Not to doompost but yeah, pretty much everyone against nuclear war has been removed from military leadership. And those who are in power now, like Hegseth, openly want a biblical revelations event after nuclear war.
114
canuck791 3 days ago +45
It's funny that there's "Christians" out there that think THEY can influence the return of Christ. If that's what you believe in. The Bible very clearly states that no one knows the date or hour. And thinking they can start the "end times" is actually hilarious and mega egotistical.

Trump is literally surrounded by people who think war with Iran will bring on the apocalypse and second coming of jesus christ. They \*want\* this. I wish it was just about making money or attaining political power - these are all religious nutjobs who want the apocalypse to happen because they think it will make their messiah show up. I wouldn't put anything past them at this point. Hesgeth and the rest are like poison.

Nuclear warheads on Iran would be catastrophic for every country in the vicinity, including those that got Trump to start bombing Iran
152
TheWizard 3 days ago +175
It will also be catastrophic to the USA, as the final nail to the coffin of its credibility with ANYONE.
175
kalirion 3 days ago +142
I think USA's credibility will be the least of problems in that scenario.
142
PIngp0NGMW 3 days ago +232
I think it would be a turning point moment for the entire world. If they do use nuclear weapons the entire world has to shun America for what it is, a horrible, horrible country. I'm talking expelling American diplomats, winding down relationships with America, etc. But it's a turning point also because if the world does *not* shun America and just carries on like business as usual, then it emboldens America and Russia like nothing else could. If the world doesn't stand up to the use of nuclear weapons in an undeclared war, against a country that does not pose an existential threat to the clear aggressor, then what does the rest of the world stand for?
232
TheWizard 3 days ago +61
Indeed. I feel ashamed at having this clown represent my country. Any action that resembles a catastrophe will be well beyond that shame.

This is wild. They are calling his bluff. We could see a TACO tuesday, where he chickens out, and simply lies about 'progress' in negotiations. Or we could see a huge amount of additional death and destruction. My bet is on him chickening out, and I hope he does. Some tweet like "Iran is SCARED and has tentatively agreed to our terms! We're working out a deal now, a BIG, TREMENDOUS deal for the WORLD!" Or whatever. It will be a lie, but he'll add on "So I'm holding off on bombs for another week!"

The real trouble is Trump is advised by a bunch of kooky white supremacist christian radicals with a hard on for the apocalypse and second coming of Christ.
2499
cartmancakes 3 days ago +593
This is what frightens me. I could absolutely see them pushing him to use a nuke to wipe out the leadership. Or even to wipe out a lot more, for the sake of trying to begin the apocalypse. Personally, I think he's just going to hit their power plants.
593

157
johnnybiggles 3 days ago +125
What he'll likely do (I hope) is use some sort of "bunker buster" out in the middle of nowhere, then claim victory through propaganda. The problem I see (on top of him being surrounded by "a bunch of kooky white supremacist christian radicals with a hard on for the apocalypse and second coming of Christ"), is that he's also a dementia-ridden 80 year old with not much life left, and has a burning desire to see a nuke used in his lifetime before he goes out (especially against brown people and a known decades-long adversary), knowing he has the *power* to make that happen *himself*. He's thinking "success" from ending a decades long feud, and that he'll be celebrated as such (immortality monument), but *not* thinking about why no one before him hasn't ever done it. He's a self-centered idiot.
125

91
Gingevere 3 days ago +290
He has dementia and has always had a fascination with using nukes. Even early in his first term he was looking for literally any excuse to use one. It's why he suggested nuking a hurricane. He really wants ANY excuse to hit that button and feel powerful. He's all for it. It'll be on what little chain of command exists between him and launching to prevent it. Or maybe Israel will take the opportunity to nuke Iran and point the finger at the US.
290
mister-fancypants- 3 days ago +99
I’m convinced he wants part of his legacy to be that he dropped a nuke and he doesn’t care *how* it’s remembered, although i think he thinks he and his cronies will be writing the “history” books on it

That last time the USA made a statement like this was to Japan before we dropped 2 atomic bombs. >"We call upon the government of Japan to proclaim now the unconditional surrender of all Japanese armed forces, and to provide proper and adequate assurances of their good faith in such action. The alternative for Japan is prompt and utter destruction." These statement were made on July 26, 1945 - [Potsdam Declaration ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potsdam_Declaration) Words matter when they're coming from the POTUS. It's either going to be really bad or he's going to be ripped apart for bluffing.

Yes, and it was immediately in my head as well, but I do not think that the Trump Administration knows their history well enough, and especially they do not have the decorum of our past.
921
UltimateKane99 3 days ago +516
Underestimating them is never a good thing. They know what history is most *useful* to them; a statement *directly reflecting the same terminology as used prior to the use of nuclear weapons* is right up their alley. If the US uses nuclear weapons against Iran, it's going to be a f****** shit storm.
516

Kharg Island is already being bombarded. Civilian infrastructure is being blown to pieces as we speak - Trump got his “No.” and commanded strikes early. This isn’t theoretical, it’s ongoing. Iran is already retaliating on Gulf State oil infrastructure. Oil production on both sides couldn’t recover for years already if they all decided to lay down their weapons now, which Iran will not do. And the markets love it for some reason.
102
Upstairs-Radish1816 3 days ago +18
Yeah that's one thing I can't figure out. I just looked at CNBC in the stock market is only down 85 points. You would think when a president says there's going to be a war in a few hours that could end the Iranian civilization they would be a little more worried than they are. Hell even the s&p 500 is up. Either the market knows something we don't like Trump is going to TACO out again there's someone knows they're going to be making money on this.

