They're waiting for a few more weeks of $4-5 gasoline and mountain dissatisfaction in the USA to negotiate something that benefits them. At this point the USA and Israel can continue to bomb all they want.
When the USA invades Kharg island then those depending on its oil (India and China) will likely get upset AF and then more Bad Things (tm) will occur.

I worry they will go scorched earth and level Kharg island if we do take it. Hundreds of American soldiers dead, and then Trump has more justification to push further. There’s also a civilian element on Kharg island - if they’re still there, are they going to just let Americans take over?
Iran is in a fight for their life, they won’t quit (nor should they) until they have guaranties they won’t be attacked again in a few months when we’ve replenished our/Israel’s stockpiles.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the reasons he started the war. He knows there's only so much time left for him to have the nuclear football, and he REALLY wants to use it, just to see what happens (and say he did, since no other President since WW2 has).

No, no president ever has, not really. FDR approved atomic bombs. Those are tiny little tickles compared to the hydrogen bombs we have now.
If Trump tries, I really hope that there is a general or operator in the mix willing to be court-martialed or even tried for treason in order to stop it...Trump is altogether too stupid to understand the magnitude and just wants to look cool.

It can only be determined to be an illegal order after-the-fact. If you disobey, you will most likely be arrested and tried. It's during that process where it will be determined if it was an illegal order or not.
