For only as long as the Lebanon ceasefire holds.

Will Trump remove the blockade now? Markets are already shooting up like the crisis is over
842
ForsakenRacism Apr 17, 2026 +410
The blockade is only for ships going to and from Iran
410
rhino369 Apr 17, 2026 +166
But it’s not part of the ceasefire. The US should end it as soon as tankers actually start rolling through unmolested.
166
StrategicCarry Apr 17, 2026 +97
But then how would Trump cause Iran to close the strait again right before the markets close after there's a bunch of suspicious activity on oil futures?
97
big-papito Apr 17, 2026 +250
But Donald loves molesting things.

Most of these tankers are over 13.

There probably is a bilge water tape somewhere out there
2
SienarFleetSystems Apr 17, 2026 +2
I never understood that line. Like, HE moved on them like they were a b****, or he moved on THEM like they were a b****? And how does one move on someone or be moved upon "like a b****"? Please mime it for me. I expect no clarity from trump given the pronouns...

Interesting_Pen_167 Apr 17, 2026 +2
The 'This week in shipping' guy on youtube said that the Saudi port on the coast there is one of the most critical ports in the world for refueling, I think this is still going to be a major problem if that's the case.
2
Sped_monk Apr 17, 2026 +29
It’s Friday, expect an announcement from Trump right at EOD so him and his boys can cash in on the market rally
29

Probably just pumping the dark traders over the weekend, to cash them out with next weeks dump on retail
11

9

Im sure he will wait a longer then sell sell sell then create another blockade for stocks to drop so he can buy more and keep the cycle going.
7
EconomyDoctor3287 Apr 17, 2026 +3
Trump stated that the blockade on iranian ports is not part of this and will still be inplace, so this is likely a fragile state
3
GeshtiannaSG Apr 17, 2026 +4
The most recent announcement said no, it’s still in place.
4
--Chug-- Apr 17, 2026 +2
The markets judge him on a curve and it makes me sick. Gas prices went down after the first "fake" cease fire announcement and didn't sharply correct when it was found out that it wasn't being abided by on both sides. It's complete BS.
2
GiantsRTheBest2 Apr 17, 2026 +2
The markets are operating in a post-scandal world. There’s no world event or news coverage that will negatively affect the market at this point.
2
wolf_at_the_door1 Apr 17, 2026 +2
Just because markets want conflicts to be over doesn’t mean they are.

So the world’s energy market and all downstream effects are hinging upon Israel keeping their word And Israel ruled by someone who has a vested personal interest in the ongoing conflict to avoid a trial.
289

Not just in Lebanon. Somalia has started threatening action in Bab al-Mandeb for Somaliland business.
47
MegaLemonCola Apr 17, 2026 +65
Israel withdrawing from Lebanon is also contingent on Lebanon keeping their word to disarm Hezbollah. So I’m not holding my breath.
65
arathorn3 Apr 17, 2026 +53
Something the Lebanese.government has continually failed tp do for 20 years. the disarmament of Hezbollah south of the Litani was.part of the 2006 ceasefire a Ceasefire.that.was agreed.on April 14, 2006.(liberally 20 years ago)

You aren't wrong but I think israel burned its bridge with trump. he was willing to go murder iran with them because he gives zero fucks about iran or human beings in general. BUT israel committed a cardinal sin. they made trump look bad. he's not going to let them f*** this up more.

Trump doesn't care aboit looking bad, either. But they made him look WEAK, the LOSER that he is, almost mocked him even. Obama did that once at a presidential dinner a loooong time ago. And look how he's still living rent free in dudes head
51
slugmorgue Apr 17, 2026 +10
I'm not even sure if he cares about that anymore either, all he seems concerned about is whether the news is talking about him or not
10
Jeremizzle Apr 17, 2026 +8
It’s both. He’s a gigantic narcissist so he loves being talked about, but if you insult him he will have a vendetta against you forever, because again, giant narcissist, and you made him feel like he might not be perfect so he has to fix that by destroying you.
8
angelbelle Apr 17, 2026 +6
I don't think there's enough talk about how much Israel dared to overstep their station during Trump's administration. It's one thing to criticize to the media but Bibi would never dare to act out without Obama/Biden's endorsement and approval for when it matters.
6
porktorque44 Apr 17, 2026 +8
Trump is a consummate b**** and is too stupid to understand how to apply political pressure or enforce boundaries. If something stops Israel from attacking it won’t be Trump laying down the law.
8

