If you mash it all together fast enough, it's either never open or always open all at the same time. But be aware of the sink mines, where we either do know where they are or we don't! Have fun playing the game.

They did claim to have opened the strait and then closed it almost immediately citing the ongoing US blockade. But to your point it was effectively never open even if we are to take the word of Iran at face value

Iran said on April 17: "The Strait is open".
open, close, open, close, open, close.

A single state official said that, they no longer have a central government. The IRGC is defacto in charge, and aren't negotiating with anyone.

State official who speaks on behalf Iran\*
Sure, the IRGC sure did get bid mad about that... But they're not the ones who speak on behalf of Iran's regime publicly, that's the foreign minister. Let's hope this clash of lanes is a sign of the regime infighting.

The far left refused to vote for Harris and now their favorite far right terrorist regime in Iran is being taken down and their favorite far right Palestinian terrorist groups are also being taken down. The far left keeps shooting itself in the foot by constantly demonizing the Democratic party and helping Republicans win. Progressives, socialists and communists are the biggest idiots in the world, always helping the far right win.

The Islamic Republic commits more war crimes. The rest of the world needs to cut off all trade with them and expel the Iranian ambassadors.

Damn. I wonder how all of this could have been avoided?
If only there were some kind of agreement or treaty to limit Iran's acquisition or development of nuclear arms..
1
Ultra_Metal5 days ago
This war is not just about the nuclear program, and the JCPOA did not prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. It just postponed their program by a few years (it had an expiration date). Even if Trump didn't leave the agreement, the agreement would have expired anyway. Regardless, the Islamic Republic was in violation of that agreement as well as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty when they decided to enrich uranium to 60%. Their enrichment to that level is incontrovertible proof of the Islamic Republic's violations of both the JCPOA and the NNPT. It's incontrovertible proof that the regime was building nuclear weapons, in violation of international law and treaties that they signed.
The other reasons for the war are the fact that the regime murdered tens of thousands of people in January, terrorized the region for decades and was building missiles to attack its neighbors.

I bet they were just, I dunno, *two weeks away* from a nuke, huh? Like they have been for the last 40+ years?

Trump had a short window of opportunity to wrap up this war by also lifting their blockade, he didn't do that so this outcome was expected.

So, I guess that 'EU led coalition' is gonna have to hang out for a bit longer. Since they only want to come into the Strait after it's open and stuff.

Europe wants to clean up when it's over, because in whatever way it ends, clean up will be needed.
It also does not want to get handed over a war by the US, since it was already handed over a energy crisis and (incoming) refugee crisis.
