>The shaky ceasefire in the Iran war was tested again on Sunday when a drone set a small fire on a ship off the coast of Qatar, while the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait reported separate drones entering their airspaces. >The UAE blamed Iran for the latest attack, the latest threat to a month-old ceasefire, which the Trump administration says remains in effect. >There were no casualties reported, and no one immediately claimed responsibility.

The ceasefire is strong enough to withstand pesky warfare. Some say it's the strongest ceasefire ever.

It’s the best of ceasefires. The experts of ceasefires, you know what they told me? They said they’d never seen a ceasefire like it. They said to me ”Wow this ceasefire is truly unbreakable! How did you ever manage to do it?”. They said that in the history of ceasefires, there’s never been one like it. Can you imagine that? So anyway I gave them each a copy of the Bible with my face surrounded by bald eagles on the cover in celebration. It almost brought them to tears.

How is this a month old ceasefire? Has either side stopped shooting for anything more than about 12 hours?

It's bullshit being manufactured by the government and supported by the media, for whatever reason.

The reason is to skirt checks and balances and build autocracy. The balance of powers was meant to be that Congress orders military action, the president executes that military action. Over time presidents abused this system to start wars without authorization, usually just refusing to call it a war. Then the *War Powers Act* was put in. The president has to tell congress they started military action, and has 60 days before congress gives them approval. If they don't get it, then they have 30 more days to pull out. A lot of presidents managed to get their way using this, but had to be clever. They managed to build a convincing enough case during that window to get their approval. This war is so unnecessary and horribly mismanaged that they don't think they'll get that extension. So what they're trying to do is just the same "we're not at war" bullshit. The old rules said congress gets to declare war. So the president just started a fight and refused to call it war. The new excuse is that they have a ceasefire, which they are trying to claim means their 60 days aren't up yet, it's "paused". The second part of it is to abuse the caveat added to the war powers act. The caveat is that the president doesn't need authorization if the United States or it's military is attacked. Other presidents have also tried to abuse this by playing chicken to give themselves this excuse. TL;DR the president hopes to claim his 60 days aren't up because of the ceasefire. And if they doesn't work, they'll use the most recent Iranian strike to claim they were attacked while at peace, which gives him the right to attack Iran.

There is no ceasefire, like sorry i didn’t invent the English language but when you are actively shooting at each other that is not a ceasefire. Its not even a pause in hostilities, its just a war continuing while one side struggles to define its own war goals because it doesn’t know what its doing.

I think it helps to put things in perspective. In the first month of this conflict the US and Israeli's had launched over 10,000 strikes on Iran and Hezbollah. in the proceeding month since the start of the ceasefire I don't think it has broken double digits from either side? If not a ceasefire, this has been a clear de-escalatory period, with neither side attempting to up the ante from each others provocations. And de-escalatory period sounds dumb.

De-escalatory period sounds dumb, but if this is a ceasefire, what do we call a real ceasefire?

It's funny in a morbid way. A lot of wars indeed end with a prolonged ceasefire long before a formal treaty is signed.

F****** clown hopes that all these "ceasefires" will allow him to keep ignoring the need for congress approval. "We were not in a war, it was an extended ceasefire following the military operations."

No matter what happens in this conflict, it seems Iran is always getting the last "laugh" (yes, I'm aware that people died which is probably not very funny for anyone involved). Now the orange doofus maneuvered himself into a position where he has to pretend a ceasefire is in place so he can further bypass Congressional involvement in the war. And Iran can now just shoot at anything willy nilly, and claim *"Yes, we respect the ceasefire, absolutely!"* What a gong show of an administration...