"Enough is enough": Trump says to Israel US President Donald Trump said Israel will be prohibited from bombing Lebanon. "They are prohibited from doing so by the USA. Enough is enough!!!" he said, adding that America will "deal with the Hezbollah situation in an appropriate manner".

We'll find out whether Trump has sway over Netanyahu at all. If so, he may be able to restrain Netanyahu from killing Lebanese to keep the markets happy (DOW heading back towards 50k, crude is below $80 at this moment.) If not...

So the mines are magically gone? I can't read the article because paywall EDIT: I found the actual quote: "In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through \[the\] Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran." -Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi [https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cqxdg17yr2wt](https://www.bbc.com/news/live/cqxdg17yr2wt)
766
Decent-Photograph391 Apr 17, 2026 +668
There’s always a route near the Iranian coast that’s mine-free. Now the tankers just won’t be shot at as they traverse. Supposedly.

BUT if you go off-coarse and go through the mine field, you could win 5 MILLION DOLLARS ON TOP OF THE TESLA
45

*explodes* Well, I guess he won the Tesla experience anyway!
13
CouldBeLessDepressed Apr 17, 2026 +5
And in classic Mr. Beast fashion, he'll have laid a surprise minefield of his own half way thru that the ships have to navigate, and none of them are, of course, told this before they start.
5
slvrbullet87 Apr 17, 2026 +7
If they had been stuck there for two months, they are probably trying to get through first. No clue how long this will last and they don't want to miss their chance.

35
probablyNotARSNBot Apr 17, 2026 +10
If they put mines, they also would need to clear them before using the strait again. Ultimately the strait being closed still hurts Iran the most, otherwise mines would have been a no brainer. C****, and a nightmare to deal with (as seen in Ukraine)
10
showars Apr 17, 2026 +24
So you haven’t read the article then. There has always been an unmined area at the coast of Iran. They will not be firing at ships using it.
24
RepulsiveContract475 Apr 17, 2026 +13
>If they put mines, they also would need to clear them before using the strait again. My understanding is that modern navel mines can be armed and disarmed remotely, they don't have to be physically removed. Also there are obviously safe routes through the Straight, ships have been transiting it since the war started, just in fewer numbers that during peacetime.
13
marr Apr 17, 2026 +7
That sounds not 100% reliable and also super vulnerable to cyber war.
7
Intro-Nimbus Apr 17, 2026 +18
I don't think we have any confirmation of the strait actually mined, I expect that to be a last resort. The threat to close it with mines is stronger than actually mining it.
18
CitizenCue Apr 17, 2026 +3
Some experts have questioned whether the mines ever actually existed. It turns out that just saying you mined an area is almost as effective as actually mining it. The risk for shippers and insurance companies is too high.
3
RedIndianRobin Apr 17, 2026 +32
There were never any mines.

4
cdazzo1 Apr 17, 2026 +2
The mines seem to have been a red herring. A number of ships have transited through the Strait since this began. I personally doubt there were any mines to begin with.

Crude future* which is speculative. The actual price paid for oil is the spot price which at least a week or so ago was around $140 a barrel. And the IEA has been saying that it’s going to take months if not a couple of years to get crude oil production back to where it was before the war.
101
Munstered Apr 17, 2026 +18

13
MaxPlanck_420 Apr 17, 2026 +7
That will happen any time there is major constraints on supply. Customers rarely buy bulk oil at same day pricing outside the future market. The best similarity is airline tickets. It's almost always cheaper to buy them a few months in advance. What is happening to the markets now is similar to airline tickets around a major holiday. It becomes ludicrous prices to buy same day airline tickets around Christmas. You wouldn't say that airline prices are broken due to that.

