How can you tell it's not real?  I'm asking out of genuine curiosity because I don't know anything about Cowichan knitting beyond the two minute google search I just did, and I would like to know more.

Real Cowichan sweaters are protected under the law in Canada, IIRC. It’s a shame they didn’t work with the tribe to have him wear an actual Cowichan sweater. Ryan being Canadian himself would’ve made it a more impactful statement.
