But will it affect the trout population?

Oil from bombed refineries raining down on water supplies won't help and since the smoke will reach the upper atmosphere and blanket the planet, fish everywhere will be affected.  So will the planet's children.

Probably need to come up with a different measurement of how successful a society is besides economic growth.

GhostofSmartPast Mar 30, 2026 +22
Most of that growth doesn't even benefit the average person.

GDP can eat my c*** and ass

PhantasosX Mar 30, 2026 +5
yeah, the more accurate example would be a comparisson of GDP with Purchase Power. As that would reflect if the economic growth is translated into improvement for average person.

People get so damned focus on GDP.  If I pay you $100 to clean my cutters, and you pay me $100 to fix your deck, we have added $200 to the GDP yay!  But if we only charge each other $20, the GDB won't be as high even though we both still got what we needed.

Economic collapse is the more appropriate term.

Haven't we grown enough

Developed countries, probably, but as a Trinbagonian I'm inclined to say no.

I'm happy to let developing grow but the western world is developed and can afford to chill out for a while

I think we should stop caring about "global growth" and start doing something about this whole mass extinction thing.

An Iranian nuclear weapon would lead to WW3 and a much bigger economic crisis.

Blue_Rook Mar 30, 2026 +5
Possibly, but only idiot thinks that dropping some bombs, and killing few high-ranking people will be enough to stop Iran. Now regime can drop pretending that they aren't trying to build a bomb because this incompetent operation proven there is no conventional tool that can stop them.

They'll have to infiltrate and sabotage somehow. Surely there's some CIA/MI5/mission for this sort of thing right? Where's Tom Cruz when ya really need him?!

hypertr00per Mar 30, 2026 +1
We'll have to call Tom Clancy this time

Ultra_Metal Mar 31, 2026 -3
If you think that only high ranking people are getting hit, then you are not paying attention. Everything is being hit. Their navy is gone. Their air force is gone. Their military bases are gone. Their weapon production factories are gone. The basij are being hunted down by drones and can no longer man the checkpoints that they were using to prevent protests.

PlanktonInitial7945 Mar 31, 2026 +1
If all those things are gone then why is the war still going? More importantly, without navy, air force and military bases, _how are they shooting missiles to Dubai and Turkey_?

Iran is a big country. It's going to take time. Duh.

No, their pursuit of nuclear weapons is what caused the US and Israel to attack. If they didn't pursue nuclear weapons, it is unlikely that the US and Israel would have taken the huge risk of attacking.
