That scene where Thragg moves his arm back to punch Nolan so fast that it creates a vacuum that shifts all the air in the vicinity was insane

Not only that, the fact that it even shifted Nolan, who is ridiculously strong in his own right and yet was pulled in by the force of Thragg *just moving his arm in Nolan's vicinity*.
The animation really did an incredible job at conveying that Thragg is to other Viltrumites what Viltrumites are to everyone else.

Gravimetric pull is the square of the distance to object (if my poor memory doesnt betray me), its a consistent "pull" at set distances.

Last week’s episode was the halfway point, so we’re one episode past halfway.
Kirkman’s said he might expand on the ending though. There’s a lot of stuff it montages through that doesn’t really have a major story impact and is more just “the adventures continue,” and that’s the stuff Kirkman said they might expand if people just want more Invincible.

I’m so, so curious on what type of work out regiment they put Mark on to get him strong enough to even fight Thragg, let alone kill him. Like the difference in strength is larger than when Mark fought Omni-Man at the end of S1. I just can’t imagine how that gap is closed and that’s saying something since Mark just killed the second strongest Viltrumite.

> I’m so, so curious on what type of work out regiment they put Mark on to get him strong enough to even fight Thragg,
Spoilers for the end of the comic, but
>!>Mark never really beats Thragg. He drags Thragg into the Sun where they are bolt melting and fighting at the same time, then Mark gets multiple assists from others, like Robot giving him a suit to give him a few extra seconds in the sun and Allen fishing him out and saving him. Thragg is by far the strongest being in Invincible until the very end of the comic when Mark is 500+ years old and at that point he is probably the strongest in the universe. But he never really defeats Thragg fair and square.

I think I only read the first fifty or so issues of the comics (Compendium One), but I'd never heard the "adrenaline theory." That blows my mind. I'd never even considered that. Of course Viltrumites wouldn't need adrenal glands, so *that* is how humans end up being so compatible with them.

To be fair, the theory revolves around Mark beats stronger opponents when he is very angry and the dialog between him and Conquest. Conquest says "Getting mad doesn't make you stronger! That's not how it works!" but well it works for Mark

So I loved this episode, don't get me wrong, but is anyone else tired of space battles?
The random people scattered around flying it off screen and saving each other before they die.. The punches that send people flying away but not doing any real damage..
When they are on a planet, the punches feel so much more impactful because the person gets launched through a mountain or a building. And you see the destruction of the hit. It's epic. But in space everything just feels so... weak?

I agree. I would have preferred a fight on the planet. tbh I was skeptical about the casting choice at first too but after this episode I'm starting to come around 😅 the way he delivered those lines during the fight scenes was actually pretty intense. Maybe it's just taking me time to adjust since I had such a specific voice in my head for Thragg from reading the comics. Lee Pace definitely brings this cold menacing energy that works even if it's not exactly what I expected initially 💀
70
BeckQuillion89Apr 16, 2026

I think it's how eloquent and intelligent he is. Most viltramites are angry bloodthirsty war machines.
While Thragg, while still being cruel, is someone you can see leading a planet in ways besides his strength.
The voice performance could definitely be better though, but it does fit for his character.
11
Mookies_BettApr 16, 2026
+9
They've also given Thragg a dimension beyond just "really mean and powerful guy who kills a lot of people." You can tell Thragg genuinely cares about his people and his role as the steward of their quest for racial supremacy. He is obviously evil, but he's not sadistic and he doesn't relish in having to fight or kill his own like many other Viltrumites seem to.
He spares Mark and Nolan at the end of the fight not because he wants to, but because he is genuinely sick and tired of watching his species die. Of seeing his people get killed. Killing two more of them, even if they deserve it and just obliterated their literal home planet, is still too much for him to bear after having lost so much.
It's an interesting wrinkle to his character, being that strong but yet still hesitant to just instakill mark or Nolan because he feels like their empire has lost too much already as is.

I like it, and not just because I love Lee Pace.
Watching Thragg effortlessly dominate everyone throughout this episode made it all fall into place for me. Calm, quiet menace is the perfect fit for this character in my opinion. There's really no need for bluster when you can punch someone into orbit.