MoreWaqar- Apr 17, 2026 +37
It takes 60 days for oil to deliver. And there's now a massive shortage worldwide. It'll take months for oil to fully regularize. This is not some evil monopoly hat man strategy.
37
TheOtherPete Apr 17, 2026 +21
When global oil prices rise, all gas stations immediately raise their prices, they don't wait 60 days for the increases to work their way through the system - funny how that works
21
MoreWaqar- Apr 17, 2026 +28
It's almost like they need to buy their restocking oil right away, and account for the risk in the market. Explain to me how you would handle 10+M barrels going offline suddenly with no end in sight? Oil is an extremely competitive market.
28
Lerdroth Apr 17, 2026 +3
Depends how far in advance you order, I used to order full tankers of fuel for our Transport Company and the price difference between forecourt and refinery could be 25-30%. You could prepurchase X amount over whatever time frame you utilise it but you'd be betting on the fuel going up or down and losing or gaining based on it. Supermarkets generally hold prices well because they have contracts for vast amounts per year and buy very little at last minute. Smaller Gas Stations fly up and down depending on what's happening as they buy on the spot. Hilarious seeing the Supermarkets have 50p cheaper Fuel than a direct load from a Refinery early in the Ukrainian War, you can't fill up Trucks in those places though so get fucked basically.

Waterwoogem Apr 17, 2026 +7
Didn't the Capacity in Qatar get heavily degraded sometime shortly before Trump wrote those two insane posts?
7
SomethingFunnyObv Apr 17, 2026 +4
That’s my understanding. If exports were halted then production had to stop/slow down and from what I read, when pumps are stopped they lose pressure and don’t pump as well once production resumes. Oil prices should drop if the strait is open but damage has already been done.
4
asmiggs Apr 17, 2026 +3
Qatar's main damage was to its LNG facilities not oil but other countries had their oil facilities attacked and one refinery was hit in Qatar.
3
locke_5 Apr 17, 2026 +16
I used to work at a major US gas company. Typically around April we would transition from “winter fuel” (cheaper due to additives but worse for environment) to “summer fuel” (more expensive but cleaner). I believe we’re still using “winter fuel”, so there will likely be another price bump within the next month or so.
16
Bradley271 Apr 17, 2026 +10
We had a period of nearly a month where no oil tankers were entering or leaving the strait. The last tankers to leave are just arriving now. You haven’t actually even seen the worst of the prices, wait for a week or so when we start seeing actual supply limits.

Ah. So.. it'll be closed by Sunday? So that on Monday the markets can crash. And just before Trump tweets about it there a billions worth of bets placed to markets. It's amazing how these modern conflicts only seem to progress outside of market/office hours.

trump is the guy that starts the fire and thinks he should get a reward for showing up with a bucket. Invoke the 25th!

They’d probably just bought loads of shares.

Dothemath2 Apr 17, 2026 +6
Trump and his cronies are closing their calls and buying their puts. Reversal on Monday or TACO Tuesday.

Lump001 Apr 17, 2026 +6
State TV already contradicted this, saying any passage is with the permission of IRGC.

Hideandseek86 Apr 17, 2026 +19
Lets see when the ships get moving. At the moment there is not really alot of movement before the straight on either side. You would think there are alot of ships start sailing immediatly that waited the Last weeks. One cruise ship will cross the next few hours.

BOPSurfcasting1 Apr 17, 2026 +5
Iran knows tankers won't come through the strait over the next 9 days of the Israel - Lebanon ceasefire, it's still too risky, if the ceasefire breaks while tankers are passing through the strait, the last thing tanker crews will hear is the sound of incoming drones.

mjagiel Apr 17, 2026 +7
So are we back to where we started except with countless deaths and injuries and billions of dollars wasted?
7
ThatBeingCed Apr 17, 2026 +110
Until the USA do something stupid again.

Anaud-E-Moose Apr 17, 2026 +90
>In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, See y'all when the ceasefire expires on April 22, next Wednesday.

ThatBeingCed Apr 17, 2026 +59
I'm not ready to bet that it'll last until the 22nd. Israel is... they like to kill people.

