I have internet and I also have little idea how it’s actually going.

Same, I was thinking this morning that despite being locked into listnook and the news to an unhealthy extent, I can’t wrap my head around what is happening Maybe that’s intentional?

Aren’t those linked to Iranian propaganda?
11

Not just linked to, the Iranians literally made them, and they haven't been subtle.

I've legitimately never seen listnookors eat up propaganda like this. Its really weird because listnook as a whole contains users who vehemently oppose everything Iran stands for, or at least they claim to, and yet there's so many people suddenly softpeddling Iran's atrocities and the sheer scale of their oppression while holding a microscope on whatever America does. I genuinely think its some kind of Iranian ploy to further propagandize people. Create a bunch of fake propaganda accounts that'll say "What? Iran murdered thousands of protestors? When? By the way, look at all the protestors America's killed (3). Therefore they're worse than Iran in every metric!"
3
smooth-as-mud 5 days ago -1
Being in America is not great right now, for a lot of people, and there aren't many signs that things are going to get better any time soon. It would be one thing if policing Iran was just kind of something the government was doing on the side, while they were taking care of business at home, but it’s actively making life in America worse on a daily basis. Frankly it’s not surprising that there’s a very small appetite for it, and that people are pointing out the hypocrisy. Why should Americans care what is going on in Iran when similar things are happening at home and also something as simple as a Friday night dinner at a half-decent restaurant is out of reach for a decent chunk of the population? I don't doubt there are real propaganda bots in the mix, that's what war is these days, but I'm also not going to deny that America has set itself up for its citizens to buy into it. If the economy was roaring and everyone felt good, safe, and comfortable I'm sure that significantly fewer people would care what was going on.

Right but the same people that scream about how evil A.I is and how it has no soul suddenly switch their tone when it comes to anti-usrael propaganda. Is it too much to ask for some consistency and conviction?

Tends to be the result when one side of the conflict is a highly biased, extremely propagandized regime with very little civilian rights or information access...and the other side of the conflict is a highly biased administration that loves to lie led by a chatterbox that doesn't have any idea what's going on because they're suffering from dementia and performs diplomacy via unhinged Truth Social posts.
20
Lovely_kenzie 5 days ago -4
Why did you describe the US twice?
-4
LuckyBoneHead 5 days ago +5
To describe America as "a place with little civilian rights or information access" is a sign that you're propagandized. There's no way, even as a joke, someone could say that sincerely.

4
BOPSurfcasting1 5 days ago +18
Well, let me tell you how the war is going....we bombed them, they bombed us, fuel and food prices are getting higher and higher, and the United States is now helping Iran keep the Strait of Hormuz closed.
18
Colbert2020 5 days ago +22
What the USA is doing is interdicting ships going to Iranian ports. It's effectively a blockade on Iran's ability to generate money through their oil exports while the cost of oil is so high and the strait is closed to everyone else. It's not stupid. I'd daresay it's good strategy. For the record, the war itself is stupid. The USA should just take the L and leave. But as far as tactics go, this is not a bad one. Iran wants to control the strait, but that's not going to happen. It is international waters.
22
DEATH-BY-CIRCLEJERK 5 days ago +3
They are also interdicting ships that pay Iran the $2M toll per transit of the strait. Not just ships going to Iranian ports.
3
Colbert2020 5 days ago +14
Yes. No one will pay the toll anymore now. That's the theory anyways. If Iran wants to close the strait, then it's closed for everyone. Not just the people Iran wants. Turns out having a navy matters, not just some drones or artillery near your coast. I f****** hate Trump and I hate this war. But the people on this stupid social media platform are just so stupid and don't understand what's going on. This is a strategically sound move. Other countries can get their oil elsewhere instead of paying Iran's toll or letting Iran export their oil. This should have been done the first day Iran threatened the strait. The oil prices are GOING to be high for you, REGARDLESS of this move. 90%+ of the traffic was not happening. The only nation that benefits from what was going on before the "blockade" was Iran.
14
BOPSurfcasting1 5 days ago +3
Yes good strategy but Iran have endured years of sanctions and have developed their own strategies to survive these sanctions, granted this blockade is like the mother of all sanctions, but don't expect Iran to buckle overnight, they might be able to hold out for months.
3
Diezelbub 5 days ago +4
They have endured years of sanctions precisely because they've been able to use the straight as they please. They dont have friends willing to extend credit because when their people depose the government they're not going to honor the debt. Oil revenue and the foreign currency it brings in drying up is a big deal, trying to float on their own currency is leading to hyperinflation which means nobody wants to be paid in it (not that they did to begin with but its even less desired now)
4
BOPSurfcasting1 5 days ago +5
Alright, I'm not looking forward to the increased fuel and food prices that will result from that, and I'm also convinced the Islamic regime can take the pain, here's hoping I'm wrong and they fold.
5
Colbert2020 5 days ago +2
Traffic through the strait at its highest of this war was like 3% of what it was prior to it. The only ships that were going through were those (1) exporting Iranian crude, or (2) paying the toll. This was not a lot of them. Most shipping companies will not take the risk. Am I praising the move? I didn't want the war to start. I want it to be f****** over yesterday. I don't care how humiliating the defeat is. But I hope we can agree that letting Iran profit from the fact they threatened the strait is stupid as f*** and I am glad they put an end to that. Without a navy, Iran cannot enforce a toll. It's simple as that.
2
m3ntos1992 5 days ago +4
One day it's lifting sanctions on Iranian oil, now it's  blocking all Iranian oil. It just seems like US started this war without any plan? Or if they had one it went completely sideways...
4
Colbert2020 5 days ago +3
Lifting the sanctions was obviously stupid. As soon as Iran threatened shipping in the strait, they should not have been allowed to let their own tankers through or charge a toll. It's international waters. Either open it, or close it. Iran does not get to hold the strait hostage.
3
Krickwho 5 days ago +2
unlikely Iran will fold from this, their already asked Iranian civilians to stand in the line of fire of bombs, won't be a problem feeding the troops and just ignore their own civilian population. It's a really crazy war who knows what happen I doubt anyone has a idea especially with Trump flip flopping all over the place...

