes on a rampage, which they can use as ammunition to either bar that group from serving in the future, or use it to sow even more hatred towards that community and essentially eliminating that path to citizenship for immigrants.

I really don’t understand why more ICE agents aren’t arrested. Let the justice system sort them out. If you can’t arrest federal agents doing their jobs (which is the excuse they use), then at the very least you can force them to identify themselves. They should verify that they aren’t just random vigilantes who are impersonating ICE (of which there have already been many cases).

They got quotas to fill, and 'violent criminals' take too long to apprehend, so they're going for the low-hanging fruit: the people who are trying to follow the rules and get their papers through proper channels.

My nephews did that, both of them joined the Air Force so that their parents could adjust their legal status without having to leave the country during the process. How sick is it that they wouldn't have been able to go to their kids graduation for fear of being arrested and having the sacrifice their kids did be for nothing. Every day we reach a new low.

I was in the Marines with a guy who left one of our training operations to go take his citizenship test. I was like wait you can be a Marine and not be a citizen?

Hispanic/Latinos make up about 20% of the Marines. Most of us want Hispanics and Latinos to live here. It’s too late to de-integrate. These cowards were born too late to be bonafide racists, and they’re kicking and screaming about it.

To them, the second-greatest injustice imaginable is for those \[they perceive to be\] on top \[of social hierarchy\] to be bound by the restrictions, scrutiny, and lack of resources reserved for those on the bottom. The first greatest injustice is for those on the bottom to have access to the rights, credibility, and resources reserved for those on top. Conservatives absolutely need an underclass \[for society\] to demonize and dehumanize in order to maintain \[their\] hierarchy, and every single one of their policies and rhetoric work to do exactly that. While "know your place" is their mantra, each and every single one of them truly believe that they are among the in-group, and so long as they continue to participate in the demonization/dehumanization of an out-group will their own place be secure. They never realize that security is a privilege far above their station until it's too late.