I've noticed a pattern with Trump; not being sarcastic here.  Go into a situation involving another party. Cause chaos. Offer the other party a way out of the chaos  (One that benefits Trump) Iran is the first major entity to simply say "no". So now it's bluster, threats, and more chaos.

I'm pretty sure everyone always just ignores the chaos. Canada, the EU, China, Iran. He threatens them all bigly, they just keep doing whatever, then he backs down and tells his followers that he won and they all cheer. If he gets anything out of it, it's literally always something that was already on the table anyway before he started threatening them (or that was even agreed to already under Biden). It never works except to impress his followers

There needs to be stricter guidelines for who can run and/or hold office. Real qualifications, a history of service, mandatory mental health evaluations, age restrictions etc. no stock, no commercial partnerships or deals while in office. Someone else posted this, wanted to share Mar 3: "We won the war." Mar 7: "We defeated Iran." Mar 9: "We must attack Iran." Mar 9: "The war is ending almost completely, and very beautifully." Mar 11: “You never like to say too early you won. We won. In the first hour it was over.” Mar 12: "We did win, but we haven't won completely yet." Mar 13: "We won the war." Mar 14: "Please help us." Mar 15: "If you don't help us, I will certainly remember it." Mar 16: "Actually, we don't need any help at all." Mar 16: "I was just testing to see who's listening to me." Mar 16: "If NATO doesn't help, they will suffer something very bad." Mar 17: "We neither need nor want NATO's help." Mar 17: "I don't need Congressional approval to withdraw from NATO." Mar 18: "Our allies must cooperate in reopening the Strait of Hormuz." Mar 19: "US allies need to get a grip - step up and help open the Strait of Hormuz." Mar 20: "NATO are cowards." Mar 21: "The Strait of Hormuz must be protected by the countries that use it. We don't use it, we don't need to open it." Mar 22: "This is the last time. I will give Iran 48 hours. Open the strait" Mar 22: "Iran is Dead" Mar 23: "We had very good and productive talks with Iran." Mar 24: "We’re making progress." Mar 25: “They gave us a present and the present arrived today. And it was a very big present worth a tremendous amount of money. I’m not going to tell you what that present is, but it was a very significant prize.” Mar 26: "Make a deal, or we’ll just keep blowing them away." Mar 27: "We don’t have to be there for NATO." Mar 28: No major quote Mar 29: Claimed talks were progressing Mar 30: "Open the Strait of Hormuz immediately, or face devastating consequences." Mar 31: Claimed a deal was "very close" and that Iran would "do the right thing" Apr 1: "We’ll see what happens very soon." Apr 2: Repeated that a deal was likely, while warning of continued strikes if not Apr 3: "Something big is going to happen." Apr 4: Said Iran must comply "immediately" or face further consequences. Apr 5: "Open the fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell - JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah." This is the leader of the USA lol.

Just the rhetoric...ending civilizations and wiping people off the face of the earth. Even in a movie it sounds a bit much. We need mental screenings for higher security jobs but this a****** just walks in.

Prediction: Trump will claim some military operation was successful and that the straight is now open without Iran doing or agreeing to anything. And then he’ll praise himself for saving the lives of thousands of people he was threatening killing.

Between hearing rumors of US military considering using nuclear weapons instead of ground invasion because it's been done before....and Trump saying "a war crime is having a nuke"....and with Trump's declining health and mega narcissist ego....and firing military leadership recently.....and with Hegseth and Christian Nationalists trying to make the End Times happen.... I got a real bad feeling about this.

Smart. I guess. By telling everyone in advance that there is no communication Trump won’t be able to say in the last minute that he talked to them and chose to extend the deadline. So I guess they’re calling his bluff.

We as the US can end this today. We just need congress to be brave for the day. If not then we need to brave until its done. The only out of this is through.

Call me crazy but I think that should be one of those jobs where your vacation should be interrupted if something unprecedent and of critical importance happens.

Dude for real. I get a phone call when my boss can’t figure out how to lock the f****** door on their way out if I’m not at work. We can sure as hell interrupt a round or two of the corporate donor blow bang tour that our representatives call vacation when nuclear annihilation starts looking like a coin toss.

Even a desperate, active congress can't stop this. We're at the "someone needs to physically restrain these people" stage, and congress isn't capable of that. All the people that can do that are the ones committing the crimes.

I am actually concerned. I used to think he was all bark no bite, but after Venezuela and initiating this war, it gives me pause. I interact with elderly people often and sometimes they show erratic and impulsive behavior due to mental decline, and I think that's what's happening here.

It's not like he's above blatant lies. He'll say that Iran only said that for the media while actually negotiating behind the scenes.

“A whole civilization will end tonight” I’m not a military strategist. But I don’t think this sends a message of “rise up” to the Iranian people. It sounds like a threat to all of their existence. What the f*** is he doing… you Yankees are okay with this?
