I'd refer back to that excellent post about winning large sums of money,  and keep it to myself until I had all of the preparation set up to use it.

I think you are referring to [this](https://www.listnook.com/r/AskListnook/comments/24vo34/comment/chb4v05/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), for those who will ask.

What are you talking about? I’ve used it three times already.

Hey can I have $8

_thro_awa_ Mar 27, 2026 +117
No you can't have $8, but here's £3.50

Great, now he'll keep coming back. Damn Loch Ness Monster.

Shed probably also listen to advisors and maybe communicate with the highest offices instead of colluding with business owners.

I like the parts where he talks about the us government defaulting and the capitol building being on fire as a thing that will never happen

I was reading it and thinking the same, that really didn't age well

Despite all of the asshattery on Listnook, posts like this make it worth it.

Things were sooo much better here before it grew to the size it is now.

I can reliably inform you that folks in 2015 were complaining about how much worse Listnook had gotten since 2010

yes, do all that and then practice stealth wealth. The more people who know about your money, the more people are gonna have their hands out.
930
AlienZaye Mar 26, 2026 +386
I have a few people that I'd give some money to, like my immediate family and a couple friends that have been there for me during some really, really dark times, but that's it, and that wouldn't be til I had set up legal protections and savings and investments.
386
lampstax Mar 26, 2026 +271
1b is f*** you money .. by all means protect yourslef legally and make sure the money is yours but at that point why would you care anymore what people might think. Bless those that deserves it .. and middle finger to everyone else who hates because they hands are empty.
271
The-Flying-Waffle Mar 26, 2026 +102
100% agree. 1 billions is so big evn if you had 10 friends and gave them each £100,000 that, while not instantly life changing, is only £1,000,000. you can thousand times give those out.
102
CaptainTripps82 Mar 26, 2026 +58
If you had a billion dollars, and you gave away 10 million dollars, you know how much you'd have left? About a billion dollars.
58
lampstax Mar 26, 2026 +81
Yep. 100k can be life changing to most already as well.
81
PolkaClock Mar 26, 2026 +117
Dude, 5k or less can be life-changing lol. If 2k hit me tomorrow I would feel a euphoria and release of pent-up stress that no drug could compete with. 😂
117
PETEFO55 Mar 26, 2026 +95
I think two thousand dollars of cocaine would evoke a similar feeling
95
IRedditDoU Mar 26, 2026 +22
$50 of cocaine will do it. But only for about an hour.
22
Bails3857 Mar 26, 2026 +10
That’s what the other $1950 in blow is for. After the first hour
10
sachimi21 Mar 26, 2026 +16
I would cry if I got $1,000 tomorrow, much less $100,000.
16
Matsu-mae Mar 26, 2026 +44
dude, if you have 1 billion you can give 10 friends 10 million each and you wouldnt even notice it was gone. 900 million vs 1 billion is essentially the same amount
44
ricree Mar 26, 2026 +40
By the traditional 4% rule (ie, you can safely draw about 4% long term to live off of from invested wealth), having a billion dollars means having an effective "salary" of $40 million per year. That's... rather a lot of wiggle room to be a bit lavish.
40
Typical-Moment-9702 Mar 26, 2026 +32
Yup… read this a while ago and it really puts it in perspective: One million seconds is approximately 11.5 days, whereas one billion seconds is nearly 31.7 years.
32
Few_Accident_9788 Mar 26, 2026 +30
