At this point, a 'ceasefire' is really just the polite diplomatic term for a designated reloading period.

It usually is. This is the main reason Ukraine didn’t want to agree to ceasefires with Russia, because the time would have been spent saving up ammunition and repositioning resources to attack that much harder after.

The ceasefire was supposed to include opening the Strait. Iran violated it from day 1.

Irans understanding seems to have been that the ceasefire included Lebanon so from their perspective the ceasefire wasn't being followed by the usa and Israel either. Then the blockade which wasn't part of the ceasefire but obviously complicates things

I’m beginning to think there wasn’t actually a ceasefire after all

It's an arranged "open"-ceasefire

Technically speaking there isn't, as both sides are conducting a blockade and blockades are acts of war.

Didn't Iran attack both UAE oil facilities and now 5 US destroyers?

“It’s different when we do it!” \-everyone who has perpetrated a ceasefire violation in history

It did, albeit after the US launched another operation to break their blockade by escorting tankers out. Iran made it clear it won't allow that. Technically speaking there is no ceasefire anyway, as both sides are conducting a blockade and blockades are acts of war. Iran mostly adhered to this wierdass 'ceasefire' as long as the US didn't do anything different.

Iran is not conducting a blockade. Iran is carrying out a sea denial operation, to the degree that it is capable of doing. All Iran is doing is threatening to just simply sink any commercial vessel that transits the strait without Tehran's "permission". Iran can't actually sink these ships, all it can do is credibly threaten to strike them with drones. That isn't a blockade, in which commercial vessels are instructed to turn around and then compelled to do so by actual physical warships at sea if they do not comply. In such a situation, commercial vessels do not incur randomized damage from the blockader - e.g., the US. The US is actually helping non-Iranian commercial vessels transit the strait, which is the opposite of blockading the strait. The situation now is that the Iranians are threatening \*any\* vessel that transits the strait, including those related to the countries that rely on the strait for maritime commerce, but the Americans are really only blockading just Iran. Beyond that, the US escorting commercial vessels out of the strait is simply enforcing very agreed-upon maritime law, because the strait of Hormuz is not within Iran's authority to control, because the strait constitutes the maritime lifeblood of Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain and Qatar; it is these countries' only access to the sea. The US guiding commercial vessels through the strait actually safeguards the ability of those countries - who are not at war with Iran - to engage in maritime commerce.

Yes but obviously they were upset because the US crossed their straight a few times so it’s understandable that they’d bomb the UAE and a few tankers. Anyone would.

yurnxt1 5 days ago +4
It's not their straight to begin with.
4
lokken1234 5 days ago +2
Probably because its a strait.

No no no, USA and Israel bad, the ultra far right religious country are the good guys

Chusten 5 days ago -5
Thet also said the straight is closed and they would attack with assemetrical retaliation if US broke the agreement by sending ships through. "Project Freedom" could possibly be the largest military strategical flop in US history. The gulf states are suck of Trumps shit. Sieze-fires *always* have a caveat for not using it as an opportunity to take a more strategic position. Which the US did.

Actually the gulf states, with the obvious exception of Iran, have been driven closer to the US by this due to Iran lashing out and attacking them.

Trump called it a love tap and the ceasefire is still on. So basically the Iran war is gonna end up like the Lebanon ceasefire that wasn’t even signed between the people that are fighting which is Hezbollah

If this is what Trump considers a 'love tap', I now fear even more for what transpired with those poor girls on that island he's trying so hard to distract us from...

Rules for thee but not for me. Yeah, they claim that it is in their right to do that and to attack civilian ships from many countries and somehow expect other countries to not do the same to them.

I don't think I have to. I'm pretty sure you're paying high gas, high groceries, and high electricity already. Thank Donald Trump.

What kind of war is this? Ramp up the production and put some heat to the problem or bring the boys and girls back home. It’s looking like just another limited engagement. We gotta shit or get off the pot. The people of Iran don’t deserve a slow bleed. Rip the band aide off or leave it alone. Just picking at is counterproductive.
