You have to see him, but you get that great view of WATCHING HIM LEAVE. And not knowing your situation but being a mom myself, anything that gave me my son would be worth repeating again just to be his momma. (Granted I’m saying that from a safe marriage).
Love you momma, your kid is lucky to have you!

You don't know what you don't know, and we rarely think exes are a reliable source, even if we should (edited here because an excellent point was made downthread about how exes are often our best source of information.) You did the best you knew how to at the time.
I was just telling my daughter, who was beating herself up for a mistake "because she's an adult and should know better ", that we expect adults to just know things, but that's not fair. We don't get an additional information module installed on our 18th birthday. We're still learning. We never stop. And many of the lessons we learn will come complimentary of the mistakes we make. In a way, many of our mistakes are gifts to our future selves. In a "oh, socks for Christmas. Yay." kind of way.
Anyway what I'm trying to say is, be kind to past you. They did their best.

When in the process of leaving an abusive marriage, I read the amazing classic on the topic, "Why does he do that?".
It's funny in a tragic way that in one chapter he writes "If your new partner talks about how his ex was crazy and made unfair accusations, it's a good idea to talk to the ex and get her side of things as well before you decide on what to believe", and then in a later chapter he states that the fiercest ally an abusive man has in continuing to make life hell for his victim after breakup is usually his new partner.
In other words - we really should listen to the ex, but... We don't. At least not before it's too late, and we realise we've become the next victim and also the next "crazy ex" he will tell someone else about.

He never hit me once. He is actually mentally ill and was diagnosed with Bipolar *after* we had a baby. With all the kindness I can muster, I will say that he was more dysfunctional than outright abusive, but in the end it was still too much. Because he *could* control it at work, and in public. Just not at home with me.
It is important for young women to know that not all abuse is physical, so actually yeah that was kinda the inspiration for the username. I made this account right after I kicked him out six years ago.

This. Teeth over everything, even riches. Every adult tooth gone deteriorates jaw health and shaves years off. Implants aren't even a 1:1 health ratio. Im down 4 teeth but at least my smile is still nice, for now...
26
ComparisonOk8602Mar 29, 2026
+49
Lost teeth do not reduce your life.
There is a correlation between dental health and longevity. Correlation does not equal causation. The causation is that people who take care of their teeth tend to also take care of the rest of themselves; so people with bad teeth tend to die younger because they tend to not have healthy habits.
Leaving rotting teeth in your jaw can kill you very quickly. Getting an unhealthy tooth removed from an otherwise healthy and well maintained body *increases* life expectancy because the source of deadly infection is gone.

I had a similar situation where I had acquired some bitcoin to purchase something on the dark web. I actually did make some purchases, but then left it alone for years. Recently recovered the password to see what was inside and lo and behold... 200 dollars worth of bitcoin. Still nice to get it back but not exactly the payout I'd been hoping for.

There is a reason why not even Warren Buffett or any stock genious put any significant amount if any on Bitcoin in 2012.

Good one!! My college advisor helped me decide on my loans and told me after 10 yrs as a Social Worker in non profits, the rest would be forgiven. So simple. I did 10, applied, and was told Parent Plus don't count, in fact none of mine count because I wasn't on the right kind of payment plan. I applied again when Biden was doing his forgiveness thing, I got a letter that my loans qualified and would be forgiven, and two days later got another letter that their administration's loan forgiveness plan was tied up in the courts, and when it resolved they would proceed with all the loans that qualified. Never heard anything again. High school/college advisors don't know this system (at least not when I needed direction) and don't seem capable of helping make educated decisions in this regard.

Then bitcoin went viral in 2017 when it started to grow from $1,000 to $10,000. Again, ridiculous price, it can only go down from there. Now in 2025 it was $100k lmao. And, tbh, I still think it's probably peak and a waste of money to buy any.

"When Dad and Mom get sick with digestive issues in January of '25 and '26, respectively, get them to the hospital by the second day, or you will lose them both."
They died of entirely different things, but both would have been preventable had they gone to the hospital earlier.
PSA to elderly folks: if you're feeling sickly, just go to the doc/clinic/hospital. ***You're too damn old to "ride it out" and bounce back unassisted.***
Bonus PSA: especially if you have family/descendants, **get that AARP Supplemental Medicare Plan G**. That shit covers pertnear everything and takes a helluva lot of stress out of everything for you/them.
Two weeks in the ICU, followed by 3 days of in-home hospice care (equipment, supplies, meds, daily nurse visits all included) would have pertnear wiped out my mother's estate while/after she passed. Instead, we've received *one bill* for $93...which is less than the refund checks her estate has received from recent insurance overpays.

Same basic message for me too. Friday, September 13, 2019: make dad go to the emergency room. It's necrotizing fasciitis and if he waits until Sunday it will be too late. Although it will take almost a week before options are exhausted and everyone agrees to remove life support.

I'm sorry for your loss.
For my dad it was sepsis from an unknown cause, leading to cascading system failure. Within 6 hours of going to the ER (three days after he started feeling sick), he was transferred to ICU, put under medical sedation, and just never woke up from it. Held on for a couple days to let everyone say goodbye, though.
Unfortunately, the reason he waited so long was because his symptoms at onset were exactly the same as the issues he would get every 6-8 months from his cancer remission management drugs.
For my mom, it was a stomach bug leading to dehydration/malnutrition, causing an unknown number of strokes and seizures. Two weeks of yo-yo'ing in the ICU, and she made the nearly impossible decision to die comfortably at home rather than in the hospital.

Yep, it was sepsis for my dad too, and no one knows how he got the necrotizing fasciitis since it was inside his shoulder and he had no injuries. He ignored the pain because what kills you in a weekend? Plus he was a doctor anyway and could monitor himself, and chatted with some doctor friends about what it might be the day it started.
Sorry for your loss too. I can't even imagine it happening to both parents and so close together. And your mom's loss is so recent. 😔 It took me a few years to reach the point that I don't have to engage with the sad feelings about my dad unless I choose to do so. Weirdly, COVID helped when it started 6 months later, because EVERYONE'S lives were fucked up and not what they used to be, so it felt better to know everyone's worlds had changed, not just mine.

Stop drinking now.
I feel like I didn't start my adult life until I quit drinking in 2020. The developmental progress I have made in my life since is substantial, compared to the hamster wheel I was on while I was drunk or hungover all the time.
It still BLOWS my mind I allowed myself to live like that. Addiction is a b****!

To spend the most time with my granny as I could because in just 7 years, I would lose her. She pretty much raised me and I moved out almost as soon as I turned 18 and didn’t get to spend much time with her after that. Of course as a teenager you take everything for granted and you think you will have all the time in the world. It’s my biggest regret.

Put my name on the house title. Don’t use credit cards, put as much as possible into a private secret savings account. Could we go a couple more years back? It would be to stop being a chicken and move forward with that home purchase. (Divorce had me starting from scratch in my 40’s).

Hey man. You know the voice in the back of your head saying you're a dude? Listen.
When she tells you to wait until after the wedding, don't. She's gonna leave you homeless. She's going to prove you right.
She's going to cheat on you like she cheated on him WITH you. It's ok to think she's the most beautiful woman you've ever seen.
Because at that point, she was and sure she still is, but buddy boy, you don't even know the scores of Beautiful women and femmes you will meet who will think you're a good human because of who you are, not who you pretended to be.
It's ok if you wanna stay with her, but just know when you need her the most, she's gonna bounce and you and LL will be the ones picking up the pieces. Love you homie. I promise you, we are doing ok. I'm proud of us in the future, even if you decide to change up our path. We are worth the fight.