It's hard to imagine but there are people whose only developed identity is being part of a large family or part of a homogenous community (religious groups, ethnic communities, social classes, etc) that feel intimidated by the idea of the group turning their backs on them, even if that is a result of selfish manipulation by the group. People with sudden wealth frequently get taken advantage of all the damn time by the ones they know most.
30
lampstax Mar 26, 2026 +15
If it was a religious group then you can easily tell them that if God wanted them to get that money they would have woken up as a billionaire as well. 😆
15
randalljhen Mar 26, 2026 +32
Protect yourself even then. Everyone receiving the money receives an invitation to a prestigious law firm, including limo/travel/hotel/whatever, including yourself. A lawyer disburses the money to each person, including yourself. Make sure nobody knows it came from you.
32
pm_me_ur_th0ng_gurl Mar 26, 2026 +10
I have a bunch of people I would give like $10,000 to, then disappear from their life.
10
Melora_T_Rex714 Mar 26, 2026 +69
True, but there are many who actually deserve to be donated to. Animal rescues, conservation, children’s health services, feeding the poor, etc… I probably wouldn’t be a billionaire for long. My “deserving” list is extensive.
69
Kevin_Uxbridge Mar 26, 2026 +63
You’d be surprised what professional money managers can do for you. You could give away millions a year and still have a billion. Read that gate’s wife is in this pattern, has handed out billions and still has more than she started with.
63
gaginang101 Mar 26, 2026 +25
The key part is finding a money manager that is trustworthy and won't steal it all.
25
Kevin_Uxbridge Mar 26, 2026 +13
If that’s the worry go with a big firm. They won’t be going on the lam with your money.
13
alltherobots Mar 26, 2026 +15
If that’s the worry, then split it with *three* big firms. And let them know the other two are involved.
15
thainfamouzjay Mar 26, 2026 +42
Its a billion bucks you can just keep giving people money very unlikely you'll actually run out.
42
dinamet7 Mar 26, 2026 +41
I feel like people aren't really grasping the obscene exponential difference between being a millionaire and having a billion dollars.
41
MrVegosh Mar 26, 2026 +7
You’re a billionaire bro. You don’t gotta worry bout that
7
FuckChiefs_Raiders Mar 26, 2026 +86
Bro billionaire is a whole other level from these lotto winners. It would be quite the spending spree to blow that. Think of it this way, someone who won $100M in the lotto, this is 10x that.
86
Scottiths Mar 26, 2026 +110
Even that is a little too abstract to understand. The two best quotes I find to explained it are: "The difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is approximately a billion dollars" "A million seconds is 11.57 days. A billion seconds is 31.7 years."
110
NerdThatWasPromised Mar 26, 2026 +15
I've always loved Admiral Grace Hopper's explanation on the matter. She talks about it in the context of millionths and billionths of a second, because she's talking about data transmission and data processing times, but the logic still holds up. https://youtu.be/gYqF6-h9Cvg?si=Tos6SOXTxcGzhPo7
15
WellTextured Mar 26, 2026 +28
Woah, 10 times as much? Big if true.
28
Zammin Mar 26, 2026 +10
Always important to remember that the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is roughly a billion dollars.
10
Kiyohara Mar 26, 2026 +58
After that, start setting up foundation and charity after another. I won't leave a cent unspent when I die and I plan to make the world a better place both as I live and after I die. I want the entire world to go, "F***, that u/Kiyohara really did make a lot of things better." And then spend a good long weekend camping in the u/Kiyohara memorial Nature preserve that *I* created.