As someone who hasn't read the comics and is just going off the show I'm not a fan, but I don't think it is just Lee Pace that is the problem.
Pace's voice is pretty cold and monotone for Thragg. This is clearly intentional because he's supposed to be a cold blooded born warrior type, and he does get heated in the latest episode, but still. The monotonous voice is one thing but Thragg's visual design is also REALLY boring in a way that just makes his character seem really bland overall. He also just sort of came out of nowhere and wasn't built up at all aside from a couple episodes this season so it's kind of hard to care about him. I'll compare him to DB villains, where they have tons and tons of episodes of buildup even if they're new to the audience. Invincible doesn't have that luxury. We barely know anything about Thragg and we are thrown into scenes where we are supposed to be intimidated by him. This is the first episode where we really get much of his power at all but he's also so impossibly strong that it's kind of... whatever.
Conquest is actually sort of similar where we didn't get any of his backstory before he shows up, but he's so intimidating and interesting visually and well played by JDM that it doesn't matter, he instantly imparts menace.

Are you confusing Breaking Bad with the Walking Dead? Aaron Paul was in the show but who else from Breaking Bad? There's about 5 actors from the Walking Dead.

THE HEADBUTT ANIMATION WAS SO PEAK.
2nd would be the planet being destroyed. The combined energy turning blue w/ its immense heat as they progressed together faster towards the planets core.
The 3rd would have to be the thragg/nolan punches on viltrum. Fantastic episode

Ya but he fails to listen every time. And it's not like he's getting much stronger after each time. He doesn't listen when it comes to conquest (twice), he doesn't listen when it comes to the dragon, he doesn't listen when it comes to thragg. When's he gonna learn?

I like to think of it like a bullet
Bullets have kinetic energy and it's destructive power is noticeable (bullet hole entry and exits)
The laser just creates the hole (has no kinetic energy) while the trio is the bullet and creates that destructive energy
The laser saves them time by not needing to dig and it's "safer"
Edit: why is it that listnook likes to not reply to comments when I ask it to

Y BAAM, ADIOS CABEZA.
y no de un random, sino del mismísimo thaedus, el que acabo con argall y que apenas en el cap pasado se dio hasta con 3 viltrumitas al mismo tiempo y estaba GANANDO.

I am trying to gauge the power of the character, sometimes they can rip each other’s head off in one go but sometimes they can’t do that even after 100 punches…like are they really that fragile or sturdy? Which is which?

Thragg's guilt over sparing Thaedus mirrors Mark's over feeling bad when he thought he killed Angstrom and not ensuring he was dead

Now, I’ve only watched the episode once, and all of the things I’ve listed were noticed. I’m not a power-scaler or a comic reader, and I do give this show a lot of grace. However, I think people are giving this episode way too much credit.
- The animation in this episode was just jarring. My partner and I both noticed the animation error of one of the viltrumites disappearing into this air after an explosion, and many of the shots of characters flying off or just standing still were distracting. A lot of the combat moves are just repeated over and over, such as someone getting their jaw punched off (both Eve and Oliver now), getting fisted through the stomach (Nolan, Eve, Lucan, etc.?), or head chopped off in one go. Additionally, several of the punches and combat seemed as though they had no weight behind them, but I think this also a sound design issue (I do know that they’re in space, but that only excuses so much).
- I don’t understand Thragg’s backstory or reasoning at all. Mark explains that he is as powerful as he is because he was trained since he was a baby, but so were so many of the viltrumites we see in the show? It just doesn’t make sense to me how much of a difference there is in power between Thaddeus, Nolan, and Thragg. I would understand that he has a lack of mercy after his mistake with Thaddeus, but then he spares Mark and Nolan, when both of them contributed directly to the destruction of Viltrum? Why does he now all of a sudden care about how much blood is spilt when he one-tapped Oliver, and previously called for Viltrumites to kill one another after the death of Thragg?
- I am so lost on how the trio of Thaddeus, Nolan, and Mark destroyed Viltrum. The beam from Space Ranger is small enough that it doesn’t entirely tear through the torso of a viltrumite, but it is large enough that all three of them can follow behind it to go through the planet’s core? Am I missing something?
- I just don’t get how Tech Jacket has survived this long, or how Alan was able to get through the fight practically unscathed.
- How is it that there are so few viltrumites shown after they massacre one another to kill the betrayer, but billions die shortly after due to the virus? How do the aliens dragged in by Space Ranger not freeze immediately when they’re in space?
I just feel as though this episode didn’t explain a lot of questions that it introduced, and also had a lot of plot holes while having subpar animation for being the second-to-last episode of the season. I don’t expect this show to have exact reasoning for everything, as it’s an animated show about superheroes.