Just go in there and grab it, cherish it, it's there for the taking, we did all the hard work so it should be easy. Cancel that. You try sail through the strait and we'll help Iran blow your ass out of the water.

They never said anything about blowing tankers up. You’re spreading misinformation right now.

That’s not what centcom said though. If your destination or origin is an Iranian location, you will be boarded, humanitarian ships are subject to inspection, and only military ships will be blown up.

No, Iran is not doing a blockade for the US blockade. They are blockading the entire Middle East trade now. I don't know how they will do this. It is a threat though.
0
Colbert2020 5 days ago +7
Prior to this move, the strait was closed for everyone except buyers for Iran's oil exports, and those that paid the toll. Think about that. Iran threatened the strait and are profiting from the increased price on their crude. F*** that. I am glad they put an end to it. You can hate Trump. I sure do. But this move just makes sense. The strait does not belong to Iran.
7

It still blows me away that one man can do all this to the global economy. He should have left Israel to it, Iran hold their Hormuz card in reserve for US involvement only and were not likely to play that hand in the event of just an Israeli attack.

Well over a month of no internet for their whole country. Normal stuff for IRGC I guess
56
az78 5 days ago +23
Before the conflict, there were daily stories about water shortages, rolling blackouts, runaway inflation, etc. Those problems didn't disappear when the bombs started dropping, only our ability to hear about them. The IRGC knows this and the internet is where dissidents network to build mass protests. How long will the Internet be off before we acknowledge the IRGC is never turning it back on again?
23
Loco_72 5 days ago +39
Apparently, both Iran and the United States won the war, although they also both lost and are now urging each other to negotiate a peace agreement. Meanwhile, both are blocking the Strait of Hormuz, which is both open and closed at the same time.

It's interesting because I think your average Iranian would be shocked at how well the war is going for them at a strategic level If I was an Iranian and someone told me "the USA managed to kill a bunch of senior leadership and destroyed our air force and navy, yet are begging us to make peace and are willing to make concessions on a half dozen points" I would probably assume it was IRGC propaganda rather than Trump f****** this up *that* badly
19

But yea. Let’s keep cheering Iran on from western civilization. A place where we are free. IRGC hate us. we are ruled by a WWE-ified administration. None of this makes sense
21
ZombiePartyBoyLives 5 days ago +9
I'm not cheering Iran on, but I do find the lack of awareness and competence from anyone in this administration awe-inspiring. Like, do any of them understand that the US fought a proxy war through Iraq against Iran for **ten f****** years**? Did they all think Iran would just bend over and take it? It might be amusing if it wasn't so horrifying...

I'm hearing firsthand from friends and family in Iran (they can only call outside, one way) that the worst part is that there are sometimes warnings about locations that will be targeted within the hour, but people can't find out! because the regime has implemented a complete internet shutdown and the state media won't broadcast those locations either. 90 million people have been taken hostage.

They've been doing that for the past years everytime there was a risk for protests. Even Russia and Ukraine aren't entirely blocking the internet. Only Iran is doing it this way and it's for this specific reason: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_censorship_in_Iran > In response to the 2019 Iranian protests, the government implemented a total Internet shutdown, reducing traffic to just 5% of normal levels https://www.hrw.org/news/2026/03/06/iran-internet-shutdown-violates-rights-escalates-risks-to-civilians