bookmarkjedi Mar 26, 2026 +847
In 2015, the exchange rate was Z$250 trillion for one dollar. At this rate, one billion Z$ is not enough for even a breadcrumb. I own two crisp ten trillion dollar bills. They're pretty cool. The photo shows a rock, but the rock looks (somewhat fittingly) kinda like a pile of poo poo.
847
Revolutionary_Bus833 Mar 27, 2026 +258
A few years ago I bought 10 consecutive and uncirculated 1 trillion dollar notes as a joke. Turns out that 3 quid has turned itself into 300 quid a note. Best ROI I've had yet.
258
FTownRoad Mar 27, 2026 +13
Are you talking about the bills issued in 2008? Because those are worthless and have been replaced as currency.
13
silentanthrx Mar 27, 2026 +19
maybe collectors value, I would pay 10 bucks for it, so 300 is not out of the realm
19
creatyvechaos Mar 27, 2026 +44
Z$ was so overinflated that it's actually not a legal tender anymore
44
400Volts Mar 26, 2026 +100
Not anymore! Bread is now 1T
100
carlyhaze Mar 26, 2026 +46
Every time I buy a loaf of bread these days, I can't stop thinking the story "Le Miserables" is effectively a very timeless story which repeats through our society as a never ending story.

50
pudgehooks2013 Mar 27, 2026 +80
I would immediately use the money to f*** with the other billionaires and ruin their lives. * Buy land next to data centres, cut off all their utilities. * Pay someone to set up a system that purchases $1 items from amazon with free shipping by the hundreds of thousands a day, then automatically returns them once they arrive for a refund. * Pay people to follow them wherever they go, blasting one specific bit of music as loud as they can, per billionaire. This includes things like bluetooth speakers dropped from drones, etc. * Pay someone to disable their private jets / cars in an unobtrusive way. And so many more.
80
Mubanga Mar 27, 2026 +21
Setup a law firm with some of the best lawyers you can get, specifically to sue billionaires and companies that fucked normal people over. Take maybe 10% of winnings so you can keep going indefinitely.

1: get an immediate access bank account with an interest rate 2: put all the money in there to accrue interest until whoever owns the money comes for it 3: give them said money minus the interest

Chasin_Papers Mar 26, 2026 +191
FDIC insurance is like $250,000. That's very risky.
191
RPF1945 Mar 26, 2026 +209
Banks have programs to spread the funds across other banks to maintain the $250k insurance. I have clients with tens of millions in cash on deposit, all of which is fully FDIC insured.
209
cobalt26 Mar 27, 2026 +73
Still four thousand banks though
73
RPF1945 Mar 27, 2026 +81
It’s an automatic program that takes next to no work for the bank or the depositor. A full billion might be over the limit, but you can get a few hundred million insured this way.
81
a1usiv Mar 26, 2026 +30
I'd go a step further and assume someone I don't want to piss off is very upset and looking for their billion dollars.

A friend of mine recently got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, he has 2 young kids and a wife. So the first thing I'd do if pay off his mortgage and have them both quit their jobs so they can spend as much time together as they can. I'd take care of everything and set up some kind of trust for his wife and kids.

Dr-ass-clapper Mar 26, 2026 +67
Make sure my family and friends are set for life. I always wanted a sports daycare, so I’d build the most amazing facility ever and charge enough to pay my employees. If under a certain income charge nothing. If I could find a way to charge nothing at all without bleeding money do that.
67
visiblepeer Mar 26, 2026 +10
I'd go a step further and buy every available house in the borough, and renovate to a very good standard, insulated, solar and battery installations, and then rent them out very affordably. Then give every school in the borough a teaching salary bursary.  I don't come from a rich area, so give as many people as possible a comfortable home and their kids a good education.  It will pay itself back within 20 years. Not to me directly, but as long as I reserve £1m for myself, I'll be fine.

You can probably do that for a few hundred bucks tops.

Microsoft huh? That explains why it’s so awful.

1. Pay off all of my immediate family's bills and student loans (mine were discharged last year!). 2. Buy my wife a modest house with a pool. 3. Squirrel away a few million for the future. 4. Trusts for our two young sons for their future education and/or endeavors. 5. Keep working at my own law firm and no longer charge clients. I'd take on the craziest criminal and civil rights cases Pro Bono. I'd hire some people and really push to become a leading firm that helps people for that purpose. No fees. No charges. Team up with the Innocence Project. 6. Travel with my wife a few times per year, family a few times per year. 7. Create a modest monthly budget that wouldn't allow us to fall into high revolving debt. 8. Randomly go around and putting money into forgotten projects to benefit mankind. Ya know altruistic things like that. Edit: 9. Start a Super PAC that heavily pushes to get rid of Citizens United, to codify Roe v Wade, to introduce term limits for Congress, to return taxes to FDR like times. There's a lot the more I think about stuff!
369
CSMasterClass Mar 26, 2026 +106
This is very kind and likable, but it does not grasp the magnitude of a billion. You have a fine plan for 30 million) but that is only 3% of your "bequest".
106
Bay1Bri Mar 27, 2026 +23
I remember a thread like this a while back asking what you would spend that money on, and it showed people both over and underestimated how much a billion is. That is, it's an unimaginable amount for an individual, but not that much in the world. Examples: one guy said he'd but land with a lake and build a lake house for him and his family. Something that would leave him with approximately 1 billion left to spend. At the other extreme, someone else said he'd build a bridge connecting NYC and London. Assuming such a thing is even possible, it would cost far more than a billion, honestly probably closer to a trillion than a billion. EDIT: For poops and giggles I she chat gpt the cost of the transatlantic bridge, and it estimated that 1) it isn't possible at present and 2) would cost hundreds of trillions of dollars to build, v of not more.

