As nice as it would be for people to get on board with EVs for more altruistic reasons like the environment, I'll settle with them getting on board for reasons of self-interest. At this point, I really don't care why people do the right thing so long as they actually do it.

The economic strengths of a digital or (alternative energy) eletric driven economy should have been the key argument in favour of promoting it. . Or as we germans say " you can't nourish yourself through air and love"

I can't because EVs still suck. The half decent ones are still over 30k € which is insane and the ones for under 20k € are a joke.
And while I would probably charge it at home, the whole charging infrastructure is idiotic. I don't want special charging card or phone app, just charge me on a credit card like I get charged for petrol at gas station. Why is this stupid bullshit a thing? And why has everyone just accepted it?

It just isn’t for you, they’re fantastic for people in congested cities who travel short distances though. Hopefully the demand will reduce the price or, at the very least, improve the charging infrastructure; it’s still fairly early days.

EVs have been around far AGES now. Nissan Leaf is 16 years old model now. They really aren't some special novelty anymore yet everythin abgout them is still quite stupid. And you can all downvote all you want.

obscuriosityboner16 hr ago

16 years is relatively recent and we’ve only really seen them become significantly popular in the last several years. There are super chargers in nearly every city, they’re just not on par with gas stations yet, because the demand is nowhere near as high, right? I don’t know why you’re so outraged, it’s quite strange.

StaticSystemShock15 hr ago

If I'm selling my 16 years old car NO ONE will ever say "hey that's a fairly recent car". It's old.
I'm outraged because everyone keeps hyping up "c**** EVs" and then telling they are over 30k €. And it's some tiny ass tin can that's the size of original Fiat 500 from 40 years ago. And I'm not even asking for a big as SUV, I just want a normal sized hatchback EV.
-5
obscuriosityboner14 hr ago
+7
You’re missing the point. I’m not saying that a 16 year old car is new, I’m saying that 16 years is fairly short time for a new market to have a worldwide infrastructure, comparable to gas pumps.
> I just want a normal sized hatchback EV
Yeah, everyone wants that. But we’re not all whinging and complaining like toddlers, because we realise that the EV industry is in its infancy, but it’s growing. What do you expect? Exhausting.
7
StaticSystemShock6 hr ago
Yeah, just take it up the ass and never complain, like a true corporate b****. Downvote me you all clowns. oz god forbid someone complains over the state of anything and gets downvoted instantly. You idiots act like I hate electric cars. I was considering one years ago but decided to stay with my petrol car that's 16 years old now. Because electric ones are stupid expensive, smaller and I'll in reality never recoup the extra costs through "cheaper" electricity because of how little distance I drive with it. But I still need one because I can't rely on public transit to get to the job. So f****** downvote me if I don't like the bullshit state of EV's that are everyone hyping so f****** hard.

Yeah, the need for apps and special cards is bullshit. Imagine you come to Shell gas station and they refuse to sell you fuel without access card(not even loyalty)
Thats some weird unnecessary gatekeeping.

He also ensured China will not have to take over Taiwan by brute force but rather the current gov will bow down to China because they cant trust US to assist them if there was an invasion

lots of nice stats in the article
> Ajay Bhatia, chief executive of Mobile.de, said the new and used car marketplace had seen **a greater than 50% increase in electric car inquiries in March compared with February**. Petrol and diesel inquiries dipped during the same period, while inquiries for hybrids combining an engine with a smaller battery edged up by 4%.
> Carwow, which links buyers with dealers in the UK, Spain and Germany, reported **20% to 30% increases in inquiries about electric cars in all three markets between February and March. In the UK, electric demand was up 23% over the month, while hybrid interest was up 19%.**
> “We’ve seen a shift away from internal combustion engines for quite a while now,” said Iain Read, Carwow’s content director. “But what we’ve seen with the war is it’s accelerating.
> Figures last week from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that in March battery electric car registrations, based on sales several months before the break out of hostilities, totalled 86,120. **This was a jump of 24.2% compared with the same month last year and a record high.**
La Centrale, one of France’s largest car marketplaces, said that its **searches for electric vehicles had increased by 160% between the start of March and the start of April.**
> AutoScout24, another marketplace, said **demand for electric cars was up by about 40% in Germany, Austria and Italy**, while demand for petrol and diesel was flat or falling.

The car dealer I bought my EV (Peugeot + Citroen dealer) said that he hadn't sold a fossil fuel car in 16 months. Albeit this is in Denmark, where buying an EV has become the norm

How prevalent are Chinese EVs in Denmark now? I was in DK two years ago and spotted a few. Has it increased?
1
Manndrop9 hr ago

Quick search, they have a 5,5% market share and sales only increased slightly. However, I think I've heard that we don't have many importers, so selection has something to say.

Thanks! so you live in Denmark? What's opinion of people on the streets about Chinese EVs?

People prefer when EVs looks like regular cars. So that's an automatic turn off on some brands. Xpeng are highly regarded though.
Issue is that in order to test drive a Chinese EV is hard, as not many sell Chinese cars.
Morally, theres not really much resistance. People think with their wallet. That's why so many European car brands are succesful. They change the price to fit the market and most European EVs are actually cheaper. Take my Peugeot E208, they have the lowered the price twice. So much that their cars have changed price brackets.

Good, good. If there is more house owners or parking owners (let's be real, without your own charging point things start to be annoying with EV -for now-), people who don't care much about cars and are in capacity to pay for a more expensive one, it's nice that EV became their first choice.
But let's not forget that the vast majority of car owners doesn't have the means of this choice.

The problem with all non-Chinese EVs is they’re too damn expensive.
Like I want an EV version of a base trim Toyota Highlander. I don’t need 1000 hp or whatever a Rivian has. I don’t need / want fancy tech.
But all EVs are priced like luxury vehicles which they usually are. With govt credits they can make sense but without… too expensive!

Neither of those fits my family. I need three rows!
Also they are essentially unusable for any medium length drive because they have no fast charging. Those are both fine for a single person / small family for exclusive use for short commutes and running errands around time. So, yeah they would work for some people but not me

'25 Chevy blazer EV or Ioniq 4. I just went through a car buying round and did alot of comparisons. You can find these 25k miles for ~$30k at mid to high trims.
If you want more luxury mid to high 30s, than used jeep grand cherokee 4xE has better packages but higher used prices mid to high 30s and is a plug in hybrid, not full EV.

May this spur the change of walkable cities with plenty of options for transit as walking biking public transit and then cars mixed in here and there.

Probably because people are aware that the structural problems that led to the current conflict are still present and are unlikely to change for the next few years.
