Even when he plays the village people and dances the wrong way to the YMCA, jacking off two guys instead of the traditional dance. He is literally mocking his base. He knows they're idiots and delights in insulting them publicly, and he never gets called out for it. He never grins the same way he does doing that dance.
Edit: Not even to mention his reciting "The Snake," which everyone except his base knows is him describing himself, and they hang on every syllable because that's all the attention span that they have.

The only way to secure ground is to have boots on the ground. you can bomb a place into a massive collection of craters, but if you don't have boots on the ground and a monopoly of violence you do not control the area.
Why would the US need or want to secure ground in Iran? you would have to control thousands of square miles of coastline and adjoing area to secure the water way. Basically you'd have to defeat Iran. There's no defeating iran though.

1
Angstrom_WitherMar 30, 2026

You're right: this war has less ideological basis, even fictionally. The idea of "monolithic communism" was cooked up by the intelligence community that also elected Hoover its king, but at least it was something to point at. This conflict, given to us by the last gasps of a foolish imperialism that's lasted almost a century by a power that can't afford it, has not even that.
I doubt I'm alone in it, but this feels to be the first war to entirely abandon reasoning beyond the narrow, self-interested style of politics and the fact that war is good business.
The current situation, which is escalating instantly beyond Iran, is the first war that no one can conjure a real reason for beyond ego and economics (which are the study of ego).
1
CherryLongjump1989Mar 30, 2026
+1
The Vietnam War started in 1954 but US troops did not enter combat until 1965. Irrespective of the ideological motives, the USA went to help their allies. These are very major differences from Iran.
The USA did not really lose the Vietnam War, in fact they accomplished most of their stated goals and then some. The Soviet, Chinese, and Indochinese communist forces suffered massive attritional losses -- they are the ones who ended up having major change of plans.
Hanoi's original plan to conquer Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand, but all of those plans fell through after they "won".
Beijing wanted to create a "Fifth Column" of millions of ethnic Chinese living in Thailand, Malaysia, and Vietnam to gain influence over the region but that backfired massively and made every Southeast Asian government paranoid of them.
The Soviets wanted to turn Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam into satellite states (like Poland or East Germany). This would give them a large land mass to park nuclear-capable bombers, thousands of Soviet troops, and warm water naval bases right on China's border. Instead, the Soviets inherited wrecked economies that they couldn't afford to subsidize or operate in.
Ironically, the war had turned China into the USA's junior partner. By the end of the war, China and the USSR were on the verge of nuclear war, and China was about to get crushed. The US signaling to Moscow that a nuclear attack on China being unacceptable was actually a big moment that flipped China to side with the USA. So instead, the US and China worked together to bleed Vietnam dry and turn it into a financial sinkhole for the USSR. Vietnam became a pariah state with an embargo led by the USA, whereas American troops stationed in the Philippines and Chinese troops stationed on Vietnam's northern border prevented the Soviet military from feeling free to operate out of there.
China started referring to the USA as a "strategic partner" and cut off the communist movements in Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines as well as promised to keep Soviet expansion into Southeast Asia in check in exchange for recognition by the US and technological exchange. It also forced China to comply with US maritime and financial systems. This was the whole reason China and the USA became massive trading partners.
Lastly, the US bought *ten years* for Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia to develop their economies. By the time the Vietnam War was over, these countries were too wealthy to be toppled by the communist empires.
All of these things were massive strategic wins for the USA.

Reminder that in a defensive war, many of the Geneva Convention's restrictions generally only apply to the *attacking* army. That includes the use of chemical and incendiary weapons. Its also why its generally considered acceptable to use nuclear weapons to defend yourself.
In other words: it would literally not be considered (legally) a war crime if Iran used chemical or incendiary weapons to beat back an invading army that attacked them in a war of aggression, as long as they were being used within and in the defense of their own country.
No saying its a *good* thing, just pointing this out. Countries generally have broad latitude to use whatever they have to defend their own sovereign territory, as long as otherwise banned weapons are only used within that territory.

Be it an invasion of one of the coastal islands, where Iran will just saturate with missiles and artillery, or an invasion of the mainland which would be even worse. Yet we have MAGA on social media saying "I voted for this" despite the fact that Trump campaigned on "No New Wars". Like wtf - this is the greatest evidence of MAGA not being able to think for themselves.

People don’t want to admit America has really only fought 1 “good” war, and even then we had to be dragged kicking and screaming into it.

It’s shocking to think about. The previous news cycle was about Iran’s government murdering 10,000s civilians for protesting. Trump’s administration came out the gates by murdering a school full of children and lying about it losing any good will they could have had.
The enemy of my enemy is not my friend here and I don’t see how this can be de-escalated with the current leadership on both sides.

And likely many others who will not admit it out loud. For every loud, aggressive warmonger, there's five people quietly wondering "I wouldn't want to be invaded, so why should we invade someone else?"

They’ll also probably just be dropping those little sneaky f****** grenades on the heads of US soldiers with those drones. Have people in the military not seen the thousands upon thousands of those videos from Ukraine where drones just hover for a while, wait for the guy to be chillin, and then perfect place a grenade drop on them? That shit is going to happen so much.

This stupid president is going to get so many people killed and it will be all their fault. You really cannot fault Iran for retaliating in this. The United States is the clear aggressor, and despite all their despicable traits, Iran has been the more trustworthy party in this conflict to get announcements from.

No, they aren’t! They are regular people like you and me who are having their regular lives turned completely upside down by an unprovoked American attack! They will fight incredibly bravely, just like every other people on earth fight when their entire way of life is suddenly threatened militarily, but there’s no reason to other-ize them. There are Iranians just like you who have seen their loved ones killed and their homes destroyed and they are terrified right now.

The average USAmerican cannot sympathize with brown foreign people unless they compare them to a completely unrelated set of mythologized white people; in the same way that the average USAmerican cannot criticize their own country without comparing it to a foreign country filled with "wicked" brown people.

When Iraq invaded in the early 1980s the Iranians were so desperate they sent human wave attacks to stop them and Iranian men died by the thousand.
The civilians back home responded by dyeing fountains red in support of the blood that they were spilling to stop the Iraqis.
Now they have 2 decades of perfecting suicide attacks in Iraq and Afghanistan.
This is not going to end well.

What does this article have to do with the price of gas? It’s obvious who is responsible for the price of gas - Trump.
But, this article is about Iranian claims of capabilities that they clearly don’t have. And, it’s grandstanding by them to even dream that they’d be able to withstand a U.S. invasion.

Well Hegseth did say he’d offer the Iranians “no quarter” - so I’m not surprised this is their response. Having him shoot his mouth off by saying something he thinks sounds cool could backfire spectacularly on U.S. ground troops (if they follow through).

US Government
- Install authoritarian
- Authoritarian gets deposed
- Overthrow democratically elected government, and reinstall authoritarian
- Authoritarian gets deposed again
- Sanction new government for decades while funding their biggest geopolitical rival
- Make it clear the only way to guarantee national sovereignty is to have nukes
- Country starts developing nukes
- Make nuclear deal to stop them from getting nukes
- Rip up nuclear deal
- Bomb country
- Renegotiate same nuclear deal from before
- Assassinate head of state, bomb country again in the middle of negotiations
Also the US Government:
- "Why does Iran want nukes so bad?"