do good with it. i wish I had that kind of money to be a philanthropist. Take what I need to make my family comfortable, and just spread goodness.

killer_burrito Mar 27, 2026 +93
Honest answer: give away $900 million. There are people who really could use that money now, and you can live SO comfortably off of $100 million. ...Billionaires shouldn't exist.

Tasgall Mar 27, 2026 +12
Or, use the money to maximize investments to gain more wealth and thus clout, and use it to buy politicians who you can influence into restructuring society so that billionaires no longer exist...
12
0xbenedikt Mar 26, 2026 +15
I feel the same. There’s so much good you can do with that money. So much research that could be funded. So many unprivileged that could be helped.

My first move isn’t anything flashy… I’m locking everything down.. lawyer, accountant, investments, trusts.. making sure the money lasts and grows. Then I’d take a step back somewhere peaceful, reset and move smart. I’ll donate to charities. After that yeah I’ll enjoy it… but quietly

You could set $100,000 on fire every day for a decade and still have $635,000,000 left. Your strategy is strategy for $10,000,000 not $1,000,000,000 We cannot wrap our minds around that type of ludicrous wealth.
121
dixi_normous Mar 26, 2026 +62
Except with that type of wealth, parking the money in even a modest interest yielding account would earn you that 100k a day. You could light that 100k on fire each day and never lose a cent
62
nwvt420 Mar 26, 2026 +16
At $100k a day, you would probably earn more in interest than you burned

1. Pay off everyone's medical bills in as many hospitals I could find. 2. Sprinkle it around to as many extended family members I could find. 3. Donate at least $500,000,000 to medical research and sick kids on gofundme (would just scroll down the list and start dropping $200K a pop or something for a few hundred pages lol. 4. Buy a small plane and Bugatti Chiron hypercar. 5. I'd be satisfied in only having $10,000,000 left over (no kids so don't have to worry about generational wealth).

Disappear my family, use the remaining wealth to undermine the other billionaires in the world, destroying their wealth, bringing about their downfall, and redistributing the money back to the people. If i fail, I disappear myself to some tropical island and just live the rest of my days in paranoid solace. If I’m successful, I disappear myself to the mountains and live out the rest of my days satisfied and finally at peace with myself.
35
alblaster Mar 26, 2026 +14
And how would you do that?  Billionaires have money, but they also have insane amounts of power and control.  Using money to undermine them could easily get them to do some underhanded shit and then you lose everything.  The only way I could see it working is if you converted it into physical assets or cash maybe over a decade or 2 and then start your plan.  But with the kind of spending you'd need to do you'd be very visible and very vulnerable to attack.

Use the wealth to create a coalition of worker coops to usurp mega corporate holds on different industries, with conditions that if they try to go public they have to pay back every dollar I invested 10 fold so it destroys the company. Basically, I would set up a wide range of competitors so I can make money, pay people right and by not being publicly traded that fiduciary duty enshittification does not happen. Since no shareholders, or endless enshittification or corner cutting to pad profits for the owner class, that massive waste can instead be used to pad employee wages and keep costs competitive. That way we are cheaper, higher quality, and people love working for us. Usually families sell out and go public but with those contingencies and doing it as a business alliance I can weaponize end stage capitalism against itself. Then using the money I would get involved with politics and bribe oh I mean lobby, to reverse the interpretation of fiduciary duty. I would spend money on research to prove long term investments, and investing in employees and doing the opposite of enshittification is actually the real fiduciary duty. Then I would invest in all those public companies and when they keep enshittification I sue them as a shareholder for failing to carry out their fiduciary duty. Keep repeating this so I can weaponize the economic rigging against the owner class instead.