14
bleepbleepboot Apr 17, 2026 +3
But what about the mines that were placed in the ocean? who removes them?

4
VeryVideoGame Apr 17, 2026 +7
I just found myself thinking "since the info came from Iran and not Trump, I see it as reliable"

This is so confusing.

BOPSurfcasting1 Apr 17, 2026 +9
Sometimes open can mean closed, and sometimes closed can mean open, and sometimes it can mean the strait is open and closed at the same time, and occasionally it can also mean the strait is not open or closed. Got it?

luscious_lobster Apr 17, 2026 +3
Can’t trust Iran nor the US to tell the truth

No. It's because Israel finally accepted to extend the ceasefire to Lebanon too.
138
dbandit1 Apr 17, 2026 +37
or the terms of the ceasefire were finally met

Str8UpJorking Apr 17, 2026 +54
Nope. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/4/17/iran-war-live-ceasefire-starts-in-lebanon-as-trump-says-tehran-deal-close >Iran’s Foreign Minister says **“in line with the ceasefire in Lebanon**, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open **for the remaining period of ceasefire”** Don’t give Trump 4D chess credit.

daanluc Apr 17, 2026 +63
It’s what they say but the blockade definitely affects them massively. They always denied they would open the Strait for a ceasefire.
63
AwesomeWhiteDude Apr 17, 2026 +5
Tbf the initial agreement/confusion was that Iran would open the strait while keeping the toll booth. Now there is no Iranian toll booth, hence "completely open"

knil22 Apr 17, 2026 +5
I give it a week tops before Trump ruins it somehow.
5
Suguha_chan Apr 17, 2026 +11
Did Iran say that or did Trump say that Iran said that
11
neon_meate Apr 17, 2026 +19
Iran did, it's until the 22nd (Wednesday) or until someone in Israel remembers Bibi should be in jail and he has to start the whole thing over again.
19
Prudent_Link6029 Apr 17, 2026 +14
Until Netanyahu wakes up from his nap
14
anxiousalpaca Apr 17, 2026 +11
with $2M fees or without?
11
Ultra_Metal Apr 17, 2026 +11
No, because that would violate international law. The whole point of the blockade is to prevent Iran from charging a toll.
11
seclifered Apr 17, 2026 +3
Getting Israel to stop was all it took. Let’s see how long bibi allows the ceasefire to hold. It’s not in their interest for peace to reign
3
IntelArtiGen Apr 17, 2026 +6
Hopefully it means the war is over.
6
theHoundLivessss Apr 17, 2026 +11
Axios is reporting they have a leak that Trump offered 20 billion for Iran's uranium. That I immediately believed this despite it being a literal rumour unconfirmed by anyone speaks to how laughable America has been in this entire process.
11
AdHom Apr 17, 2026 +10
Wasn't Trump criticizing the original treaty from the Obama admin because he said we paid them like a billion dollars to not enrich?
10
Fargonics Apr 17, 2026 +2
I’ll believe it when the gas station says the same thing.

Iran is saying the straight will stay closed if the US blockade doesnt move
2
Random_182f2565 Apr 17, 2026 +2
Even for ships from the USA and Israel?
2
sdasu Apr 17, 2026 +2
That’s one incredible laxative.

MLCarter1976 Apr 17, 2026 +2
I wonder if the boats will all go full throttle and get the heck out of there n. Maybe difficult for those coming up behind them or needing more stuff tomorrow, next week etc.

Literally one of the dumbest conflicts of the 21st century No goals have been accomplished, billions where spent, thousands died just so everything can go back to how it was more or less a few months ago, Nothing substantial has changed, nothing major has been accomplished there is no deal, Its great that this might now end, But the fact it existed at all is a farce and the fact the people who started it have now ended it, does not mean it should be celebrated.
6
OldManCodeMonkey Apr 17, 2026 +11
A great many insider trades and prediction market cash ins were accomplished. The people responsible for this shit show have been making out like bandits.
11
Jeffgoldbum Apr 17, 2026 +5
those are crimes not accomplishments, that is what im talking about. None of this made anything better.
