Posted by Omar Hassan

An index fund buys a little bit of every company in an index like the S&P 500. When the market goes up it goes up. When it goes down it goes down. Over any 20 year period in US history it has gone up. The fee matters enormously compounded over decades. VTSAX or equivalent and forget about it.
