Everyone is acting to see how the other party reacts, it's what happens when there is a break down in relations. Basic diplomacy could have avoided it all.

The Iranian's opened the Strait in a show of good faith after the cease-fire was agreed in Lebanon. But instead of responding by lifting the blockade, Trump has decided to keep it in place, because he just loves leverage. And as blockades are universally recognised as being acts of war, keeping it in place violates the cease-fire, so Iran will close the Strait and prepare for a resumption of hostilities.
I've lost the thread. It's open, but not to U.S. ships, but we've got it blockaded...
Can someone summarize where we're at this millisecond?

If the Trump admin is competent enough, they should allow 1 Iranian ship for every 20 non-Iranian ships passing the straits. It is totally normal since Iranian oil export is around 5% of total transit pre war.
It gives enough incentives for both sides to gradually open the straits, but still give US enough leverage for negotiation.

How about lift the blockade when the internet is opened up again for the people of Iran.
5
Dry_Werewolf_15971 day ago
+10
I agree lift the blockade when Iran opens up the internet. BUT, let’s be consistent. Saudi Arabia blocks human rights websites, jails people for tweets, and until 2018 wouldn’t let women drive. The UAE blocks political speech entirely. Pakistan just installed Chinese Great Firewall technology to crush dissent. India shut down the internet 10 times in the first half of 2025 alone.
All of these are U.S. allies. Some host U.S. military bases. Saudi Arabia gets weapons deals.
So internet freedom and human rights are the bar for Iran, why isn’t Riyadh sanctioned? Why are we selling F-15s to a country where women still need a male guardian’s permission for basic life decisions?
So let’s apply the standard equally. Impose sanctions, blockade and cut off aid until those countries meet the open up their internet for the free flow on information.