I loved this episode but the plot armour is a bit silly sadly. Everyone of the maincast either survived every wound ever or the bad guys just decide to not kill then 🥲

Nearly everyone is either strong enough to take on the regular Viltrumites or has a weapon that can do it, so I had no problem with the cast surviving outside of Mark and co, who absolutely should've died once Thragg had them at the end.
It was shocking to see Oliver get destroyed like that but it definitely makes it less impactful that he'll probably be totally fine next week. It'd be cool to have him keep the metal jaw and arm as a consequence of what happened but I'm expecting him to look like nothing happened.

Thragg believes in the idea of Viltrum. He knows that with so few Viltrumites left that their civilization will soon fall. When he saw Viltrum destroyed in the background he realized killing Mark would only make the Viltrumites problems worse.

Except they are already headed towards Earth because of revenge, but also because Nolan was able to produce Mark. If Earth can help them repopulate then why not kill him then

Loved it. But my big problem is the Viltrumite purge near the begining, in the flash back. Viltrumites killing each other in one hit? Instantly tearing off limbs? I'll give a pass to Thragg but not the others. Any pure blood Viltrumite is supposed to be difficult to kill. Nolan took ages to beat Mark within an inch of his life in S1.
I know the idea was to "purge the weakness" but they were just unbelievably weak against their own kind.

I mean, isn't that why those ones died/get dismembered? Despite how strong they were, they would sitll be "weak" by Viltrumite standards, and so they got insta'd. I assume the ones that survived were strong enough to not get insta'd

I'm digging it, but i wish we had a little more non viltrimite war stuff in this season. Feels like forever since we saw what robot and the gang are up to. And there is just one more episode left in the season and then we wait. This season is breezing by and I feel like I didn't get my fix. the viltrimite stuff is brutal and tense and all that, but it feels like we are missing some of the more light hearted stuff this show normally blends in. Need some more wins to balance out all the loss. Like how many times do we get to see mark and oliver get their asses utterly handed to them? I want at least a little win here. Mark effortlessly beating the lava b**** is cool and all, but the rest of the season has just been pounding after pounding. When does oliver get to kick some ass for a change? At this point he is just a liability, and that sucks.
All I know is I need more, and this season went by too fast.

Just a comment to clarify, that gang really isn’t around anymore, or at least at the moment. By the end of last season, most of the Guardians of the Globe we had been following were either dead or retired, Eve is sidelined, and Robot/Monster girl are in Flaxon dimension.

This is the natural story progression. Were toward the end of the season and this is mostly how it plays out in the comics. There is only so much time per episode to cover the main plot and take it into next season. I guarantee season 5 will have more time to take a breath and catch more of the B and C plots. This episode was packed full of great moments. I just know if it were me up there with Mark's, Nolan's, or Allen's strength I would be karate death chopping viltrumite arms off. Theyre not much without those arms lol. Problem is that most of those viltrumites are needed to progress the story into the next chapters. They could've lined them all up in a fight and just space racer'd them all at once, but plot armor and lack of tactics.

If it's sticking with what's upcoming from the comics, Season 5 will have the most secondary plots of any season, apart from Dinosaurus, all the arcs are pretty small for the next 20 or so issues.

>Like how many times do we get to see mark and oliver get their asses utterly handed to them? I want at least a little win here.
Mark beat Conquest for real this time, Omni and Oliver are developing a relationship, the coalition has pushed The Viltrumites out of most of the universe and successfully defended their stronghold planet, and Viltrum has been totally destroyed.
Their leader is dead, yes, but Mark and co. all made it out alive. I can understand the lack of the earth crew is a little annoying, but the show has been hurtling towards this war for 4 seasons now and it would've just been silly to not shift the focus to it entirely for at least part of the season. There're only so many weird earth villains to deal with or Viltrumites to come test Mark before the show loses steam.
Now the show is going back to earth, so of course we'll see everyone else again. But again, the stakes have to go higher or else the show is just spinning its wheels like the Boys did for 2 seasons + 2 spinoff seasons.

They should have deleted episode 4 and gave its animation budget to this episode. Because the drama was amazing, but you could see the animators fighting their budget in some scenes.

I assume that’s why so much of it took place in space, too. Saves having to animate environmental damage but makes the fights seems much more weightless outside of the decision blows and Thragg.

Did we need half the episode to be Viltrumites purging each other, *again*. They could just be smarter with what they choose to adapt.

The point is that Nolan's words got to him and reminded him, even if right on the line of it, that they are a people to save. It was Earth that 'weakened' the Viltrumites and just as Thragg believed that talking Nolan out of things on the ground of Viltrum might turn him back to the 'correct' ways, he believes that putting Earth its its humans out of the picture will put the group of Earth-Viltrumites back to the 'correct' ways. He doesn't want death (Conquest), he wants Order.
