'Let's keep up the "Rocket here/rocket there" strategy. Full on war didn't do it, but sooner or later, surely this way will bring about the Islamic State control over Israel, despite all the failed attempts of the last 30-40 years.' *The sunk cost fallacy, extremist Muslim edition*

as long as israel keeps “mowing the grass,” there will be militants there to fight back.

So you're saying stronger measures are needed? Bit extreme, but sure, should work

There was quiet between Israel and Lebanon for like 20 years until Oct 2023 when Hezbollah started firing missiles at northern Israeli villages. So if Israel *doesn't* "mow the grass", the militants will still be there and ready to start attacking Israeli civilians any time.

You’re correct! The only winning strategy is to let terrorists reign free! How can that go wrong?

People seem to think if you just leave them be they'll disband and stop being terrorists and no longer feel the need recruit. Afghanistan will be terrorist free any day now, now that the west isn't meddling anymore. You'll see! /s

I read weeks back that Lebanon had activated their domestic military and were hunting down Hezbollah fighters within their borders. That's great and all but why hasn't the Lebanese military pushed their troops into South Lebanon to catch Hezbollah on both sides? Greenlight the IDF to invade from the front, push up against them from inside Lebanon and sandwich the fuckers.

If the Lebanese forces actually start going after Hezbollah fighters they will immediately begin a civil war. A large portion of Shia still support Hezbollah and see them as necessary for their survival.

You can't have a group inside of your own borders with their own military who doesn't recognize the authority of the state. That cannot work. Hezbollah doesn't answer to anyone except Iranian leadership. They are a foreign run military group occupying Lebanese soil. This means that at any point in time, Hezbollah would be able to start a war against the Israelis without the approval of Lebanon itself. That can't work. You can't look at that situation and then pretend a civil war isn't already happening because a foreign entity has occupied Lebanese soil. They were so paranoid about the Israelis that they let a Shia military force take over South Lebanon and use it as a staging ground for warfare. If anything is causing a civil war, it's that.

you are 100% but this is not how the shiaa community see it, you need to understand that they went under literal brainwash for decades to think that without Hezb Israel will invade and take southern lebanon and now they see what is happening and saying "see? we told you they will invade Lebanon" and the thought that Israel invaded is to stop the barrage of rockets coming from them never crosses their mind.

Then the Shia need to get over it. You're arguing this like it's entirely reasonable for an independent third party to be armed with a military force STRONGER than the Lebanese military. On top of that you're arguing it's reasonable for them to have weapons aimed directly at their neighbors. Your paranoia does not validate making active threats. If the Israelis set up war ships along Lebanon's coast and said "It's just for our need to feel safe" nobody would be entertaining that nonsense. Even the United Nations who have nothing good to say about Israel have called for Hezbollah to disarm because they see the writing on the wall.

They’re not saying it’s reasonable.  They’re saying it is.  As in: It’s simply a fact.  Hezbollah exist, they’re arguably stronger than the Lebanese military, they don’t obey the Lebanese government. Since that’s true, the rest of Lebanon has to be careful.  It’s easier for them to let Israel be the bad guy. And wiser.  Israel will eventually leave, which’ll give some space for tensions to die down.  Non-Hezb Lebanese can’t do that … they have to live with the Hezbollah supporters (even if Hezb itself is crushed, there’s a chunk of civilian supporters who are going to be left).  And there’s no support (on any side) for another civil war.

Lebanese government policy is to keep kicking the can down the road. No onein the government is willing to address Hezbollah problem once and for all.

Lebanon really feels like a failed state wearing a functioning state trench coat.

The actual government of Lebanon is Hezbollah. The Beirut government is allowed to play make believe for political reasons. They would be brushed away in days if Hezbollah wanted them gone.

People don’t read history. Lebanon civil war was brutal.

Quick edit for clarity, I believe you are referring to the Lebanese army, which is a separate entity from the Christian militia group known as the Lebanese Forces.

[https://www.thebeiruter.com/article/lebanon-cracks-down-on-irgc-and-hezbollah-activities/1245](https://www.thebeiruter.com/article/lebanon-cracks-down-on-irgc-and-hezbollah-activities/1245) "Lebanon’s government has taken a major step aimed at reshaping the country’s security landscape by banning all activity by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on Lebanese territory. The decision also includes measures to detain and deport members of the Iranian force if found operating in the country."

yeah, wait and see it they are actually going to do this in a sufficient scale that it matters. Hezbolah is so deeply entrenched into lebanese society, including in the government, i dont see it hapenning without the hezb fighting back. we'll see.

Where'd you read that? Lebanon has talked a bit about it, but hasn't lifted a finger against Hezbollah.

Piggywonkle 3 days ago +3
It's a million times easier for the rest of Lebanon to just use Israel as a scapegoat, rather than deal with Hezbollah themselves by restarting the civil war. There are also both good (e.g. Suez Crisis) and bad (e.g. widespread antisemitism) reasons for Lebanon to wary of cooperation with Israel. If you haven't read about the [South Lebanon Army](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Lebanon_Army), that's essentially what cooperation between Israel and Lebanon has looked like at best, which is to say, very little cooperation at all.

Ignoring literal decades of history where all Israel wanted and asked for was to be left alone. But their extremist neighbors wouldn’t or couldn’t stop.
